Sgt. D. Pilla, OK. Just a guess: you might try using folder name WPI instead of WPI_Applications. Enjoy, John

Mike89, What you are looking for is the .inf file(s). Do a search on the extracted folder for file name *.inf. Hopefully this will show the file(s) you need to point nLite to. There may be more than one and you may need to decide which one(s) to use by the contents of the file. See what OS it applies to for instances. Other forum readers may have more input on how to pick which .inf files. Enjoy, John.

jmbattle, You are welcome, but did you mean to say , or no problems?I have not used VirtualBox because until a few days ago it did not support 64 bit guests. I am running XP x64. There is also VirtualPC offered free by MS. You might give it a try - both jonM and jmbattle. There is also VMware Server which works great (and Free!) for me but is huge compared to the other two. Go ahead and attach (not paste) you Last Session so all can take a look. Keeping after it is a great idea. nLite is a great tool but may take a little playing to understand it. Be sure you are always using a fresh source. I copied my CD to a folder and always make a copy before I start nLite. Enjoy, John.

Sgt. D. Pilla, You don't really have do you? Note the .hat! Enjoy, John.

gimpguy, I don't have a clue what you are doing wrong but if you look around you will see many people creating ISOs on a daily basic with NO problems. Giving up after one or two days gives you no opportunity to learn how to use nLite which is a very useful and stable tool. Good luck, John.

visa tapani, I'm using VMware Server because I am building XP x64 ISOs and it is the only free one that will will run x64 guests. I have not used the other two but I understand they are both much much smaller than VMware Server. I would suggest sticking with VirtualPC and getting used to it. All should run OEM copies of XP. I am running an OEM x64 with no problems. I put the CD key in at the Unattended stage of nLite. I suspect you have not found an nLite bug. The biggest problem most people seem to have is nLiteing the same source more than once. It is best to always start with a clean fresh copy of the original CD. I copied the CD into a folder and then make a copy of that before I start nLite. Good luck, John.

jmbattle, There are many hits on this error in Google including this MS KB. Have you looked at these. Have you tried an nLite installed with nothing removed or tweaked? Enjoy, John.

Cloaky, Great SS but when I click on it so I can read it, I am only sent to the ImageShack site and cannot see your image. I am not a member of that site nor do I care to be. How do I see your image to be able to read it? Perhaps you should post the file. Thanks, John. Edit: I did get it to work - my BAD! But what am I looking for? Is it not supposed to be in Portuguese? Please post (attach) your Last Session .ini file. BTW, I recommend you install VMware Tools - runs much better especially mouse performance.

Worf, What version of nLite are you using? What do you mean by 'exit' - just quits? Your computer crashes - if so post Stop code. We need more information, perhaps attach your Last Session file. Are you using a fresh source, i.e. it has not been nLited before? Good luck, John.
-
visa tapani, Have you tried a virtual install - e.g. VirtualPC, VirtualBox or VMware Server? Have you tried just the SP and hot fixes and no more nLite changes? Do you have an AMD processor? There is a problem with SP3 for AMD CPUs that causes a restart loop when SP3 is installed. I don't know how this effects an install but you might look at the Hotfix: Non-Intel. You might also try to hit F8 during restart and see if you can get into Safe Node. If you can, turn off the auto restart (My Computer-Properties-Advanced-Startup and Recovery-Settings) and see what the Stop code is. Good luck, John.

WPI won' start - white blank screen
johnhc replied to Puky70's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Puky70, Sorry, most of us can't read German. Can you translate it for us. Also, when I clicked on the image, I was taken to ImageShack but not your image. I was going to send it to a friend to translate but can't. Give us some help and we may be able to help you. Enjoy, John. -
desiderio, The yellow button next to Unattended means there are Unattended changes already in your source. Are you trying to nLite a source that is already nLited? If so, you are asking for a real mess and strange error messages. You must start with a clean un-nLited source except in some very special cases. Trying to add changes on top of changes is asking for trouble. Hope this helps. Enjoy, John.

