  1. mshaw, I don't have any suggestions but here is the information on my 'amd64\spconw.ch_' file: Size:176,259 bytes MD5:DFD95DF61A950D9FCF0E0D7247AADECD I have an ENU version CD with SP1, so don't know if this file would be the same. Good luck, Enjoy, John.
  2. mritter, Thanks for your reply. I think I am OK right now. I'll reply again if further testing reveals a problem. Thanks, John.
  3. I had decided to try to let WPI do the reboot after Kurt_Aust's install procedure completes. I discovered that any of three reboot options I tried did not work. This turned out to be a 64 bit problem. WPI guru, mritter, has been working on making WPI 64 bit compatible the last few days and has sent me a Beta that seems to solve the problems. I was using WPI to do some installs for me and when I added a reboot, it seems to be OK. I have more testing and have never tried a full install. The Windows Personalizations run to completion before WPI starts. Since I started this testing, I removed the shutdowm from Kurt's procedure and have seen no more of the missing Quick Launch folder problem I saw before. I think this is useful because it removes the need to guess at a shutdown delay, or specify a huge delay to avoid problems. Any comments are more than welcomed. Enjoy, John.
  4. mritter, We may be at cross purposes here. I am looking at my XP x64 system and know almost nothing about Vista. I have a regedit.exe in my Windows folder not System32. It is about 220KB while the one in the SysWOW64 is about 140KB. The large one is the same (identical hashes) as the one in the amd64 folder under the ServicePackFiles folder. Here is a KB about Regedit and Regedt32: Differences between Regedit.exe and Regedt32.exe And here is a KB about determining OS 32/64: See Method 2 under XP. How to determine whether your computer is running a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system Enjoy, John.
  5. mritter, I am far from an knowledgeable person on this stuff, but I have a couple of comments. Concerning your first post: I think the important thing is what kind of OS is running (64 or 32 bit). Most current CPUs are 64 bit, capable of running with a 32 bit OS. I don't know what the architecture will show , but it might show AMD64 even when a a 32 bit OS is running. The second post: I think the 32 Registry editor is also regedit.exe. This is to allow old programs to run unaltered. See this KB. Enjoy, John.
  6. Kelsenellenelvian, I do have IE7 integrated and have done MP11 several times but not lately. I have never created a complete ISO, only most of the pieces, a few at a time. I am waiting for AMD to release a Phenom to finalize my plans for an upgrade. I am also using Kurt_Aust's procedure for installing some things and I am suspicious that when his procedure issues the restart some Windows 'Personalizations' are getting killed, causing the Quick Launch folder to be missing. I have not seen this since I removed the restart. This is why I am trying to use WPI's Reboot function(s) and opened the other question that mritter is looking at. Thanks. Enjoy, John.
  7. Kelsenellenelvian, Thanks to your help and guidance, I have been able to create an Addon that enables the Quick Launch Bar and switches to large icons. A couple of funny things happened on the way. When my install first completed, I had only an IE icon in the QL Bar but after a reboot, the Show Desktop appeared. When I was getting the Registry data to put into your .inf, I rebooted several times. I would do an export of the Desktop key and compare to past ones I had exported. These always had 10 mis-compared bytes. This happened even if I changed nothing, just rebooted. I don't know what this means - oh well. Thanks for volunteering to make an Addon for me. I don't really know how to create one but I learned a lot by my obstinance. Enjoy, John.
  8. Kelsenellenelvian, I will be a little obstinate myself. I have already tried what you suggested, but I think I messed up with some extra blanks. I put the Registry data into your .inf (replacing the TaskbarWinXP), removed the WinXP, then made a .cab using 7-Zip. After it didn't work (Desktop key was missing), I discovered some blanks after the ',"Taskbar",1,'. I will try again after supper. Thanks for your help. Enjoy, John.
