  1. HowdyDoody, Thanks for your response. I am not having trouble with installation just when I load a CD (image really) after installation. I am running under VMware Server and using an ISO file to install from, so I cannot re-burn. Thanks, John.
  2. I should mention that I do have Disable System File Checking (SFC) set. Would this cause my problem? Thanks, John.
  3. In my latest build, autorun no longer works when I load a CD. It worked before and I did not check 'Disable Autorun'. Also, my system does not display the icon for the CD but if I open or explore it, I see all the files/folders. I looked at key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer and found that NoDriveTypeAutoRun is set to x91 which disables autorun. I set it to x95 and the icon for the CD appeared but it still not auto start. Autorun was in the context menu, however. I am running XP x64 to build an XP x64 ISO using nLite 1.4.9.1. Attached is my LastSession.ini. I am testing under VMware Server. Hope someone has some ideas why this happened. Thanks, John.

    nlite folder problem

floz, This does not look like a Windows XP Operating System. Is it xpsp3_5512.080413-2113_usa_x86fre_spcd.iso? If not, give us the exact file name. The file I show is an SP3 file and some more stuff. You must start with a CD with Windows XP on it. Generally you have to purchase these for about $150 if you don't already have one. Please let us know. Enjoy, John.
  5. adigraham, I just checked and I show 'Don't Install' for IIS in Unattended on nLite. I had IIS (unchecked) on the Windows list under Add/Remove in my guest (I'm running as a guest under VMware Server). What did you mean by host in? I wonder if we are seeing the difference between 32 and 64 bit OSs? Enjoy, John.

