onetimeuser, here is a link to Black Viper. It is a great link for understanding Services. Enjoy, John.

Schicklgruber, I personally cannot tell you anything until you run the experiments I suggested early. Enjoy, John.

David McMahon, I don't know why changing the Program Files directory would have fixed the OP's problem. So please attach (not paste) your Last Session. Is the file present in you nLited folder? If not, is it in your original CD files? Did you get your hot fix order straighten out and start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders? Enjoy, John.

onetimeuser, sounds like a good candidate to me, but I am not very knowledgeable about networks. Enjoy, John.

onetimeuser, it was a quick guess that could be tried without running nLite again - sorry no fix. I looked more carefully at your Last Session and see that you have removed a ton of network stuff. I cannot guess which one(s) might be causing your problem. You probably need to start over and not remove so much. If you want to track down the real culprit, I recommend a virtual system (VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server are all free). Then you can build an ISO, boot from it and do your testing without ever burning a disk (coaster). Remember, please make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

onetimeuser just a quick suggestion. Looking at your Services section in the Last Session (thanks for attaching), Enable and Start all the services you have altered, reboot and let us know what happens - just a quick guess. Good luck, John.

Schicklgruber, again I see nothing in your Last Session that concerns me. Have you done the things I have asked - install original CD in VB - checked size and MD5 of IE7? You definitely do not need the Uxtheme option. I also don't think it could have been a problem so early in Setup and I hope it would not cause Setup to fail - perhaps just not allow a theme. If you will look in the Last Session [Remove Files] section, you will see that avi.clock is listed - correct this error by removing this entry. Are you always starting with a fresh, fresh copy of you CD files/folders? Are you using nLite to create your ISO? The only thing left after the things I have suggested (assuming all OK) is the Tweaks, Drop all of them and see what happens. Please let us hear. Enjoy, John.

Schicklgruber, you integrated IE7 correctly by simply placing it into your Hot Fix area. I went to the MS DL site and got a copy of IE7. The Size (Not size on Disk) and MD5 are 14.7 MB (15,452,536 bytes) and EA16789F6FC1D2523F704E8F9AFBE906. Please check these for yours. So, you are saying that your problems are on VirtualBox and not HW? Have you tried to install (at least to the problem area) on VB directly from your CD? Please give that a try if not. I see nothing in your Last Session that should give this problem. Please let us hear. Enjoy, John.
-
Schicklgruber, I think you can directly integrate IE7 into SP2 - no AddOn needed, but GrofLuigi is correct about needing the Uxtheme Option if your theme is not signed. It would be nice if you were running on a virtual system. VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware are all free. Since so little is being done in nLite, I am wondering if the original CD will install. Have you tried that? So, try the original CD (at least till you get past your problem), if OK, then try a new nLited ISO with the Uxtheme Option enabled. Please let us hear. Enjoy, John.

Schicklgruber, we need more information. Sometimes you can get into Safe Mode by pushing F8 when your machine Reboots. If you can, right click My Computer-Click Properties-Select Advanced tab-Click Settings under Startup and Recovery, then uncheck Automatically Restart. You can also find this as a Tweak in nLite. Then Restart you machine and it should stop on the BSOD. Please post the error code. Also, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

spicychicken, I would not think it possible that a RAID without a driver would 'reset' and lose all its data. I could be wrong (have been before). It would be safer to unplug it but you will need to plug it in sometime. I have two RAID controllers (onboard and 3Ware). Sometimes I have all my drives attached to one and sometime to the other for testing purposes. I run only one array and install x64 on it. No problems, but I am not expecting data to remain across reconfiguration. You only need to 'see' one drive/array for install and therefore only need a text mode (txtsetup.oem) driver for it - will also serve as the normal mode driver after install. The other drives/arrays will need only normal mode drivers and these can be installed during Windows installation (Slipstreamed) or after install. They must all be 64 bit drivers. I highly recommend that you use a virtual system (VirtualBox and VMware Server both support x64 and are free). It will not test drivers in most cases (certainly not text mode) but is very useful for testing. Please do keep us informed how things are going and please attach your Last Session. There are lots of smart people helping here. Enjoy, John.

vinifera, I guess you need to ask those many people how they did it. I would be curious to hear. Enjoy, John.
-
vinifera, I think you would be able to fit two sets of files on one DVD but not on one CD. What is your intent? Do you want to install from one sometimes and the other at another time? I know of no way to do that. When you install Windows, you boot the CD/DVD and Windows SetUp runs, asking you questions and installing Windows. Enjoy, John.

kim7059, you are welcome to look at mine. The system is installed on the machine I am typing on and seems to be working fine. There should be many Last Session files posted here in other threads. It is what I always ask for when responding to a problem. Enjoy, John.

