maxXPsoft, Real Progress! I finished with no errors, cut an ISO (with ImgBurn) and booted it on my VM. I quickly got an invalid product key - thought 7UA never asked for a key and all Xs in the Autounattend.xml. Perhaps I have found the right combination of CIS settings. I placed Se7en_UA.exe on the Installer/Updater list. I tried to start over at first by copying from the DVD but kept getting an error from robocopy that no destination was specified (see attach screen shot). The jpg file also contains my last screen in 7UA. It did say I have one unsigned driver, so I need to determine how to specify force. I am continuing to experiment and learn. Thanks, John. EDIT: Installs and runs fine after I stuck the default key into the Autounattend.xml.

maxXPsoft, When I ran that, I had CIS installed, closed and guard32.dll renamed. I can't think of what permissions it is talking about. I don't think anything mounted. The Registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\wimmount\Mounted Images) is empty as is zMountDir. I looked in SysWow64 folder and did not have wimmount.sys, so at least 7UA did not put it there. Outstanding question: maxXPsoft, I am sorry, I got lost somewhere. I do not know what you are asking. I am a subscriber to what (CIS forum)? Approval for what? I have submitted an e-mail support request and posted two (cheating) threads on the forum and gotten several not very helpful replies. I am going to do some testing today. Thanks, John. Thanks much for your time. I really appreciate it. Enjoy, John.

rickyfx, also, update to the latest nLite (1.4.9.1). DL it only from the nLite web site. Enjoy, John.

fdlchris, you have removed OOBE. Please see the attached screen shot of the nLite page discussing this. When you put your key into the Unattended section, you just prevent Windows Setup from asking it for during install. As the screen shot says, if you don't have a Corporate version, you will still need to activate your copy of Windows before 30 days is up. I looked in my System32\OOBE (XP x64) folder and it has over 1.5 MB of files and folders. If you are really into Windows, you can look at the oobe.inf (compressed into OOBE.IN_) on your original CD and try restoring OOBE. I suspect the work required would be more than simply starting over and not removing OOBE. Good luck, John.

Chobitx, thanks for the Last Session, but you edited out the top part which is very important to us. Please attach the unedited one. As I said in my first reply, since you did not remove WMI and Terminal Services (which your Last Session confirms), the fact that they are gone is bad news. Your problems are probably worse than you think. There is no sense in even trying to restore them if they should not be gone. So, please tell us, as requested in my first reply, where did your source come from? Has it been nLited before? Have you run nLite against it more than once? Enjoy, John.

maxXPsoft, thanks, I think I am getting a real error. I have read your first several posts and even looked through all the posts here. I have also made my way through all your help text. All of this was done before I attempted to run UA7. I will spend some more time in your first post before I try again. I have another suggestion from CIS and will try that too. Have you read my previous reply, #400? Please do, including the EDIT. I still do not understand the question you asked me earlier. Thanks, John.

I am running XP x64 with SP2 and all current critical updates and IE8. Off and on for some time I cannot login without clearing my cookies and cache. During a reply attempt today, it took three logins to complete. Without leaving the site I found myself logged out when I tried to reply once today. It seems to be worse today, thus this topic. Hope there is some help for us. Thanks, John.

maxXPsoft, the messages came for the dism.log - should have said. It looked like to me that the mount went fine and the unmount went fine, according to what I saw in the CMD prompt - I did get the messages you posted. I did not understand why it was unmounting, since I had done nothing really, except click the Copy DVD box. When it was finished unmounting, the main screen came back and the only two boxes available (not grayed out) were the Add right Click .wim (which I did) and the Addon - Create $OEM$ Folders (which I did not). I was looking to add drivers and updates, but I could not click the boxes. Perhaps this was just a total lack of understanding on my part. Please don't do any testing on this problem - probably just beginners ignorance. Thanks for your help, John. EDIT: Failed to say - I am running a lightly nLited XP x64 with SP2 and all current critical updates. I will attach my Last Session if you like. BTW, see this above? maxXPsoft, I am sorry, I got lost somewhere. I do not know what you are asking. I am a subscriber to what (CIS forum)? Approval for what? I have submitted an e-mail support request and posted two (cheating) threads on the forum and gotten several not very helpful replies. I am going to do some testing today. Thanks, John. EDIT: There is a work around for the CIS problem preventing 7UA from starting. It is to rename guard32.dll. This works on my VM, but I have not run the program past startup because I do not have the files required on VM. Here is the Comodo thread discussing the problem. EDIT: Definitely my BAD! I did not realize I had to check the box(s) offered, instead of only the ones I wanted. I skipped what I could, then went to Pack Image and got the following the attached error. I am dead tired and will quit for the night. Thanks much!

