  1. The game cradle of rome is some times listed as being able to run under win98 the version i have (dutch version) however does not run under windows 98 due to the following missing api's shell32.dll SHGetFolderPathA ole32.dll CoWaitForMultipleHandles It does run correctly with kernelx though.

    PYTHON 2.6

When you install the latest version of python 2.5 or 2.6 you get a message that 2.5.x is the latest vesion that supports win 9x. So I guess it is no longer officially supported. That does not mean it can't work though if the programming language in which python was written is fully win98 compatible and no OS specific commands were used the python core should run on a win 98 platform. at least that is what i think i have very little programming experience my self so i could be wrong. I'll try to look into it some more when i have some more time.

    PYTHON 2.6

The python 2.6 core seems to work under win 98 with kernelx 0.3.6(have not tested it without kernelx yet) Not all functions work though, 29 of the 305 tests failed and 1 was skipped unexpected.

  5. The difference between hitlist and W3C in OS usage statistics is probably caused by a difference in users they sample. If Hitlist would track more hits from the business segment and W3C more from the private segment they will get different statistics and it is possible that the use of win 98 is increasing in some market segements while dropping in others.
  6. just click on start then find -> files and folders then paste recovery.xcu in the name box at look in select local harddrives and press find. This should find the file . In OO 2 the file is located in C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\OpenOffice....\Office
  7. Battlefield 2 can't run under win 98 yet perhaps with a future version of kernelex it can. The following api's are still missing NTdll.dll NtAllocateVirtualMemory NtCreateProfile NtQueryInformationProcess NtQuerySystemInformation NtQueryVirtualMemory NtSetInformationProcess NtSetIntervalProfile NtStartProfile NtStopProfile NtWriteFile RtlUnicodeToOemN _chkstk _stricmp atoi sprintf NtClose NtCreateKey NtDeleteKey NtFsControlFile NtOpenFile NtOpenKey NtQueryInformationToken NtQueryOpenSubKeys NtQuerySystemTime NtSetValueKey RtlAdjustPrivilege RtlAllocateAndInitializeSid RtlConvertSidToUnicodeString RtlCopySid RtlCreateEnvironment RtlDestroyEnvironment RtlEqualSid RtlExpandEnvironmentStrings_U RtlFreeSid RtlFreeUnicodeString RtlIdentifierAuthoritySid RtlInitUnicodeString RtlLengthSid RtlQueryEnvironmentVariable_U RtlSetEnvironmentVariable RtlSubAuthorityCountSid RtlSubAuthoritySid RtlTimeToSecondsSince1980 RtlUnicodeStringToInteger ole32.dll CoWaitForMultipleHandles advapi32.dll AccessCheckByType kernel32.dll PrivCopyFileExW user32.dll UpdatePerUserSystemParameters shell32.dll SHBindToParent
  8. Under mediaplayers Mediamonkey http://www.mediamonkey.com/download/ There is a basic free version and a paid gold version Win98 and me are still supported
  9. What is the IP adress of your win 98 machine? And which Ip adresses do the other computers have. use winipcfg to see what ip adress you have under win 98 (do not know if it works under other versions of windows.
  10. Paragon Mount everything should in theory allow you to write to NTFS partions under win 98. I do not know if they still support it though and it is not free either. I think the demo version only allows you to read files from NTFS. To read from NTFS partitions you could also use NTFS reader.
  11. Don't forget to patch bf 1942 the weapons are poorly balanced in 1.0 . I like bf 1942 more than most other 3d shooting games. The levels are all outside and you play with teams so you do not have to worry about your bacj as much as in some other games. and there are a lot of vehicels you can use in the game like tanks and aircraft (although flying is not easy)
  12. There are default monitor drivers in win 98 next time the computer boots up and says it has detected the unknown monitor select display a list of all drivers select show all hard ware then select the super VGA 1280 x 1024 under standard monitor types. I think your monitor should work with this driver.
  13. We often play battlefield 1942 on Lan parties it should run on your computer
  14. Is your computer a laptop or a brand? If so have you looked at manufacturers website? perhaps you can find a driver there.
