  1. b-man, I suspect most of these files will be compressed into .DL_, .EX_, etc. Most compression utilities will expand them. I use 7-Zip. There is also the command line Expand command that will also. See the Help and Support on the Start Menu. Enjoy, John.

    nliteos.com gone ?

Looks like nLite and vLite sites are back up today. Enjoy, John.

    Help a girl out?

Maka84, I have some suggestions for you: Please see this thread. There are two links in the first post describing slimming down Windows for net books. The thread itself is instructive because it points out that removing something you ultimately need is very problematical. Basically, it should be considered that anything you remove requires a rebuild/reinstall to correct. And, some unsolicited - do not remove IE or Windows Update. Both are really needed for security reasons. Consider a virtual system (VMware Server, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are free) to test your ISOs. Enjoy, John.
  4. Kurt_Aust, thanks much! John.
  5. Kurt_Aust and all. If you have not heard or experienced, one of the latest MS updates, KB973869, is broken and shows as waiting to install after it has been installed. This seems to be an x64 problem (XP and 2000), but is expected (by some) to be corrected soon. I installed the latest updates on my real machine today and installed KB973869 again, but it is still showing as ready and waiting. Enjoy, John. BTW: This is the second time I have typed this, as MSFN had some kind of data base error and lost my previous one.

kevluck, change /quiet to /passive. Enjoy, John.
  7. Rayearth, after I posted my last reply, I realized that the 'manual install' thing was probably not your problem, but it would be a stopper when you got past the problem that is preventing your USB install now. jaclaz is very knowledgeable of USB installs and surely can help you. Enjoy, John.
  8. Rayearth, I may have found your problem. You must not remove 'Ręczna instalacja i aktualizacja' (Manual Install and Upgrade). Please see here. Please let us know. Enjoy, John.
  9. Rayearth, as I said before, I am unknowledgeable of USB boot/install. My current machine will not even boot from a USB stick. Perhaps my next one will. I had misread the title and that is why I asked to see winnt.sif. I assume you have looked at txtsetup.sif to make sure it is present and not corrupt? Have you ever done an XP USB boot? Have you ever done an XP USB install? Some time ago, I looked at the USB Install forum and remember that it is a very complicated process. Have you used that or another process? Since you are getting an error message from Setup, it must have booted but is having trouble reading the files it needs. The txtsetup.sif file must be one of the first ones it reads. I saw your post on the USB forum. Hopefully they can help you. If you have not read their posted procedure, be sure to spend some time there. Enjoy, John.
  10. Rayearth, right now I do not think you have an nLite problem. I think you have a 'install from USB stick' problem and need to post into that forum for a solution. I cannot help you with the USB install although there are people here who can. You are probably OK running under W7 as long as you don't integrate an SP. The fact that you can install on VM indicates that the ISO is probably OK. You could still have a driver problem (VM does not test drivers), but you have not gotten that far on the USB install. You can run nLite under XP in a VM. Several here have used this technique to get around the Vista/W7 problems. I think you have included an update (KB938464) that will not integrate with nLite. I suggest you look at Kurt_Aust's great guide for x64. Enjoy, John.
  11. Kurt_Aust, thanks. I assume this is on your x64 system. Please let me know if not. I'll have to investigate why mine are all disabled. Thanks, John. EDIT: After running nLite about a zillion times, I have discovered that removing the Alerter service under Components Task - Services causes nLite to disable all the options in my first post. Thanks for your help, Kurt_Aust. John.
  12. Rayearth, we need to see your Last Session. Please attach (not paste) it and let us know if you followed the other advice in my first reply. Are you trying to install from a USB stick? I just saw your edit. You cannot integrate an SP under W7 to make an XP ISO. What about a screen shot of the error? I need to understand when the error happens and don't know what you mean by "as soon as the win setup prepares configuration". Did you get into GUI mode? What T clock are you at when the error occurs? Enjoy, John.
