OK,thanks again. Please see my EDITs above if you have not. My current msxml6.dll is version 6.20.2003.0, msxml6r.dll is 6.0.3883.0. This is for both 64 and 32 bit versions of each. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, here and on VM. Took all install defaults, including C:\ directory. Hope you enjoy your evening. Thanks, John.

maxXPsoft, thanks much for your reply. Thought so about the WAIK, but tried it anyway. I have tried the .new to .dat and deleted the .ini. Same results and no .ini created. I have DLed and tried 6.2.2 as well as latest (6.2.3) - same. Not sure what you mean by 'error log' but my System Log (Event Viewer) is clean. Any other log to look into? With the Task Manager open, I can see no activity. The process count does not change and I see no new process being added - could just be a sampling thing though. I did not remove any MS scripting as far as I know. Attached is my Last Session so you can see what I did remove. How about a service? Any thing to look at in the Registry for a hint? I am trying to think what is different between my real machine and my VM. It opens just fine on my VM (XP x64, SP2, no updates, no .Net, no nLite). Thanks, John.EDIT: I just DLed the MS Scripting installer and extracted it. I have the cscript.exe and wscript.exe (32 bit) on my system. Mine is 5.6.0.8832 and the DLed one is 5.7.0.16535. Make a difference? I use cscript.exe during install to set my paging file size, so I know it used to work. Another EDIT: On my VM, I used Process Explorer to look at 7UA. For the stack it showed: I run a modified ntoskrnl.exe but by a different name. The original remains in the System32 folder. Can this be a problem?

I cannot get Se7en_UA to start on my real XP x64 machine. I have DLed and installed under XP x64 on a VM under VMware Server and it opens just fine. I am looking at the help files but do not have W7 there to actually try something. I have tried many things on my real machine with not luck. When I attempt to open the application, a brief hourglass appears and goes away. I previously had RT7Lite installed, so I also had WAIK (W7) installed. I removed both of these programs. I got lots of complaints from the Comodo Internet Security (CIS), so I unplugged my modem and stopped it including using msconfig to stop it from loading on restart. I have removed, restarted, reinstalled several times. All of these things failed to allow Se7en_UA to start. I have run out of things to try, and hope someone can help. Thanks in advanced. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Some additional information: I tried using 'Run as...' under Administrator and same results. My real system is an nLited (using Kurt_Aust's guide) XP x64 with SP2 and all current updates. I installed an unmodified XP x64 (with SP2) under VM. In my real machine, I do have some services disabled/stopped (Black Viper's guide). If 7UA needs certain services to run, then please advise and I will get them running. EDIT Again: After some more looking and experimenting: 7UA was installed taking all defaults. I do not have a Appswitch.dat folder. I have tried most if not all the combinations of Appswitch.new, Appswitch.dat files and none of them with Se7en_UA.ini file deleted and there. Appswitch.new retains its name and Se7en_UA.ini remains empty.

RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Zumoc, nLite supports only XP and W2000 and W2003, not Vista (vLite) of W7. I do use nLite for building my XP x64 system, but I am moving to W7. Enjoy, John. -
RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
bensam56, I am very sorry to hear you will not support XP x64. It seems to run somewhat. I would hope you would reconsider. Thanks, John. -
RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
this bug is fixed in upcoming version Thanks, bensam56. I reported earlier that I had the problem when I opened RT7Lite of the "Loading..." and the window behind wanting to DL WAIK (It is installed). After reading one of your replies on the RT Forum, I searched for wimmount.sys and found one in my System32\driver folder but none in my SysWoW64\driver folder. I copied the first one into the second and it got rid of the open problem. Why was there none in my SysWoW64\driver folder or why is RT7Lite checking for one there if the install did not put one there? I hope this is also fixed in your next release. I tried to do some other Tasks with several problems/questions. On the Unattended page it said that I could set the Workgroup name, but I found no place to do it. Very basically, It looks like RT7Lite is modifying files in the original folder. Is it OK to run RT7Lite more than once against this same folder of should I always start with a fresh copy of the DVD (what I tell people on the nLite forum.) What do I have to do to be sure I do not have unmounted images? I looked in the Registry and found two after some testing. When do you expect to release your next version? Please let me know if I can help test under XP x64. Thanks for application and the help. Enjoy, John. -
RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
RT 7 Lite under XP x64 bensam56, I received my copy of W7 Ultimate x64 and opened RT7Lite against it. It went well for a while then gave the error in the attached screen shot. I hit OK and got another of the same error. Another OK and RT7Lite continued. I proceeded directly to ISO-Bootable and created an ISO. It was booted into a VM guest in VMware Server. All went well on the install and it seems to run OK, although I have little experience with it. I did discover that Aero is not available because the video card/driver does not support it. This, I guess, is a VMware short coming. I will continue to experiment, but would like to know if this is a fatal error or processing can continue. Thanks for your help. Enjoy, John. -
kenlau, yours looks just like mine, except I do not have .NET 20SP2. Maybe you have a bum KB958481. The size (not size on disk) is 19,282,272 bytes and the hashes are: Check yours please and see if they agree. At the top of Kurt_Aust's first page is some options. One is: Please take a look at this and the other comments about .NET. When you watch the batch file run, do you see KB958481 being executed? It is large and should take some time. Do you see this? Any errors? Enjoy, John.