  15. I use Media monkey for playing music. It still supports win 98 With version 3 the database sometimes get's damaged when the computer hangs so you have to rescan all the tracks. It also uses quite a lot of system resources. You could use version 2 as well I do not think you'll miss much functions and it should use less resources. I also had a program that did not work with kernelex 0.3.4. It did work with KernelEX 0.3.2 all though you can run less win xp programs with kernel 0.3.2
  16. there is an updated version made by members of this forum see this thread http://www.msfn.org/board/KernelEx-v034-released-t71476.html you can download the latest stable release from this website http://x86.neostrada.pl/KernelEx/ this kernel should support the SHELL32.DLL:SHCreateDirectoryExW function.
  17. If you could setup your wireless router to distribute the IP adresses it may be possible to switch between wire and wireless without rebooting. step 1 To do so you would have to enable your 10/100 wired ethernetcard in your bios and install it's drivers. Then go to control panel select system --> device manager -->network adapters --> 10/100 wired ethernet card and select disable. you should see a red cross appear on your 10/100 ethernetcard icon. (sometimes you need to click refresh for it to appear. step 2 Test if every thing is still working via your wireless network adapter. step 3 setup your router to distribute Ip adresses (i do not have a router so i do not know how you should do that and wether your routewr is capable of this) step 4 go to control panel --> network connection --> Tcp/IP wireless adaptor --> properties and select obtain an Ip adres automaticly. Your computer may need to reboot now. (you will need to do this wth your other pc's as well to prevent that your laptop get's the same ip adres assigned as your pc) step 5 check wether your wireless network adapter has an ip adress asigned to it (if the ip adres start with 169 is has not been assigned an ip adres) So far the preparation. these steps you'll have to do each time you switch the example is for switching from wireless to wire. step 6 Go to the control panel select system --> device manager -->network adapters --> wireless adaptor and select disable. Now enable the wired 10/100 ethernet adaptor. step 7 goto run in the windows menu type winipcfg now select the wired 10/100 ethernet adaptor and press renew your wired 10/100 ethernet adaptor should get an ip adress asigned to it. hope this works. To Mijself On my pc with win98 i am able to enable and disable my network card without rebootingstrange that you have to reboot.
  18. Can you ping your wireless router and the other Pc's from your laptop ? If not your laptop might still be trying to use your wire connection. In that case disableing the wire network card may help.
  19. I noticed one of the Ip adresses is higher than the one of your router have you tried setting it lower than the one from the router? I do not know much about computers but this seemed to differ between the working and non working pc's If your laptop has a normal wire connection does it work with the wire connexion?
  20. I also had problems with scanning my hard disk with the standard win 98 scandisk I use disk checker instead. (there is a free trial version but it is limited to 30 scans. If you find a bug however you get a free licence)
  21. There are some utility programs that also have options for hybernate and suspend you could try if they are able to make your computer hybernate. An example is shutdowntray. It allowed me to suspend my computer properly while my computer used to hang before. http://www.victechsoftware.com/shutdowntray.html If you would mean suspend instead of hybernate there would be a fairly logical exlanation that your computer no longer is able to suspend. When your computer goes to suspend the main part of your power supply and most of the hard ware in your computer shuts down. only the +5VSB output in your computers powersupply still supplies power to your memory and the power switch If you would add more memeory the +5VSB may not be able to give enough power to your mememory for it to operate properly this causes your computer to not wake up properly from suspend. Windows detects this and will disable the suspend function to prevent accidental data loss. reinstalling the drivers for the ACPI (under control panel /system/systemdevices) could also bring back the hybernate function. You could do this by removing the device and then use add new hardware function to reinstall the drivers. This should put the hybernate function back in the shutdown menu if your bios supports it.
