  1. Nice PC man. Maybe you should wait until the new DO stepping comes out for the core i7's. Case is sweet, mobo is sweet (but I like the gigabyte boards better ATM), and I have that hard drive which is a very good general use drive.
  2. Updating the graphics card bios would not make it much, if any faster. On your pc some games that would work OK would be half-life 1, age of empires 1 and 2, unreal tournament 1, maybe that awsome new game "world of goo", tactical ops, warcraft 3, age of mythology, starcraft, and quake 3. These are the games I had on my old computer which had a geforce 4 mx 440 and 933mhz P3 cpu.
  3. What directx 8.1 graphics looks good does it? Well I guess you have never played crysis warhead B) You do not need a credit card for ebay. Using paypal, you can have it taken from your account. Or send a money order. Or just dont play that game if it runs so slow.
  4. No it is running a directx 9.0c game in directx 8.1 mode. So it is not actually running the game as it was meant to look. Just cuts out any advanced dx9 features and makes it look basic.
  5. To quote, just press quote on the bottom of their post. Yes but its a 32mb graphics card empire at war needs, not 64mb. So you could probably run it on a geforce 2 mx400 but starwars battlefront I would recommend playing on at least a geforce 4 mx 460 preferably a geforce 4 TI 4200 or better.
  6. So if my computer does not support a socket 775 cpu does that mean it will still fit one? Nope. Your card will still work, but not as fast as a dx 9 card and will not look as good as it cannot process dx9 graphics very well, if at all. ALL DX9c games? This one doesn't obviously. Yeah some games have higher system requirements than others but run better. It is whatever they want you to believe is the min or rec. Try looking at the guide I linked in my other post. You may be able to get it to run faster if you follow that guide. Far Cry 1 actually has lower system requirements than your star wars game. Same ram and cpu but the graphics card min is a directx 9.0B card not 9.0C. And far cry works well on lower end systems as it has a large range of hardware it can run ok on. If you crank the graphics it needs a half good system but on low-mid any mid range PC built in the last 8 years can run it ok.
  7. Hey I have one of those exact PC's with that same BIOS. Try testing your graphics card and monitor on separate computers or are you using the integrated graphics?
  8. Your ram is fine since you are running Win ME I assume. Your graphics card is pretty slow though for this game. The MX 440 SE is one of the slowest 64mb graphics cards out there. And it doesn't support directx 9.0c which is what this game needs to run optimally. So to play it on your system I would defrag the hard drive, uninstall un-needed programs and junk, disable background programs while playing the game, update to the latest version of the game (1.2 or 1.3 I think) turn everything on lowest detail and play at under 800x600 res, and have a look here to find out which settings to change for best performance: http://www.tweakguides.com/SWB_1.html Just remember that even if your CPU was 1Ghz it still would not run perfect as it does recommend 2Ghz P4 which is a lot faster than your CPU. It is best to say that if your PC does not meet recommended requirements (yours doesnt even meet minimum in all areas) then it will either run slow or look no where near as good as it looks on the box. Edit: Oh yeah and your graphics card is the PCI version which is not as quick as AGP. So your graphics card is way too slow for this game at medium-high settings.
  9. Hey guys, I finally got my replacement drive from seagate. It says SD1A on the drive itself. So I hope the new firmware works out ok.
  10. Hey could I get my logon name and user name from "RiderZen" to "Zenskas" Thanks!
  11. Yeah the E7300 is a good CPU. But my 9600GT owns your 9500GT Just kidding. I was gonna get the 9500 till I found a 9600 for $30 more.
  12. 1152×864 Looks like a resolution of some sort
  13. thank you SO much! Thats ok mate! I go to that website whenever I have trouble gaming on my 19inch widescreen monitor. There are heaps of fixes for games that don't normally have widescreen support. If you can't get a game to run widescreen, the other option is to run it in a window at 1024x768, 1152×864 or a res that isn't widescreen.
  14. Is that an in-game screenshot or just a cut-scene? Try playing at 1680x1050 or does it still look the same? I don't know if GTA3 supports widescreen. Read this: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/..._Theft_Auto_III and http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum...opic.php?t=2210 Then follow the instructions to enable widescreen support for GTA3. Hope that helps you.