XaHyMaH, I'm not sure what you are asking, but there is an option in nLite under Options called OEM Branding. This will add the list of tweaks to the Properties of My Computer. You can look at this after Windows is installed. Hope this helps, John.

[IMAGE HEAVY!] What would cause Add/Remove programs to be blank?
johnhc replied to Rapture2k4's topic in nLite
Rapture2k4, It looks like you are applying 32 bit Hotfixes and multiple times. First I think you should look at Kurt_Aust's post. I use his process for my XP x64 and get no errors. Errors should not be ignored. I don't know if that is the root of your problems but I suggest it needs to be corrected first. I see you are deleting directories DOCS and SUPPORT. My DOCS is empty but there are several MBs in my SUPPORT directory. You might try a build with it in place and see if that fixes the problems. I did a Google on 'blank add/remove' and got lots of hits including in these forums. I suggest you take a look. I don't really know what the stuff in SUPPORT does, do you - OK to remove? I hope others will take a look at your Last Session - I know little to nothing about lots of your items. Good luck, John. -
wpi v7.0 %reboot% hangs on XP x64

icnocop, Great! I'm glad it helped. You are welcome, John. -
[IMAGE HEAVY!] What would cause Add/Remove programs to be blank?
johnhc replied to Rapture2k4's topic in nLite
Rapture2k4, I assume you know that all the things (e.g. Hotfixes) you integrate in nLite will not show in Add/Remove. Why the other things don't show, I haven't a clue. Perhaps if you included your Last Session file someone could see something you removed that caused the problem. I have made many XP x64 ISOs and never seen the problem. I test under VMware Server and right now I have eleven items in Add/Remove - I think all of which are programs I have added. Enjoy, John. -
Gstorm, Is this key already in use? That is, is Windows installed on another machine using this key? Are you installing on a real machine or under a virtual environment? You might try using the Unattended section of nLite and entering the key here. There are several virtual environments for your system you might look into using - VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server come to mind. They are all free and are great for testing! Enjoy, John.

Ponch, Thanks. I thought that was where you were coming from. Did you notice I am running XP x64? I assume you are running a 32 bit OS? Does nuhi see these type of questions? I think if this worked it would make my running of VMware Server easier. My original CD is an OEM version purchased with my various parts from Newegg. Thanks, John.

TranceEnergy, It looks like avast! has a really good silent install feature, but it only applies to the Pro version. See silent installation in their Help file. Also see this post in the avast! forum. Enjoy, John.

Thanks for the responses. Ponch, here is the Options code from my LastSession and attached is a screen shot of the Options page in nLite. [Options] OemBranding DupeFiles ProfilesDir = "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings" TargetPath = "WINDOWS" temp_dir = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp AdvTweaks CDPromptRemove John

Anybody got any ideas? Anyone use this option and observe its working? Thanks, John.
-
mritter, I would like an option that would prevent accidentally starting the Installer on the machine I use to do my configuration. It could be turned off to allow testing but would prevent ignoring of the timer causing installation to start, for example. Thanks, John.

TranceEnergy and AlfonsoX, One reason to be careful about this is something I found (via Google) some time ago: Windows reuses DLLs that are in memory for all processes requesting them. When a DLL is UPXed, Windows does not recognize it and will therefore load it as many times as requested by processes. Saving a little disk space, requiring decompression time on each load, then getting multiple copies in memory did not seem to be worth any HDD space saved. HDD space is dirt cheap now and is only going to get cheaper. Enjoy, John.

TranceEnergy, Did you install the ActiveX or just the plugin? The Adobe notes said the old ActiveX must be removed. Just quoting them. Enjoy, John.

robfox, This has been answered here before! If you will do a Google search on 'stop 7e' you will find many hits including one from MS, telling you exactly what the problem is! Check it out. Enjoy, John.