BenWelch, in your first post, you said, 'when you reinstalled', your key was not accepted. What do you mean by reinstall? And, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

spicychicken, I do all my building in one nLite run - add SP2, drivers, hot fixes and run Kurt_Aust's process from the RunOnce exit in Unattended section. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I took a look at your MB driver DL page. I DLed some and extracted them. I found one which contained a txtsetup.oem file (required for text mode - F6), most of the others made little sense to me. If we can find a driver with a txtsetup.oem file for the RAID you want to install Windows on, you should be able to get away from F6. There seems to be many, many choices of drivers for various configurations. The driver expert here is Fernando 1 - may have to call him into action. I think you need to let us know exactly which RAID you wish to install Windows on and we will try to help.

mba2431, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

David McMahon, we still need to know what error(s) you are getting. Please tell us exactly what the message(s) is/are. If you are having missing files, then search your nLited folder to see it the files are there. I suspect your array of hot fixes. I run XP x64 so don't recognize your updates but they look really strange to me. I see many updates labeled for Media Player 11, but I do not see that you have installed WMP11, or maybe that is it at the bottom - should be at the top. You also have an AddOn I know nothing about. These are a good source of problems. Are your hot fixes in the correct order - oldest at the top? I recommend you get a virtual system (VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server are free) and start taking out AddOns and hot fixes (assuming you get them in the correct order) and test the ISO. Enjoy, John.

timminn and David McMahon, we need more information. Have you run nLite more than once against the same source? Have you run any other programs (other than nLite) against your source? What is your source - OEM, retail, etc? Please post screen shots of your errors. This is easy to do if you are using a virtual system (which I hope you are - VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server are free). And, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John. EDIT: timminn, is the file icfgnt.dll file on your install disk?

spicychicken, you should have no problem using XP (32 bit) running nLite to create an x64 ISO, except for adding an SP. There is a good tutorial for x64 by Kurt_Aust. Please give it a read. He will tell you how to get around the restriction on SPs. He also has an up-to-date hot fix list and other install options you may need. When using nLite, you cannot use F6 to install text mode drivers unless you disable OEM Preinstall. Please go to the Unattended section and look at the Help text on the OEM Preinstall. If fact, it is very useful to read all the Help text messages in nLite (? in a circle). Since the guides are rather limited, these are very useful. If you will post a link to your MB driver DLs, we will take a look and see what we can determine. NLite will tell you what SP is installed on your CD when you bring it up. Now, I have a question for you. Since you have two Opteron processors, do you need two copies of Windows and/or two license keys? As a final note if you encounter problems, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

David McMahon, what error box? Please post a screen shot. Just install WPM11 Slipstreamer, then run nLite and include the WMP11 file (wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe) and its hot fixes into the nLite hot fix section. Also, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

shadesters, are you sure the vendor and device IDs are for your Mass Storage Controller? They translate into a Texas Instrument Integrated FlashMedia Controller. See here. Fernando 1 will have to tell us for sure if you think it is correct. Enjoy, John.
-
shadesters, thanks for the Last Session files. Don't know what you mean here, but you should not run nLite more than once against the same source - asking for trouble. As to using the other drive(s). After installation, right click My Computer and click on Manage. Then click on Disk Management. All your drives will be displayed here. You can then select the one(s) you did not install on and format, name, assign drive letters, etc. If you right click on a drive you will be presented with options. Enjoy, John.
-
shadesters, it is always good to attach your Last Session. Thanks, John.

Need help installing xp pro on my former vista laptop
johnhc replied to vistaisevil's topic in nLite
vistaisevil, to use nLite and this forum you need to have a legal, valid copy of Windows with a legal and valid key. There is no way to create one of these without buying it. Please see the forum rules at the top of the page. Enjoy, John.
