-X- and 5eraph, I am understanding. And -X-, I was asking how would I know that a Tweak or removal deleted files just looking at the nLite.inf. I would not care for my test run. Thanks much for both of your responses. Enjoy, John.
-
benbenno, you are welcome. Have fun! John.
-
-X-, thanks. Great idea, but how do you know that some files were not removed? Enjoy, John.

benbenno, there are three free virtual systems (VirtualBox, VirtualPC and VMware Server) that most use. I use VMware Server because it was the only one to support XP x64 at the time I needed a VM. Today VirtualBox supports x64 also. VMware Server is by far the largest (maybe greater than 500 MB while the others are in the 30-40 MB range). You DL the system and install it on your host. You then open a manager/configurator in the virtual system and create a Virtual Machine, defining disk space, memory size, etc. The Windows you want to test is then installed on the VM just as you would on a real machine. You should be able to install from an ISO file and not have to burn a CD/DVD. Please visit the sites associated with the systems and do some reading - perhaps DL the user guides. Hope this helps. Enjoy, John.

joew, I use TweakUI but am not very knowledgeable about it. I suspect it will show all users, but don't know. Give it a try on your VM by creating a bunch of accounts. I would also think simply going to Control Panel/User Accounts will show them. You may need to be on an account with administrator privileges. Enjoy, John.
-
joew, so, does that mean you are able to hide your logon? BTW, TweakUI is a great utility for doing these kinds of things. It is a free DL. Enjoy, John.

subecku, some have reported success and some not with recovery CDs. I suggest you search this forum for threads on using recovery CDs. Good luck, John.

5eraph, I am really curious to know how you knew this. I did some looking/searching and could get no traction. Thanks, John.

joew, your Last Session.ini is in your source folder and in the Presets folder of the Program Files\nLite folder by date code. You will also find it in the ISO if you extract it - will be the source folder. Enjoy, John.
-
joew, what value are you setting the DWORD to zero for? It should be your account name because Userlist is a key not a value. I have the key (Windows install created by nLite, XP x64) and when I use the utility TweakUI to show and hide the Administrator account, a value of Administrator shows up with a DWORD value of zero or is deleted. So, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

theflyingoreo, if you have the Ultimate Edition of W7, it has XP mode virtual support. I don't know/use W7 but you should do some research. I suspect Slipping SP2 on W7 directly will not work. Enjoy, John.

anichtien, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini file, even in Chinese. It is found in your source folder after running nLite and also in the Presets folder in the nLite folder in the Program Files folder. Also, please ask your question in Chinese and I will translate using Google. Enjoy, John. anichtien,请附上甚至在中国(不粘贴)你最后Session.ini文件。发现在您的源文件夹后运行还表现在在Program Files文件夹nLite夹预置文件夹nLite。另外,请提出你的问题在中国

anichtien, sorry, I have no idea what this error is saying. Please translate the message to English. Thanks, John. EDIT: Perhaps a problem with an AddOn - wrar390sc.7z? Try removing it. Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

xman, Google can be your friend, or not, here. This link shows how to change the Start button in several ways, but perhaps not like you want to do. I have changed the text on mine but nothing else. Changing the theme sometimes changes the text. It seems these things are not simple. Basically you have to use a Resource Editor to edit explorer.exe and replace the appropriate bitmaps. More Googling may be more fruitful for you. Once you have explorer.exe like you want it, you simply place it in the $$ folder in the $OEM$ folder - the easy part. Enjoy, John.

CSF, using another program, such as RVM Integrator with nLite is asking for trouble. You should be able to add the Update Pack to the nLite Hot Fix section. Enjoy, John.

spicychicken, nice to hear from you again. One of the drawbacks of VM testing is little driver verification. I was able to test my printer driver on VMware Server because I could attach the printer to the VM via the USB port. It is true that the F6 type drivers need to be tested in real hardware. In my case, I built (and tested on VM) two versions of XP x64 and both installed the first time on the real HW, two different machines. They were not bug free but mostly good-to-go due to the VM testing. I have most of my applications installed, theme set, IE8 installed and customized to my liking, and more. Enjoy, John.

pierre007, I have not seen this error before. Running nLite under Vista to create an ISO for XP is a problem sometimes, especially when you integrate a Service Pact. Can you run under XP? So, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

andreyvul, what does this mean? Why is the source extracted? The Tweak "Explorer-Launch folder windows in a separate process" exposes a Windows bug and needs to be removed. It is not the source of your problem. I searched arhidfltr.sys on the MSDN site and found that it is part of the Away Mode of MCE of XP, so again I ask, "where did the source come from?" I do not have one of these files in my source (XP x64). I do have hidserv.dll in my Driver CAB. The first file is a driver for the Away Mode. Notice the first characters of hidserv.dll is HID. Why does your source not have this file? Is your source a hacked up MCE or something? Enjoy, John.
-
TheLing, please go ahead and attach your Last Session in Chinese. Enjoy, John.
-
andreyvul, does your USB mouse work? Does it have a special driver - I see no driver? Can you run nLite under XP? Please attach your latest Last Session. Where did your source come from? Did it already have SP3? If not, how did you add it? Enjoy, John.
-
CSF, there are two clear problems. You have updates for IE8 and WMP11 and neither are installed. Also, you should get no integration errors with the updates. Some updates do not integrate and you can search these forums by KB numbers to see if you have found two. I suggest you look for an Update Pack to your liking at RayanVM forum. You also need an AddOn for IE8. WMP11 can be installed using the WMP11 Slipstreamer by booogy (see these forums). You just install WMP11 Slipstreamer on your system then include the WMP11 installer (from MS DL site) and updates into the nLite hot fix section. Good luck, John.

5eraph, I don't think using a different ISO creator will help. I think Meadow needs a smaller ISO. Meadow, unfortunately there are a number of questions. Are you using nLite? Is the Windows source a recovery CD? Did the CD come with the Eee? I suspect you are in a bind because I suspect the CD is not for the Eee and it may not be legal to install it on the Eee. Please tell us where the CD came from and if you have a CD that came with the Eee. We will take a look, so, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
-
TheLing, I really do not understand what you have done. You cannot use F6 with nLite unless you have disabled OEM Preinstall - see help next to OEM Preinstall in the Unattended section. Your driver will be corrupted. One of the real powers of nLite is to be able to include your text mode drivers and not need to use F6 during installation. Please tell us again what you have done and, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
-
CSF, unless you selected the Option in nLite to not save the Last Session, it will be in your source folder after you run nLite. It is always saved in the Presets folder in the nLite folder of Program Files, by date/time code. Please go ahead and post it when you find it. You need only one SP, (normally the latest, SP3) no matter what you start with. The article (assuming it is the same as I looked at before), applies only to a running system. Enjoy, John.

andreyvul, please delete your Last Session from your first post - what a mess. You are running nLite under Vista to create an XP ISO. This can cause problems sometimes. You have removed 'Windows CE USB Host'. Maybe this is your problem. Anyway, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
