  1. temp11111, I am curious why you are asking that question in the nLite forum since you have specifically said without nLite Tool? There is a Driver and an Unattended sub-forum here that may be helpful to you. Good luck, John.
  2. karlos4, do you have a Last Session.ini? If so, please attach it, if not, please say so. It is found in the source folder you created and in the C:\Program Files\nLite\Presets. What is "xpcopy folder"? You should start with an empty folder and have nLite copy the Windows CD into the empty folder. Are you copying your files/folders from your running machine? Enjoy, John. EDIT: Have you read the Guides here?
  3. karlos4, what folder? Please attach your Last Session as requested in RED above. Enjoy, John.
  4. Sylver123, that is correct, and there is an option in nLite Options Task (Save a copy of your current configuration on the ISO). The default is Enabled, just disable it. I would point out that for future reference it is best to keep it around. Enjoy, John.
  5. Sylver123, I run XP x64, so cannot answer specific questions about XP updates. Ultimately, you should get all your updates from Windows Download Center. That is where the people who build Update Packs get them. There are many threads here and on RayanVM that discuss XP SP3 updates, including lists. There is also a tool found on these forums called Windows Update Downloader (WUD) that you can use if you insist on using individual updates instead of a pack. Please do some searching. Enjoy, John.
  6. Sylver123, I think no. I DLed from your link and used 7-Zip to decompress and got the files you said. I then DLed the real KB and did the same and got very similar files. I then extracted the KB at the command line with the /X:path switch and got an entirely differ set of files. Please attached - this looks like an update. There are many ways to get updates for use in nLite, but I don't think this is one of them. Probably the most convenient is an Update Pack as found on RayanVM forum. Please do some searching here and there. Enjoy, John.
  7. yellowsnow4free, did you do this? Seems to me that two out of three is not bad. You took out Ethernet (LAN) - candidate? Take a look. Get the Internet working, then take out IE and whatever, testing to be sure you are OK. Enjoy, John.
  8. yellowsnow4free, yep, you have taken out too much: Internet Explorer Core Automatic Updates (Services) Color Schemes These are just guesses. I suggest you go into nLite-Components and look at the text displayed when you mouse over each component you have removed. Enjoy, John.

I think most of the tweaks are in nLite.inf, compressed into NLITE.IN_ in the I386 or AMD64 folder. Enjoy, John.
  10. kasimalli, there is a difference between inserting your key during install and Activating Windows. You will know when you activate because it is done via a wizard and will ask a number of question. To do a Windows install you must have, and insert a valid key. Yours is indeed an OEM key. You should not activate Windows under VirtualPC especially if you are running the same copy (and same key) as on your host. MS will not accept this and it may cause you some real problem explaining to MS. Usually you have 30 days to activate Windows after an install (you still need to insert the key during install). I run VMware Server and test my ISO before I install. I place my key into the Unattended Task of nLite and am done with it. I never Activate under my VM. I will activate my copy running on my HW if I run out of the 30 day period. In order to try to help you with your reboot problem, we need to see a real Last Session. Please do not paste it (or some portion) here, but attach the entire Last Session.ini. Some reboot loops are caused by not having installed text mode drivers, so we need to know what kind of drive you are trying to install on. Is it a RAID or a SATA HDD? On the matter of drivers, I would recommend that you go to your computer vendor's DL site and get copies of all the latest drivers. I have played with the driver saver type SW but am not impressed with them and am not sure they even can get the text mode drivers. Enjoy, John.
  11. DzigiBau, GREAT! I add my thanks to Sp0iLedBrAt's. It would never have occurred to me to consider language. Great work! Thanks again, John.
  12. MerijnB, you are welcome. Enjoy, John.
  13. yellowsnow4free, it cannot be a "universal install disk" since it is a recovery CD and therefore an OEM version of Windows which can be installed on one and only one computer. Please read the EULA. Enjoy, John.
  14. yellowsnow4free, all good questions, but do us a favor and Full Edit your post and change the title to something like "nLite a Dell Reinstall CD". The answer is more difficult. Please do some searching here for recovery CDs. It may work and it may not. You may need to do some testing, preferable in a virtual environment. VMware Server, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are all free. I have never used a recovery CD, but in general you cannot install Windows without a CD key. You can leave it out of the nLite Unattended Task, but it may well ask you for it later. If you are hinting that you do not have a key or you want to install Windows on a PC that is not the one the CD came with, then that violates the Windows EULA and we cannot help you here. Windows will only install drivers actually needed by the HW. Using nLite you can include the necessary drivers, then delete the driver file (nLite Options) after install saving the space. I would recommend that you get the latest copies of the drivers from the Dell DL site and use nLite to load them. Please be careful what you remove using nLite. Restoring a needed component later is difficult if not impossible. Enjoy, John.
