  1. oao, please see my attached screen shot. Just click on the Preset word in the RED ellipse. Right, the WMP11 Slipstreamer must be installed on your system but not included within nLite.I use Kurt_Aust's method for installing .NET Framework, as follows: Rem .NET 3.5 %Source%AddOns\dotnetfx35.exe /Passive /NoRestart %Source%AddOns\NDP20SP2-KB958481-x64.exe /Passive /NoRestart %Source%AddOns\NDP20SP2-KB974417-x64.exe /Passive /NoRestart %Source%AddOns\NDP30SP2-KB958483-x64.exe /Passive /NoRestart %Source%AddOns\NDP35SP1-KB958484-x64.exe /Passive /NoRestart %Source%AddOns\NDP35SP1-KB963707-x64.exe /Passive /NoRestart %Source%AddOns\WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB961118-x64-ENU.exe /Passive /NoRestart %Source%AddOns\WindowsServer2003-KB968930-x64-ENG.exe /Passive /NoRestartYou could just place these into the RunOnce section in the Unattended section and place the required files in a folder called AddOns which is in the source folder. Enjoy, John.
  2. Ponch, I don't know what is causing the problem either, but perhaps the Color Scheme is a good candidate for a VM test. Please see the note next to it on my attached screen shot. It seems to hit close to the fonts drop list. To get larger icons on the Taskbar, I assume you have tried right clicking in the Quick Launch area (Taskbar unlocked) and selecting View-Large Icons. Perhaps View or Large Icons is missing. Have your tried using the entire .reg files from the RegShot. Please remember it is from an XP x64 system. Good luck, John.
  3. oao, please do some playing with nLite as I suggested before. Although I have not used the feature, it looks like at each Task of nLite you can save the Last Session (you select the name), then you can quit (no nLite processing), then start later and use the previously saved Last Session. Again I urge you to play and see how this works. Enjoy, John.
  4. oao, where did you run DM and on what OS? I tried something similar some time ago and am not familiar with DM, but I suspect it copies drivers from your running system and saves them for future use. Are you currently running the same version of Widows you are going to run nLite against? Enjoy, John.
  5. iamtheky, thanks, was mainly curious. You are tough, but perhaps I am way too easy. Enjoy, John.
  6. iamtheky, what (link, please) did you throw into RunOnce? Enjoy, John.
  7. oao, I think you can do exactly what you want. Please see my last reply. Enjoy, John.
  8. oao, Who is this question addressed to? If it is Fernando 1, then please place a reply in his thread.Have you seen my latest response to your Last Session thread? Enjoy, john.
  9. prathapml, thanks much for your reply. I could not agree more! Have fun, John.
  10. oao, in most Tasks in nLite, at the bottom, is a pull down called Presets. They allow you to save the Last Session and give it a name. It can be loaded again later. I had forgotten about this feature because I do not use it. Hope this suits your needs. Enjoy, John.
  11. oao, well, I do not understand what you are saying. I will say that the hope of getting changes to nLite are slim at best. We have not seen nuhi (author/owner) in some time and we are adjusting to getting along with work arounds for any things found (almost none). I use Kurt_Aust's method for many things but not WMP11. If you will look at my Last Session, you will see that I have simply included WMP11 installer and updates into the nLite Hot Fix section. I have WMP11 Slipstreamer installed on my system and nLite calls it to process WMP11 and its updates. Enjoy, John.
  12. Ponch, I have never used Classic theme, but have you tried to going to Properties on the DeskTop, Appearance tab, Advanced, and select Icon under Item. Here you can set the size as you wish. I just tried it in VMware on a test ISO I built. I set the theme to Classic and changed the Icon size to 64 (default 32) and I now have huge icons. Perhaps you are looking for an automated method and I don't know the Registry key. Using RegShot perhaps you could determine the appropriate key. I suspect you know that the Tweak "Explorer-Launch folder windows in a separate process" exposes a Windows bug. Enjoy, john. EDIT: Sorry, looks like I answered the wrong question. I do see Large and Extra Large on my fonts pull down. I'll see if I can find the Registry key. EDIT: Here are the three files that RegShot created on my XP x64 VM. Looks weird - hope you can make some sense of it - especially the Cryptography thingy.
  13. oao, drivers can be a little intimidating. If you will post a link to the drivers you have DLed, we can take a look and give you some pointers. Fernando 1 is the driver expert here and he has two stickies above on drivers. The one on Intel drivers should be of interest to you. Even if you include (point to .inf file) that is not applicable to your HW, Windows will not install it. NLite will include it in the NLDRV folder and the appropriate install file(s) but Windows will ignore it if the device and vendor IDs do not agree with any HW on your system. I am running ATI video drivers and I do have to point to a video driver and an HDMI driver and I assume nVidia is the same. Enjoy, John.