    nlite folder problem

floz, What kind of a CD is it - retail, OEM, recovery, etc? If it is a recovery disk, you may be in trouble. Open the folder in Windows Explorer and take a screen shot and post it here. Can you see an i386 folder? If not, you need to find out why. How did you copy the CD? What you need to do is put the CD in the optical drive, Explore it in Windows Explorer, press ctrl-a (select all), then copy all the files to your HDD folder. Get your SP3 from the MS download site. Enjoy, John.
  7. adigraham, Just for curiosity, I just tried installing IIS from my nLited CD and it worked. Now it shows up in Add/Remove with a check by it. Since I have never used IIS, I don't know for sure whether it works properly or not. I am running XP x64 under VMware Server. Enjoy, John.
  8. Andrewr05, You should open a new topic on Sorry, I cannot answer your question. Enjoy, John.
  9. idyllhands, Yes you will. First, I agree with Kelsenellenelvian that not having IE will present problems but I think I have seen some claim that they can run Windows update without IE. Second, it appears to me you have violated the EULA (End Users License Agreement) by using an OEM key on hardware that it was not intended for. I would expect you to have trouble with one of the machines in getting MS to provide you with updates and I am surprised you were able to activate the second one. BTW, since this is really a different subject, it would have been best to open a new topic. Enjoy, John.
  10. adigraham, Thanks for the procedure. I assume you tried the process I suggested and it failed? Please let us know. Thanks, John.
  11. mritter, Of course, it is not absolute necessary but I think it would be much better than the present setup. Hopefully you will receive several responses. Thanks much you innovative work. Enjoy, John.
  12. TedJBrown, You need to start a new topic with your specific situation as a title. Did you nLite your source more than once? You must always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders. You know you are on the bleeding edge here. You are the first one I have known of that tried to create a 32 bit XP on a 64 bit Vista. Please open a new thread and attach (not paste) your LastSession.ini and tell us what kind of source CD you have. Is it retail, OEM, recovery or...? What is an SP1 upgrade CD? Enjoy, John
  13. adigraham, Based on other people with similar problems (left out features), you may have to rebuild. I have always wondered if going to the original CD and seeing if you can install it from there. I have not tried it or heard of anyone else trying. If you load your original CD in your running system, it should auto start and one of the options is 'Install optional Windows components'. Select it and you will get a list including IIS. Try installing it. If it works, it saves you some work, if not, you have lost little. Please let us know the outcome. Thanks, John.
  14. zaph1, Eh???? I have no idea what you are talking about. Perhaps others do. Is this a nLite question? If so, post some more information such as your LastSession.ini (attach not paste), what OS you are building and what OS you are using for nLite (version?). What kind of CD image are you using - retail, OEM, recovery, etc? Tell us more about - tweak, option, etc?Enjoy, John.
  15. Max Dread, See here for this quote: Enjoy, John.
  16. Kelsenellenelvian, You are welcome, but the information came from MrZoSo ,here. idyllhands, I may not understand your question about VB and Linux. I would assume you can run the ISO in any virtual environment that supports your guest and your host. For both, I am running an OEM CD with no problems. Mine was purchased (from NewEgg) at the time I got my hardware. idyllhands, if you really mean a Recovery disk, then you may really have a problem. I have looked at the Compatibility tab on my system (XP x64) and it has a Windows XP Compatibility Mode. I have not tried it, but perhaps it means you could create a 32 bit XP ISO on a 64 bit XP if you set this mode. Please let us all know if you try it. Thanks, John.
  17. feliks87, I'm not sure what your are missing, but bliss.jpg is in C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper on my XP x64 machine. I ran across a post the other day describing how to make a theme in these forums. I can't seem to find it today (perhas you can). Hope this helps. John
  18. phananh733, I can't answer your question but using nLite to put in themes works fine for me. Have you done this? I copied this from another post. Enjoy, John.
  19. bahramsport, Yes you can. Specify Prompt Repair in the Unattended section under the Unattended Mode pull down on the General tab. Be sure to read the help (click the ?). You will loose some of the features of the unattended install. Enjoy, John.
  20. lplates_abz and idyllhands, It has been reported in this forum that you can build XP ISOs on Vista if you set SP2 XP Compatibility mode for nLite.exe. Both of you should be using the latest version of nLite (1.4.9.1, last time I looked). You should also be using the same bit OS - build 32 bit ISO on 32 bit OS and build 64 bit ISO on 64 bit OS. You should always start with a fresh copy of the CD files/folders - never nLite a source that has been nLited before (including SPs). You should always tell us what OS you are using to build the ISOs and attach (not paste) your LastSession.ini. You should also look through these forums for ideas such as using a virtual system to test under so you don't have to keep burning CDs/DVDs (making coasters). Enjoy, John.
  21. DigeratiPrime, Thanks for your reply. All of the programs install and run fine on my machine but when I try to open a 64 bit DLL, I get an error message that the file is invalid or corrupt. ResHack and Resource Tuner install (RT) and start fine, but issue the error message when I attempt to open a 64 bit DLL. They work fine on 32 bit DLLs. I took a quick look at Resource Hunter and could see no claim that it supports 64 bit resources. Usually that means it does not and it also is not free like ResHack, XN and Explorer Suite. I certainly prefer free programs for a quick change like this one (paying $50-$95 for a few changes seems silly). I also would expect a program to handle 64 bit PEs on a 64 bit OS. Having problems finding programs that run properly on XP x64 is a curse I accepted when I installed x64. I failed to note earlier that the help button on XN pulls down 4 items but only the About does anything. This means there is no help text. Thanks again, John.
  22. lahvitz, You may be in trouble. See here. I suggest you search Google and Intel's driver DL pages for a driver for ICH9M/M-E. There may not be an XP diver for this chip set. Try sending an e-mail to Intel tech support. Good luck, John. EDIT: I just looked at the HP site and it does not look good. I would suggest you e-mail them also about drivers. Good luck, John.
  23. geoslake, Have you nLited your source more than once? You should always start with a fresh copy of the CD files/folders. Enjoy, John.
  24. x-Shadow-x, Thanks for the reply. I agree Resource Tuner is very nice, but it does not support XP x64, which I am running. Resource Tuner Console does support 64 bit, but it is a command line program that requires writing scripts. It is intended for changing many resource files at once and I was not inclined to learn the script. I tried XN Resource Editor and it worked but had no replace function. The only way I could figure out to replace an entire bitmap was to open the new one in Paint and copy it to the clipboard and paste it into the old one in XN. Sometime that messed up the colors in the image. XN also threw errors like 'Failure to access the clipboard' and 'OS call failed'. I decided it was too much trouble and probably dangerous. I then tried Explorer Suite (CFF) and that worked fine. It had a replace function for the bitmap images I wanted to replace in a couple of DLLs. I did not try the Resource Tweaker extension (DLed separately) that claimed to allow other utilities (such as Resource Hacker, which was the screen shot example) to work on 64 bit PEs. I should also report, when I replaced the original DLLs that I altered with Restorator, the objectionable extra items that came with my context menus disappeared. They did not return when I used Explorer Suite to edit the same DLLs. I am good now. Enjoy, John.
  25. No one seems to know about or be interested, but I report here my experiences. I DLed and installed the trial version (on VMware). When started it, it opened two dialog boxes, one with a 10 second timeout (every start). When I saved an edited DLL, it warned about including information in the saved file, but I was surprised when I saw it had added entries to most of my right click context menus. It is simply the URL for the Restorator web site and it either does not do anything or goes to Properties. I also notice it added a tab to the dialogs when a menu item was clicked. Some of these are new and some have replaced the name of an original tab. Now here is the wild part, they persisted over an install(which included the edited DLLs). I assume the first time one of the DLLs is run, it puts in these context menu items. This is truly an evil trial program. It did perform the function I ask of it. I wish there was an alternative for editing XP x64 DLLs. Enjoy, John.