unisev, I use DVD+R/W and quit making coasters. Like Sp0iLedBrAt my ISO is large (>3 GB) and I have reused DVDs many times and never had a problem. As he said, you can test drivers under a VM only in a limited way. I have a USB attached printer and was able to test the drivers under VM (VMware Server). Except for drivers, I have ever found behavior different under VM and HW. I have not used VirtualBox, but my display configuration works just fine after Windows installs. It does look funny during install (small). I did have problems with the ISO creator in nLite when it got over about 2 GB and now I always use ImgBurn (free) to create ISO and burn DVD. Enjoy, John.

lordemperor, you might try adding the following line to the nLite.inf file, where xxxxx is your domain name. The file will be found in your I386 (or AMD64) folder compressed into NLITE.IN_. Extract (I use 7-Zip), add the line, then do a makecab on it and put it back into the folder before you create an ISO. Also, please respond to Sp0iLedBrAt's reply about using nLite in a non-private environment. The nLite license agreement does not permit business use. Enjoy, John.

doveman, the best way to accomplish what you are trying (both) is to start over with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, use you previous Last Session and add/delete whatever you want. Messing around with folder contents of a previous nLite run and adding hot fixes is just asking for major problems. Enjoy, John.
-
kenlau, please attach your batch file (please purge any private information) and we will take a look. Please also take a look at the first page of the thread. In his batch code Kurt_Aust shows both .NET 2.0 and 3.5. I only include the 3.5 installer, so maybe you should not include both. If that is what you are doing, that may be the problem. Enjoy, John.

RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Zumoc, I DLed that one, checked the hash and it is the same one I am using. Perhaps it contains all the latest of 10, 11, etc and just installs what is supported by the OS. After reading a little more, I suspect Kurt_Aust extracted the file to be able to do a silent install via the /Silent switch. Enjoy, John. -
RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Zumoc, I am curious about DirectX versions. I get the impression that W7 comes with DirectX version 11. I am currently using XP x64 and install DirectX Version 9C, which is Feb 2010. This is the latest available for XP. Are you talking about this one? What DirectX version do you have on your W7 system now? BTW, I use the batch file from the Kurt_Aust thread on installing XP x64, and the code is: The %Source% simply points to the installation drive. I am not sure why he extracts it to the temporary file, but it may be because DirectX writes into the installation folder, which won't work on an optical drive or simply that it can't be executed from the DL file itself. Enjoy, John. -
unisev, I am not familiar enough with Services to judge if that is the problem. Please spend some time at this Black Viper site to see if that may be your problem. As I stated (and asked) before, you should not run nLite more than once against the same source folder. If you did this on the failing run, that may well be the problem. Enjoy, John.

Allubz, thanks much for reporting. Glad you are running and you are welcome. Enjoy, John.

Need help with win7 TimeZone and activation
johnhc replied to grabby's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
grabby, I run XP x64 but have no experience with W7 yet. I think its structure is the same, however. My answers are for XP x64, though. There is no System64. Strangely, all 64 bit executables go into System32 and 32 bit executables are in SysWoW64. The WoW stands for "Windows on Windows" and is the 32 bit emulation on the 64 bit platform. I use one VBS script in my installation of XP x64 and it is in System32 folder. Enjoy, John. -