Using the CIS work around above, I tried to run 7UA to completion. So far not getting there. I have run multiple times with various settings of and responses to CIS, finally with CIS closed and the DLL renamed. The DVD (File) is copied, mounted, Get Features, Get Packages, then the image is unmounted. I see these errors in the dism.log: zPackagelist.txt and zFEATURES.TXT have no errors. I can find no relavent hits here on these errors. Anyone got an idea for me. I am running XP x64, UA7 6.2.4 against W7 x64 Ultimate. The errors mention "directory in online store". I have disconnected my modem because I have my security SW closed. Is this a problem? Thanks, John.

Can anyone tell me why this hangs?

MrJinje, thanks, now I know. Enjoy, John. -
Chobitx, you were asked to attach, not paste your Last Session. Please edit your last reply, delete the pasted text and ATTACH you Last Session. Enjoy, John.

JoeKickass, if you are using nLite for non-business and personal use only, then it is OK. Be sure to read the license agreement (found in the nLite folder in your Program Files folder) as suggested by Kelsenellenelvian. I use WPI (couple of forums down) to do what you want to do and many other things. The $OEM$ folder is also useful for copying files to various system folders but it will not work for accounts because it runs before the accounts are created. Enjoy, John.

Can anyone tell me why this hangs?
johnhc replied to grabby's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
grabby, I do not really understand how the 'FOR' command works, but I see some fundamental differences in your implementation and Kelsenellenelvian's: I think you need the \ after %i:, so maybe the search never is successful. I read in Help and Support that a single % is needed when run from the command prompt and a double if from a batch file. I guess you are alright there. I have no idea what the 'del %0' is about. Enjoy, John. -
maxXPsoft, perhaps you are on top of it. I do not have a BuildLabEx value, just a BuildLab set to 3790.srv03_sp2_qfe.090319-1204. I did a quick Google on BuildLabEx and all the hits seemed to be x86 - not thorough research. Is it not possible to use the environmental variable PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE=AMD64? Thanks, John.

maxXPsoft, guess I did not make it clear. I ran that today on my real machine with CIS removed. I had looked at the .inf files and saw where the copies were going, so I do not see how the files got into the SysWoW64 and SysWow64\driver folders. That would be:16425 = %SystemRoot%\SysWOW64 ;(x64 systems only) instead of 11. I think I know the basics about System32 and SysWoW64, and that is why I was surprised to find the 64 bit driver in the SysWow64 folder. Unfortunately I do think you need to take a look at this. Perhaps just looking at the code will be sufficient. I will be glad to give it a test if you like. If I get nerve to try again, I will install WAIK (W7) again or just try moving the driver and wimserv.exe. The Registry key looks OK, value 'ImagePath' is 'system32\DRIVERS\wimmount.sys' in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WIMMount. The other values in the .inf are there also. Thanks again, John.

maxXPsoft, I am back and becoming a pain in the .... I had been thinking about running 7UA after removing CIS, even before you recommended it. This is the only way I could get it to run on my VM. I removed CIS, removed 7UA,rebooted and installed 7UA in the root of the E:\ partition. The DVD (really from a file I had copied some time ago) copy went OK (one skipped file - OK?) but the mount failed because wimmount.sys was not installed, same as the screen shot I posted before. I searched for it and it is in my SysWoW64\driver folder but not in the System32\driver folder. It is the same one as in your Tools\amd64 folder, the larger of the two. The larger wimserv.exe (x64) is in the SysWow64 folder. Ideas? Thanks, John.

maxXPsoft, thanks again for your time. I had removed WAIK (W7) many boots before running 7UA. The problem along with all others now may well be caused by CIS. I am working toward getting that resolved and think it is not worth our time to worry too much about the errors I got in my attempt. Since I understand CIS Sandbox a little better, it cannot be used to run 7UA. At least we are learning about 7UA and CIS. Thanks, John.