  9. Kelsenellenelvian, I added your cabinet file to my ISO and did an install. I don't have the Quick Launch, but I can see your TaskbarWinXP value in my Registry. It is quite different from the Taskbar value in the same key. Thanks, John.
  10. Kelsenellenelvian, Thanks for your reply. I had tried doing an Install (via right click) on your .inf but nothing. I tried again with the restart and still nothing. I don't see a default section in your .inf (attached). It looks like you are installing a value for "TaskbarWinXP". Neither my host or guest Registry has this value - Quick Launch enabled/disabled, before or after your .inf (has Taskbar with similar value). Perhaps that is the point or perhaps XP x64 is different. I just called you a little obstinate. If you have ieSpell installed, then highlight the word, right click and click 'Lookup on Merriam Webster'. Thanks, John.
  11. Kelsenellenelvian, You are being obstreperous. I meant: can I test on my already running VM, without building a new ISO. Perhaps 'executing' the .ini or .inf? Thanks, John.
  12. mritter and Kelsenellenelvian, I have determined what the problem is. WPI must be looking in the wrong place for shutdown.exe. I placed a copy (from C:\WINDOWS\system32) into the WPI folder and the Restart Option on the Tools tab then worked. Please note, mritter, I am running XP x64, not Vista. I was surprised when the Restart happened so quickly. The text on the Tools tab of the Option menu says 'Restart computer after installation is complete', but very shortly after the one installation started, a red x appeared next to it and the timer window for the Restart showed up. Is there any way to have the Restart really begin after all the installs are truly complete? Thanks much. Enjoy, John.
  13. Kelsenellenelvian, Can I test it on my VM - how? Thanks, John.
  14. mritter, I hope you can take a look and give me some suggestions. Thanks, John.
  15. Kelsenellenelvian, I found a reference to your Quick Launch enabler (Dled it) and wondered how to use it. Will it work on XP x64? Thanks, John.
  16. Octopuss, Look at this thread concerning enabling Quick Launch: Here. Enjoy, John.
  17. Octopuss, I have always had to manually enable the Quick Launch Bar. I'd just assumed that that was the way it worked. I looked through nLite for a Tweak or Option to automatically set it enabled but could fine none. Please let us all know if you find out how to automatically enable it. Thanks, John.
  18. Octopuss, Do you have a missing Quick Launch Bar including missing Quick Launch folder? I am not sure now what is causing the problem. It seems to be random. I am running XP x64 Edition and using Kurt_Aust's process to install many of my applications. At the end of his process he forces a Reboot which sometimes kills some system processes that are configuring IE, OE and other MS applications. I have stopped his Reboot and have not seen the missing Quick Launch, but I have run only a few installs (on VMware Server). I would appreciate hearing what you think. Enjoy, John.
  19. Kelsenellenelvian, No wonder I did not know what UAC is! I am not running Vista. I am running Win XP Pro x64 Edition. Thanks. Enjoy, John.
  20. I tried using the Restart function on the Tools tab of the Options menu and received the attached error. I seem to be blocked from all directions. Enjoy, John.
  21. Kelsenellenelvian, Thanks for your reply, but sorry, I cannot figure out what UAC is? John.
  22. I built a Batch file with the following: Shutdown /r /f /t 10 WPI indicated it worked saying a code of 1 was returned, but my system did not restart. I tried this command in a command prompt and it worked. Obviously, I need some assistance. Thanks. Enjoy, John.
  23. Thanks for your replies. I tried Reboot and it hung. I opened a new thread. Thanks, John.
  24. I am running WPI 6.5 .1 under XP Pro x64 Edition. When testing under VMware Server the first several installs go fine but the last one, Reboot hangs. When I click Abort and answer the prompt, nothing happens. I attach my install log. Thanks in advance for your help. Enjoy, John.
  25. I sent a PM to Buhric on the Comodo forum asking about the 'Plenty more switches' and he responded: Unfortunately, still not very useful. We can only hope the CFP development team will do something. Enjoy, John.