I want registry for Search option in right click?
johnhc replied to nice_guy75's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
nice_guy75, I use AutoIt in XP x64 install and it is a very powerful tool. You can run programs from it as well a reading and writing Registry entries. It is fairly easy to use, has good online documentation and best of all is free. Enjoy, John. -
RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
The simple answer is MS Virtual PC doesn't support x64 clients never has done, Try VirtualBox. Virtualbox works but was iffy last I tried VirtualBox-3.1.4-57640-Win, Vmware workstation works excellent with 64 Edit: iffy with usb jumpdrives but may have improved by now and VirtualBox is free I use VMware Server under XP x64 but have no experience yet with W7. The VMware forum indicates that a W7 guest can be run as Vista VM (i.e, select Vista (32 or 64) as OS when configuring a VM). I also have seen people there talking about installing VMware Server in a W7 host. The real advantage to VMware Server is that it is free. Enjoy, John. -
wildthing4, use of nLite, including drivers, is discussed in this forum. I have posted earlier how to extract the drivers and use them. Please read my post, answer my questions and then ask specific questions concerning any problem(s) you still have. Enjoy, John.
-
wildthing4, I have managed to extract the drivers from the MB chipset. The trick is to run the DLed .exe in a command prompt with switches of " -A -A" (without the quotes, notice the blank before and between). This will extract the drivers into a folder called InfInst inside the Intel folder in your Program Files folder. From here you can decide which driver(s) you need and point nLite to it/them. You still have not answered most of my questions (Pid in the setupp.ini file, etc). There are several sound and wireless drivers and we need to know which hardware you have. I really want to see a Last Session file, even if you make another nLite run just for that purpose. When you run nLite, please always start with a fresh copy of the CD files/folders and run nLite only once against it. Testing under VM is a great idea and allows you to post screen shots even of the install errors you might get. Knowing your specific Gateway model, I will take another look at the link you provided. Remember, please that more imformation is much better than less. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I hope you have seen the newer nLite Guide in the Stickies, above. EDIT: I just DLed the video drivers and extracted the .exe with 7-Zip with no problems - no tricks required. You can DL all the drivers and extract them as needed and point nLite to them. There is a modem driver, if you ever use dial-up, or you can go into the BIOS and disable this modem. It would be OK to place all the sound and wireless drivers into the mix using nLite. Windows Setup will only include the drivers into your installed Windows that have corresponding HW. I need to warn you that I have an obligation this afternoon and will probably not be responding after an hour or so.

Finding the differences in the Registry
johnhc replied to pollop's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
I use RegShot on my XP x64 system and it is very useful. Take a shot, then make a change and take a second shot. The program then compares the two and creates .reg files to Do and Redo. This site says it is compatible with W7. Enjoy, John. -
wildthing4, I am not going to fight with you and I am sure when it comes to legal matters, you know much more than I about these aspect of things. The fact is that the forum rules restrict us from helping people who are violating the forum rules or laws. I am certainly not an MS employee and doubt anyone else kind enough to donate their time here is either. As I said earlier, we will be glad to help. Please answer the questions that I asked in my first reply, attach your Last Session (as requested in bold RED letters above) and we will do our best to help. I should point out that the key and CD need to agree. Both would need to be retail, in this case. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I took a look at the web site and have some more questions: What model laptop do you have - 9520303.exe - Gateway 600YG2, 600YGR, 450SX4, 400SD4? What kind of HDD (SATA, PATA, AHCI), video, Sound, modem, and wireless? What kind of BIOS file was it asking for? Please give us more details about the install errors you get. Tomorrow I will try to extract the MB drivers I DLed.
-
wildthing4, please don't cook the cat. I am afraid we are hard pressed to help you, since it sounds like what you (and your friend) are doing is a violation of the MS license agreement. What kind of legal XP Pro key do you have? What kind of CD does your friend offer? Please post the Pid value in the setupp.ini file on the CD (open with notepad). Unless yours is a Retail key, it is not legal to use it except on the original machine it was installed on. I am very sorry for your damaged home and machines, but it would seem to be an insurance problem at this time. Your insurance company should replace the machines and the OSs to go with them. What happened to the OS that came with the laptop? Usually it comes with a recovery CD or partition and the appropriate drivers to get the machine back up. Was it burned also in the fire? Newer machine come with a recovery partition on the HDD and therefore should be intact even if the current installed OS is damaged. Perhaps you can get the insurance company to quickly allow you to buy an OEM CD to install on the laptop. We can certainly help you there. What was the original OS on the laptop? Sometime newer machine with Vista present a real problem finding XP drivers. Good luck and please let us know where you stand. John.
