Noddy21, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. You do not need to integrate SP2, only SP3 if you want. You don't need to add anything manually, just copy ALL files/folders, including the win51** to your working folder before running nLite. Yes, restart from scratch. If you continue to have problems, please post a Windows Explorer screen shot of you working folder. Enjoy, John.

Jennifer, that's the most AddOns and other non updates I have ever seen in an .ini. What changed in the last two runs? Something must have changed to cause your Shell32 problem. BTW, if you put it into the System32 folder, be sure it is the Shell32.dll not dl_. I am curious why you are not using SP3? Enjoy, John. Edit: Search your nLited folder for shell32.dll. If there is one, see if you can figure out where it came for. It will probably be used instead of the Shell32.dl_.

wwwoholic, great, please let us know how things go. I do think marfig's problem was to do with integrating an SP on top of an already integrated one. It is funny I have not heard of this error before. I also think a virtual system is well worth the effort! Enjoy, John.

wwwoholic, I don't think you are slow, at all. Perhaps you are thinking too much and getting yourself wrapped around the axle. When I say integrate only one SP, that means just the latest one you want to use. Today, for most that would be SP3 on XP. It does not matter what your starting point is - no SP, SP1, or SP2 - slipstream only one. MS says to install SP1, SP2 then SP3, but that is for a RUNNING system, not integration into an install. As I stated before, when nLite discovers the WMP11 file in Hot Fixes, IT calls WMP11 Slipstreamer. When it was first implemented, the user was asked to install it. I have since noticed that WMP11Slipstreamer.exe is in the nLite folder in the Program Files folder. Take a look and see if it is in yours. I have not tried it, but I assume I could remove WMP11 Slipstreamer from my system and it would still work because nLite would use the one in its folder. I simply place WMP11 and its updates (in that order) in my Hot Fix section and shortly after I start the process, I see a WMP11 Slipstreamer window open and can watch it run. I would urge you to give things a try. It is very cheap to try these things and does no harm. I think 'just trying' is a great to learn. Enjoy, John.

SloppyGoat, I hope you are not using nLite in a business environment, because that violates nuhi's (owner/author) license agreement. Your Last Session looks OK except for the Hot Fixes. I don't use RyanVM's stuff, so I know almost nothing about them. If the update pack contains updates to IE7 (I suspect it does), then it needs to be placed after the integration of IE7. If it is back wards, all kinds of strange symptoms will occur. Have you followed the rules I posted? Always started with a fresh copy of your files/folders etc.? There have been several posts about the network adapters definition in nLite, including from me. I hope nuhi will take a look and correct this some day. Until then, the definitions end up in winnt.sif. I have and you can edit this file after running nLite but before making an ISO and change the settings to your liking. In the Support folder (CD), you will find a file called deploy.cab. Expand it and you will find two help files. Look in the deploy.chm for definitions of the controls in the winnt.sif file. My latest ploy was to set the IP address to 0.0.0.0. I get an install error in setuperr.log but I get the DHCP and all the IP addresses I need to communicate with my VM host. Enjoy, John.

anthonyaudi, I answered your MRT question and the install of .NET and its updates, both in Kurt_Aust's guide. Enjoy, John.
-
anthonyaudi, he means you can install it out of the RunOnce exit of nLite. If you will look at the top of page 1, at Kurt_Aust's Run1_XP-64.bat you will see how he installs many different programs. The Malicious Removal Tool can be installed the same way using the /Q switch. Enjoy, John.