  13. Rayearth, there is a forum here discussing USB installs. When are you getting the error? Can you post a screen shot of the message? Have you tried your ISO on a virtual system (VMware Server, VirtualBox and VirtualPC are free)? Please attach your winnt.sif, but please obscure your private data such as CD key. And, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  14. Chaotech, nLite is licensed for personal use only. Please see the agreement that is in the nLite folder in the Program Files folder. We can still possibly help with your installation. At the top of the page is a link to the Unattended Guide. Please take a look. You can use the [GuiRunOnce] section in the Winnt.sif file to merge your .reg file. Enjoy, John.
  15. I DLed and extracted the Chip Set driver file for the DFI main board I am currently planning to use for my next build. I then searched for the .inf files and placed all of them into the driver section of nLite and built an ISO. Early on during install, Setup halted with a message that a driver was not compatible with my XP x64 OS. The module called out was indeed the 32 bit version of AmdIde.sys. These were input as text mode drivers since there was a txtsetup.oem file in the same folder. I PMed Fernando 1, and he told me I probably did not even need the drivers and that in truth they were not text mode drivers and he did not know why there was a txtsetup.oem file present. I then tried nLite specifying these drivers as PnP but never tried to install them. The AmdIde.sys (32 bit) file was not present in the NLDRV folder and I assume Setup would not have complained. I then went on a search for a better set of Chip Set drivers and found supposedly later version drivers at the AMD site. Interestingly these were called Catalyst drivers, confusing me with the video drivers of the same name. Quite surprisingly, the DL contained only one driver and as Fernando 1 pointed out, since there was no .sys file, this was really not a 'true' driver. It was only a .cat and .inf file. It is the driver for the SMBus (System Management Bus). I pointed nLite to the .inf, built an ISO and it installed fine on my VMware Server VM. Since I have no HW, I will have to delay that testing till later. In the end, the total number of drivers I needed for the DFI MB was two. One was the AHCI text mode driver and the other the SMBus driver with no .sys file. It seems strange to me that there are no special normal mode drivers for the SATA/RAID. The AHCI driver was provided by Fernando 1 here. Have fun, John.
  16. Hey guys and gals! I think I have posed a simple question here and requested a simple look at your configuration to answer. Please look at your Last Session and see if you have selected any of the Boot and Shutdown Tweaks shown above and then look in your Registry at the key and values, shown above, and see if they are disabled. Thanks, John.
  17. mniceguy81, as far as I know MS has not and will not release DirectX 10 or 11 for XP. I think it is just one example of their strong arm tactics to convince us to move to Vista and now W7. I get the impression that the later versions of DirectX are quite an improvement over 9, but I am not a gamer and don't know personally. At some time in the future W7 will be required to support higher core count processors and I will move to it then. Enjoy, John.
  18. mniceguy81, thanks for reporting. Glad you found the problem. Enjoy, John.
  19. avechuche, great, thanks for sharing. I am glad to learn one more thing! Enjoy, John.
  20. rebrov, great, thanks for sharing! Enjoy, john.
  21. sam1984, thanks for reporting - glad all's OK. Enjoy, John.
  22. noddy, if you used another program to process your source, you need to communicate with that provider. If you used only nLite, then, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  23. rebrov, sorry, I was wrong about the blanks in the Registry value names. They really do have the blanks. I do not know what is going on and I suggest you communicate with the person that wrote the .reg file you are using. Did you follow the advice in my first reply? Enjoy, John.
  24. mniceguy81, how about the questions I asked? BTW, you should get no errors running nLite or during install. Perhaps a few in the System log after install. I am curious what AccountInit.bat is. Please attach it so we can take a look. Enjoy, John.
  25. rebrov, your value names for the start page and the other IE values have blanks in them. This will not work. There are two WaitToKillAppTime values, and you did not say which key you were talking about, so can't tell there. Enjoy, John.