Thanks, maxXPsoft. I now remember where I saw the term VritualRoot. There was some discussion on the Comodo forum about the spelling. The C:\VritualRoot is associated with CIS and its Sandbox. Since I had to run it in the Sandbox, I guess it copied all the stuff to this folder. The wimmount.sys is in there also. The term Huer.pck.yoda@-1 is the name of the malware CIS is blaming on Se7en_UA.exe and those .tmp folders. I have opened a ticket and a forum thread on Comodo. Any idea on why I got the old WAIK message? Is it OK to install 7UA on my E:\ root instead of the system root? Is the skipped file OK? I used to use Avast, but went to CIS to get away from worrying about two different programs. Thanks, John.

Chobitx, it is very difficult if not impossible to restore a removed component. And, if you did not check them, then they should not have been removed and points to a much more serious problem. I suspect you have run nLite more than once against the same source or started with a bum source. So, please attach your Last Session, as requested above in bold RED , and tell us where your source came from. Enjoy, John.

Velvis, it is my understanding that Server 2008 is based on Vista. NLite supports only W2000, W2003 and XP (32 and 64 bit on all, I think). VLite is a similar program for Vista. Its Forum is just below this one. There are also Unattended Forums here that discuss W2008. Good luck, John.

maxXPsoft, OK, CIS is the problem! After installing, the AV goes off on Huer.pck.yoda@-1 and puts Se7en_UA.exe in the sandbox. Even though I told it to ignore the problems and moved Se7en_UA.exe to my safe list, 7UA still does not start. I am going to take a walk now, think a little and go at it later. Sorry about all the fuss. I will report when I get a work around. Thanks much, John. EDIT: This is turning into quite a fiasco. CIS is complaining about temp files, such as C:\Se7en_UA\is-7IDCD.tmp, C:\Se7en_UA\is-K0H48.tmp, C:\Se7en_UA\is-Q7OH2.tmp and C:\Se7en_UA\is-KCLBJ.tmp. After trying many things, I was able to get 7UA to open with CIS installed. It required me to run it in the Sandbox as Unrestricted - not attractive. I checked the Copy DVD box and it did the copy. There was one folder skipped - problem? Then I got "We have a Problem" about old WAIK being installed. The latest WAIK was removed when I first encountered the open problem. I clicked Yes and got an error that said wimmount.sys was not installed. I did a search and it was only in your folder - expected it to be in the System32\driver and SysWoW64\driver. When is it placed there? I went back to my VM, removed 7UA and CIS, restarted and installed UA7. Wimmount.sys was still not in the expected folders. Some of these problems are an understanding problem on my part and many are CIS problems. I will go to the CIS forum and see if I can get some answers. I see that you do the DVD copy to the C:\VritualRoot folder. It also looks like you will mount here. I would really prefer not to have these large files/folders on my system volume. Is it possible for me to have this placed on another partition? EDIT: What do I need to do to be able to start up again (delete C:\VritualRoot folder, etc), assuming I can get the CIS problems addressed? Thanks for all your help. Enjoy, John.

maxXPsoft, it is really bugging me too, but I think it is a problem on my system. As I said before, I installed my full nLited X64 on my VM. I then installed installed 7UA (6.2.2) and it opens right up. So, I am chasing the problem now and really appreciate your help. The only large difference is there is no security SW installed on my VM system. I will install CIS and see what happens. On the real machine, here is the bottom of my appswitch.dat (I renamed from .new): Attached is a screen shot of the 7UA folder. Thanks, John.