  14. oao, instead of two consecutive posts, it is best to just edit the first and add to it. Please do some testing. I suspect that nLite will not save an .ini if you do not click yes on the "Do you want to start the processing?" question. Test and see. This sounds like a getting started problem. I suggest you just grit your teeth and do it all at once. The .ini files will be saved. You may make a mistake or 40, so what. After testing (in a virtual system), start anew with a fresh copy of your source, using your saved .ini files and go forward - adding/deleting hot fixes, drivers, components, options, etc. Now test again. I think you are hung up on the details too soon. In the final analysis Kurt_Aust is almost always correct and he is this time. You can run nLite and add an SP, then quit. There is no reason to save the .ini file - you will never add an SP to this folder again. Then you can run WMP11 Slipstreamer (with or without nLite) and be done with that. Now you start with this as your 'fresh' source. I do not do such. I always start with a copy of my CD, then in one nLite run apply SP2, include WMP11 in my hot fixes and do all the rest. It takes me a little longer, but I always know where I am. I have done both the SP and WMP11 up front and that works, but then I have a folder full of my CD plus - perhaps 700 MB. Do it as you wish. I tend to tell people that it is not necessary to run nLite more than once as a safety measure. People tend to do things that get them into trouble here. Please do some testing/playing. I have attached my Last Session.ini for your reading pleasure. Enjoy, John.
  15. As with many things in the world and especially OSs, most are compromises. You can choose to run without a PageFile and get away with it. I have decided to run with a 2 GB one. Do I need this much? Well, only when I need this much. I just brought up VMware Server and it used over 700 MB of memory and the PageFile usage jumped up to 2 GB. Maybe a 2GB PageFile is too small for me. What if I ran several VMs at once? What normally happens when Windows runs out of real memory? It pages some (hopefully least used SW) out. If there is no PageFile, something bad happens. I would rather have a reasonably sized PageFile and not crash just as I am about to discover something fun. I normally run Prime95 to test changes to my system. The torture test says it is heavy on memory and once in the past on another machine I received a message that I was short of memory, so I tried it to see if my memory usage would be challenging. I appreciate all the comments but I think we can get into a contest (of the P kind) about this subject. Later, John.
  16. oao, what you are doing is not safe, at least that is what I say. You need to heed: Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. The Last Session.ini is always saved into the Presets folder in the nLite folder in Program Files with a date/time stamp. It is also saved, as Last Session.ini into the source folder unless you select the Option to not save it. If you really want to use earlier copies of Last Session, you can import it on the Presets screen of nLite. After I get an ISO that I think a lot of, I copy the Last Session from the source folder into a folder I save. I renamed it to something meaningful, then import it when I need it again. One must be sure to name the front part of the .ini and the _u.ini exactly the same or a mess ensues. In my opinion, there is never a need to run nLite more than once against the same source. To do so is inviting grief. You, of course, can do as you wish and I only ask that you inform us that you are running nLite multiple times against the same source. Hope this answers your questions and then some. Enjoy, John.
  17. eit, I'm not sure what you removed, so, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. I assume your dongle is a USB? Enjoy, John. EDIT: See this thread.
  18. Thanks for the all the comments. I have decided that my PageFile is too large. When I do my next install I will use the VBS to set the it to 2048 MB (0.5x) for both the Initial and Maximum. I am not convinced that leaving the PageFile fragmented is a good idea, but this specification should prevent it from being fragmented. I have run some tests on my machine while watching the Task Manager. While running Prime95 (Torture Test), I see my PageFile size varying around 1300 MB, so I selected 2048 MB. Thanks again, John.
  19. Goetian, sure is. Many have done it, including myself (on XP x64). Enjoy, John.
  20. jaclaz and submix8c, thanks for your reply. I will check out the 1.5x myth. I did find PageDeFrag from SI, but it is 32 bit only and I am running 64 bit. Thanks, John.
  21. prathapml, thanks much for your reply. I was hoping there was a way to run your tweak one time very early and be done. I guess not. I have seen several discussions (via Google) that did manually the way you describe. I had not thought of implementing that using my install method (including WPI). Right now I am running DisKeeper 30-day trial (my son swears by it and talked me into trying - I am not convinced). DisKeep has a Pagefile defrager (boot time) that I could use (I think it has command line interface) and need only one reboot (which I already do with WPI). I am not running an SSD (but do have 4GB memory), but I guess we are all headed that way. I have a pretty snappy system with a RAID5 using four WD VelociRaptors but am always looking for a faster system. I have used nuhi's Safe Removal Preset and am really fairly conservative with nLite. I too was surprised that the VBS files were missing. Recently I ran a test using nLite to see some networking settings and did nothing but the Unattended Task. The only VBS files are in some .cab files and the pagefile.vbs I added to the $OEM$ folder. For some reason nLite is not bringing VBS files into the ISO. I attach my Last Session.ini from my test run. All the things I normally do with my preset are there, but I only run the Unattended. Thanks again, John.
  22. Ash98, what I have seen on my systems is that when I delete (not move to Recycle) many or large files, shutdown (Windows is Shutting Down) takes a long time. The next shutdown then goes more quickly. Enjoy, John.
  23. fdv, well, I certainly cannot add to your post and I wonder why anyone would want to do so. NLite will do all that is needed to integrate drivers and there is no need to modify files after running nLite. Enjoy, John.
  24. redking79, I doubt it, but here is an excellent Services guide. When you are on the nLite Component Removal Task page, mousing over the options often displays some information. Otherwise, I suggest searching specific items or just doing it and testing using a virtual system (VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server are all free). Enjoy, John.
  25. Ash98, please delete your Last Session.ini and attach it. I see that you have run nLite under Vista (or W7) to create an XP ISO. This is known to fail in some cases. Since you have used WinToFlash, I suggest you go to their support/forum for help. There is a USB installation forum here that makes some comments about what not to remove, using nLite, when making a USB installable ISO. Please see it for more information. So, again, please edit your first post, delete your Last Session.ini and please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