SloppyGoat, please calm down. I suspect cockpit error. The people who post here are the ones who have a problem and the huge percentage of them are helped and happy as a result. Please spend some time looking at a few pages of posts and you will see. Unfortunately some present a problem and ask for help and do not respond, leaving us to wonder. Now here is my personal inculcation: Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. I suspect to have violated one or more of these rules. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I suggest you look into a virtual system (VirtualPC, VirtualBox, VMware Server) to test your ISOs. It is a sure preventer of coasters, since you can install from an ISO file. John.

anthonyaudi, where is your Last Session.ini? Remember, I asked you to attach it? You cannot place Windows Defender in as a Hot Fix. You need to look at this great guide by Kurt_Aust, if you are building ISOs from XP x64. I know nothing about Windows Search 4.0, but I suspect you can install it the same way as .NET and its updates as shown in the link I provided. I know nothing about RyanVM stuff and you should direct your questions to his forum. What happened to your IE7 and WMP11 problems? BTW, you cannot slipstream an SP into XP x64 on an XP (32 bit) machine without a trick as pointed out in the link (page 13) I provided. Enjoy, John.

marfig, thanks much for your report. Please let us know if you learn more or have more questions. Enjoy, John.

wwwoholic, that admonition is mine not nuhi's (owner/author). It is really not absolute but trying to specify the occasions where one can and can't would not be at all easy and certainly not something I want to tackle. The FAQs say, for instance, that you can remove more components in additional runs. Seems reasonable. Just recently there was a post about the changing of an account name in the Unattended section and then seeing the 'removed' account after install. So this is definitely a no-no. I hope you see the conundrum here. I have had symptoms on my VM after an install where the Quick Launch folder was missing, IE shortcuts were gone from the Start menu and several more strange things. When I quit running nLite against the same source, all strange symptoms went away. I make a copy of my CD to an HDD folder and then copy from here to a working folder before I run nLite. I just load my CD, do a Select All>Copy>then Paste in destination folder. Sorry not my FAQ, again it is nuhi's. I am a user as yourself. I assume it means what it says, but I would not do it myself. With the use of virtual systems, give it and many other things a try and see what works. Now to your questions. Learning from marfig, check your source CD for an SPNOTES file. If present seems to indicate an SP has been integrated and trying to integrate another will lead to trouble. Since, I think nLite version 1.4.9, WMP11 Slipstreamer is built in and you only need to place the WMP11 .exe and its updates in the nLite Hot Fix section. Remember to place the updates after the player. When you run nLite, you will see WMP11 Slipstreamer running. If you have more questions, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Enjoy, John.

anthonyaudi, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. You must not be using the correct files. Enjoy, John.

sysadhater, I think your problem is that your updates are not in order. The updates to IE7 appear before IE7. I'm surprised you don't have "wacky"er results. I am running XP x64, so can't comment on your other Hot Fixes, but all the updates need to be in proper order. It seems to me that the WUD shortcut does not work at first because there is no default browser. After you open IE7 and assign a default, it works. Please get those Hot Fixes in order and let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
-
anthonyaudi, just place the .exe files into the Hot Fix section of nLite. Be sure to place any updates to them after. Enjoy, John.

Guillaume, OK, I'll be easy. I used Black Viper's site and his .reg files to tweak my nLite ISO and in the process tried to learn something about services. I suspect that some services in Manual will be started when needed and some will not. Perhaps if the needing service expects the needed service to be in Automatic and started, it will not start it. If it is Stopped (if in Manual and not started otherwise) the needing service fails to start. In a quick search of BV's stuff (I emphasize quick), I think these service may be needed: mnmsrvc TapiSrv PlugPlay RasAuto RasMan RDSessMgr Perhaps this can serve as a starting point for you. I found that both RasAuto and RasMan were needed to allow my VM to communicate with my host. Please see if these services are in his Default state and if not put them there and see if RDT works. If some are missing, do all that are there and observe. I just noticed that I referred you to BV's XP x64 page (because that is what I am running) and you are running XP 32 bit. When looking at his site consult the XP page. If you have to go back to start, I suggest you get a virtual system (VirtualPC, VirtualBox, VMware Server - all free) to do this testing. It will allow you to use ISO files and burn no CDs. I can install XP x64 on my VMware Server in less than 15 minutes. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.

hellbringer616, you could also re-partition your current HDD to leave your old system intact and provide a partition to use to try your new installation. Enjoy, John.