  15. So here is what is happening with me an nlite: I am creating a custom CD using the latest nlite version for the PC in my sig. I start with a clean windows XP pro SP2 disc. I copy it to the PC I am creating the install on. I slipstream SP3. I add in IE 7. Then I start to remove a heap of junk. First all of the languages and keyboards I don't need. Then the applications. Then a heap of hardware drivers I will never need. And of course a bunch of other junk. I get the install down to 280MB. I do not go into the other sections of nlite such as tweaks and options etc. Then I will burn the disc via directburn at 16x speed. Then I will put the disc in the comp in my sig. It will boot from the CD and load some drivers. Then I will format my HDD. Then it starts to copy the files. Now I made another CD before however I had a bunch of unattended/options/tweaks in the CD. It did not get past 3 percent of copying files. I didn't use that disc and made another one just cutting the junk out as shown above. So the new disc without all of the other options gets past copying files then starts installing windows. It reboots once and asks for some info and configures the drivers and network etc. Then it reboots again and the win xp logo and blue bar come up for a second then go away and I see a glimpse of a blue screen with writing and numbers all over it. It restarts really fast and keeps on doing this in a loop. Now I am angry cause I made a CD for a friend with heaps of tweaks and stuff cut out down to about 330MB and his PC is very similar to mine (same ram, mobo is almost the same, cpu is almost the same) and his CD works like a charm. So, what am I doing wrong? What am I removing that is so important. I got rid of the manual install and upgrade thing since I am booting from CD. I am unsure what I am removing that is causing the error. I have attached my last sessions things from nlite. I removed components in two steps. Not all in the one session. Any help would be great. 16. It starts softening at 48C. That does not mean it cannot handle a CPU that runs over 48C. It just means it gets into the tiny little cracks in the heatsink when the temperature gets to 48C. That is a good thing because then it should transfer heat even better. I however recommend thermal grease. I use arctic silver 5 on my 9600gt and my core 2 duo e7300. Lowers temps by a couple of degrees compared to the thermal grease that came on them stock.
  17. What firmware do you have? This issue has three stickies in the hardware hangout. It is a firmware problem affecting mainly the 7200.11 drives but also yours. Look: http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/self...sp?DocId=207969
  18. Yay I have been on holiday for about a week so this is great news!!!!! Wow 88000 views on my thread! I have to read it all right now!
  19. Hey I just did a search on google for "seagate barracuda 7200.11" and this thread is about number 15! With all the attention we may get it in the first five suggestions then anyone who searches for one will come across this thread and know not to buy one!
  20. Man has this thread grown huge! Poolcarpet you are doing great maintaining this thread Thought I might add my HDD: SerialNumber:Model:P/N:Firmware:DateCode:SiteCode:PurchaseDate:FailedDate:USername:Country Origin 9QM60864:ST3500320AS:9BX154-303:SD15:09076:KRATSG:31 October 2008:Dec 2008:RiderZen:Thailand (BSY)
  21. The 9800 GT would have been good enough for most games on medium-max detail at 1680x1050 including crysis but if you want a little better get a 9800GTX+ (Not the standard 9800GTX, but the plus version as it can overclock higher, is 55nm vs 65nm, runs cooler, and comes stock with higher clocks than the 9800GTX) If you really want a good nvidia card get the GTX 260 core 216 (not the standard 260, but the core 216 version as it is faster)
  22. Sounds like its the memory overheating then. A lot of coolers on the 96/9800 gt's don't properly cool the memory. Try a smaller underclock like from 900 to 850 and see. I would say just RMA it, it could be faulty.
  23. Same board I got. But no, it doesn't do the same: it doesn't have PCI-e 2.0. Not that you really need that yet... Similarly, your P35 was made using the 90nm process just like anyone else's, and doesn't offer the power savings (which are probably quite minimal, and mainly mean they get away with a smaller cooler on the chip -- costs savings for them). P45 also brings DDR3 support (which is still too expensive, isn't used on all boards yet, provides little performance gain so far), support for 1600 FSB (which AFAIK only the QX9770 and QX9776 use), and a little nicer ICH10[R] over the ICH9[R] (hardly any difference). I surely wouldn't spend $150+ to replace a perfectly good P35-based board. Agreed. My GA-EP45-DS4P does not have DDR3 but I don't want it anyway. The southbridges are just about identical, just the 65nm over 90nm. And with PCIe 2.0 you would only see a little benefit on a high end card but PCIe 1.0 x16 is plenty good enough ATM. With my board, when you run crossfire the x16 slots go to x8 but because it is gen 2 it is the same as two PCIE 1.0 x16 slots. So you may get a performance increase in crossfire, with say two HD 4850s or something over a P35 running crossfire.
  24. There is not really much difference, however it is 65nm, supports PCIe 2.0, uses a little less power, and runs a little cooler. What is your current P35 motherboard? I wouldn't upgrade unless your current board isn't a very good P35 board.