  15. cogitocn, in general it is not easy to replace a removed component and most should assume that once it is removed, a rebuild/reinstall is needed. I copied all the *.in* files from my AMD64 folder and extracted all of them. I then searched for cisvc.exe and found a number of files referring to it. The .inf file that installs the Indexing Service is setupqry.inf. I attach a screen shot of all the files I found. I looked at all, but could make little sense of any but setupqry.inf. I am not sure what to suggest at this time. If you are brave, you could copy the cisvc.exe file to your System32 folder and then right click setupqry.inf and click Install. After a restart, maybe Indexing Service will be available. Check in the Services page of MMC to see. If you try such, I would recommend that you create a System Restore point before you start. I would also suggest that you take a look at all the other files I found and see if you can make sense of them. I am running XP x64, assuming you are running XP, the files will be in the I386 folder. Most are compressed into *.XX_. Seems like you mentioned running a VM. If so, try running a VM with all your nLite settings except don't remove Indexing Service and see if your search works OK. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
  16. cogitocn, OK, I understand better. I looked at the IFilter site and read this Perhaps this is implying that Indexing Service is needed. I am not inclined to DL and install it on my system, so I suggest you seek a forum or the Support section of the CHM IFilter site. I am suspecting Sp0iLedBrAt is correct and Indexing Service is needed. Enjoy, John.
  17. cogitocn, is this an old nLite run? I see you are using version 1.4.5 Beta 2. You should be using 1.4.9.1. I also see you have not integrated SP3 - old or some other reason? Attached is a screen shot of the nLite page for removing H&S. I don't think it is the problem but then I don't understand what "CHM Ifilter in dtsearch" is. I have removed Indexing Service and have no problem with .chm files that I am aware. If you will explain to me what I have to do to invoke "CHM Ifilter in dtsearch", I will try it and let you know. Enjoy, John.
  18. Pookey, yes. When SP3 is added to a running Windows computer there are different requirements and some seem to think it applies to slipstreaming. It does not. Many here have reported slipping SP3 into RTM Enjoy, John.
  19. MerijnB, that is the Auto Login information I told you about in my first reply. The PW is in plain text in the Registry. I have attached a test nLite.inf with the secret data all ???. I define a user account with administrator privileges and auto log it. I also set an Administrator PW (does not show in the .inf). I also attach my Last Session_u.ini with the real stuff obscured. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I was wondering what your keys did (assumed they implemented the link you provided) and found this. EDIT: In the Unattended Guide (see below) is this timeline. A single command can be executed at T-39 (long before SVCPACK and cmdlines). This is called DetachedProgram and is described here. This may be too early, but I suggest you give it a test.
  20. lgchristianson, yes, I found this via a search here. Please attach your Last Session, as request in RED at the top. Enjoy, John.
  21. cogitocn, I am not familiar with what you are trying to do, but we need to see your Last Session. Please attach it as requested in RED above. Enjoy, John.
  22. MerijnB, take a look at nLite.inf (will be NLITE.IN_ in your I386 or AMD64 folder). This is where the user account is created and the PW set. There is a call to Net1 command to do this. I do not know about the Administrator account and PW. I use Auto Login and I do see the Admin PW in my Winnt.sif file. I need to do some more looking to learn more. For you, I recommend some testing (hope you are using a virtual system) to see what works and what does not. Have you created a user account and if so, does your hash method deal with its PW OK? If not, perhaps placing your Registry updates into the nLite.inf (above the account creation) file will work. Let us know what you learn and I will also. Enjoy, John.
  23. MerijnB, I do not have an answer for you but it is an interesting question and I will think about it. Since the PWs input via nLite appear in plain text in the ISO and CD, my plan is to start with simple PWs, then change them after install. I suspect this would allow your new hash to be used in the new PW and your real PW would never be laying about in plain text. If you are using auto login set up by nLite, this places your PW into the Registry in plain text. Just using auto login will expose your PW to people that know how to use LSA secrets. Here is a link to the auto login threads. Enjoy, John.
  24. RadioActiveLamb, Welcome to the formum and thanks for your Last Session. Is that Server 2008 R2 you are using to run nLite? I know it is not W2000. I suspect that is your problem. We know that running nLite under Vista or W7 to create an XP ISO does not work if a service pack is being integrated. Can you run under W2000 of at least a W2000 VM on your system? Enjoy, John.
  25. This thread got my curiosity up, so I did some searching. LIP is the same as MUI (Multilanguage User Interface). BTW, if my train goes completely off the track and into the ditch, someone please rescue me. MUI is not sold Retail, only to VLK holders. The MUI for XP is 6 CDs. One is a normal English copy of Windows XP and the others contain the languages. Executing MUISetup.exe on any of the CDs will get the process of installation started. There are silent, unattended methods available, as well as the capability to install from a Command Prompt. I assume this means that it could be integrated with the install or through the nLite Unattended RunOnce exit. Please see here and here for more information. Dzuro, please remember that the nLite license allows only personal use. Enjoy, John.