Guillaume, first I need to say that responses in this forum are provided my people wishing to contribute (almost all are users as you and I are) and are not "pretty crappy", but based on their knowledge and experience. Most of the users, I suspect, do not use Remote Desktop and therefore are unfamiliar with what it requires. I certainly fall into this definition, but I would like to help if possible. I suspect, of course, that you have removed something RDT requires. The bad news is that once something is removed, others have posted that it is almost impossible to get back without doing a re-install. So if you are willing to rerun nLite and start adding some stuff back into your ISO, we may be able yo get your RDT back. I looked, briefly, at Black Viper's site and it seems remote cut/paste requires clipsrv.exe to run. I suggest you look at his site for all the other services he says need to be running to get RDT to work. If some are missing, you will probably need to rerun nLite. If they are present but not running or in the proper state, then try getting them in the proper state and see if RDT works. Let us know what you learn. And now my standard inculcation: If your latest Last Session is different from the one you posted, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.

sysadhater, "wacky" stuff drives me crazy too. With the information provided, I can only suspect that you are running nLite more than once against the same source. Please make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Picking one "wacky", I use Kurt_Aust's great guide for x64 and do not place *WindowsUpdate-30* into the hot fix fix section of nLite. I assume it does no integrate properly. It seems like to me that WUD asks me occasional (on my old host) to install the latest updater when I do a custom scan. This could explain the intermittent nature of your problem. Please chose a single "wacky", attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini and we'll see if we can figure it out. Enjoy, John.

hellbringer616, I would think removing all drivers would be a problem. You may not have all the drivers that MS uses to talk to the floppy, CD/DVD, keyboard, mouse and others that you are not aware of. Why do you want to remove them all? The space savings would be small, I think. I don't know about ATM, but assume you can remove it. In all cases, give it a try and let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.

marfig, wow, great! I think you are absolutely correct! The integrate term in the SPNOTES probably refers to the /integrate:path switch that is used to slipstream an SP into a directory. I have two OEM (purchased) for XP x64 and the older has SP1 and the later has SP2. Neither has the SPNOTES file and both work just fine. I think you are also correct that you can use the CD to do all your nLite work except slipstream an SP. You will have to use Windows Update to get the SPs you need after you install. Since you have already DLed SP2 and SP3, you could try installing them (after install; you need both on a running machine), using your VM and see if all goes well. Please keep us informed. Enjoy, John. EDIT: You can also consider installing SP2, SP3 and hot fixes out of the RunOnce exit. Kurt_Aust's guide shows how he installs many programs using this technique. I use it on my XP x64 ISOs.
-
JenniferArden, here is a good description of the $OEM$ structure. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Just create a $$ folder in the $OEM$ folder. Inside the $$ folder, create a Sysem32 folder and put your modified Shell32 inside the System32 folder. You must disable SFC for this to work. Enjoy, John.
-
AGlobalThreatsK, here is a Registry change for disabling the messages: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system] "DisableStatusMessages"=dword:00000001I have tested this on my VM, but be careful, take a backup of the key. If you decide you don't like it, just delete the DisableStatusMessages value. You are on your own! Enjoy, John.
-
marfig, does the original CD have a $OEM$ folder? Why don't you post a screen shot of the original CD Windows Explorer view of it so we can see the file/folders on it. Maybe someone has seen something similar. I also suggest you do a search for problems with recovery CDs. Good luck, John.

hellbringer616, I know of no virtual systems that emulate down to the MB level. Testing drivers is one of the short comings of these systems. The ones I have heard of are VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server - all free. I use VMware Server because I run XP x64, and at the time I first needed a system, it was the only one to support x64. It is huge however, almost 600 MB in the latest version. The other two are much smaller, maybe 40-50 MB, I think. Hopefully someone with experience will comment. There are other systems but I know nothing about them. Enjoy, John.

dj_ji.go, like I said before, this is not a hot fix and must be installed like IE8. Enjoy, John.
