  1. Apologies if this is a dumb question, but, I have copied my zllictbl.dat from windoes\system32 so i can be added back, but how do i do that, is it a case of copying back into windows\system32 folder or do i need to register it. Why does using the xml file created from doing a backupinside zonealarm not work when i assumed this would hold hose details.
  2. Thanks all, your notes have got it installed silent now. I have a question though, Which diles do i actually need? because i'm sure not all are needed and will it work with new 5.2 version of s/w does anybody know? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
  3. Can you manually install SP2 over an installed system? If this fails then you know it is an invalid verison of XP in eyes of M$ and i would have to agree with comment by Wasim, XP is either retail or OEM from a shop not a corporate verison.
  4. Have to go with anybody except Arsenal, based on the fact they are boring and my best mate supports them, ManU, because they don't have any home supporters only travellers, and Chelsea tried to buy the title last year and failed and will try again this year and fail, not been done since Blackburn Rovers Newcastle are a crumbling wreck with no cohesion, so my choice will be Spurs, but I doubt that will happen either
  5. That switch works for me and yes i get the connection wizard as well. Think it could be removed by doing a task kill of dap.exe and also iexplore.exe and then merge a regfrag with registration info etc. If i'm wrong, hopefully somebody will say as i'll be having a go later.
  6. I wouldn't mind knowing this also, and not that all those installing MSN or the like have it working or do people just sighn in each time they do an unattended? I did extract a load of key safter registering in hope it may work, alas not, so i'm resigned to adding it each time i do an unattended.
  7. Kinda makes sense now, having read reply. Cheers
  8. Appears to be a very useful tool. Will try when home, though I do have one comment, You say early on it will only check 1 folder down, will this change incase it is nested further than this? Not sure I have any apps that need it, but you never can tell.
  9. Out of curiosity, Why would you want to rename the .exe used for installation?
  10. if memory serves me rightly use a - infront of it or is it regedit -s I know there is a good document on www.microsoft.com/technet about doing this though as used before, but can't find at present.
  11. That was something i've been meaning to do, but haven't got round to so thatnks for the answer in advance. One thing i do have to ask though, do you know how to get the user to login as a networkeduser via roaming profile and not the local computer user? as i'm having a little difficulty. My PC is added to the active directory, and can ping server etc, but i'm unable to access any shares on it. Any assistance appreciated.
  12. I've not had this problem so can't answer, but this thread found from a search may have something that could help => http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=20706
  13. I know for windows 2k and xp it isn't possible to remove them as they are integral components, you can only suppress the usage of. If you do manage to do it will break things like outlook as it need OE as mail program and also whe you apply IE updates it will re-install OE. Been a few other topics in MSFN relating to these and most people have decided it isn't worth the hassle and just suppress.
  14. Why would you want to remove a service from the system? For example, in WindowsXP if you remove the BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)) service you wouldn't be able to install ServicePack2 as it is a required service and also the WindowsUpdate function wouldn't work, so surely to disable and have if needed is better and safer in long term. Just my thoughts.
  15. When i did at /? at the command prompt it gave me this => The AT command schedules commands and programs to run on a computer at a specified time and date. The Schedule service must be running to use the AT command. AT [\\computername] [ [id] [/DELETE] | /DELETE [/YES]] AT [\\computername] time [/iNTERACTIVE] [ /EVERY:date[,...] | /NEXT:date[,...]] "command" \\computername Specifies a remote computer. Commands are scheduled on local computer if this parameter is omitted. id Is an identification number assigned to a scheduled command. /delete Cancels a scheduled command. If id is omitted, all the scheduled commands on the computer are canceled. /yes Used with cancel all jobs command when no further confirmation is desired. time Specifies the time when command is to run. /interactive Allows the job to interact with the desktop of the user who is logged on at the time the job runs. /every:date[,...] Runs the command on each specified day(s) of the week or month. If date is omitted, the current day of the month is assumed. /next:date[,...] Runs the specified command on the next occurrence of the day (for example, next Thursday). If date is omitted, current day of the month is assumed. "command" Is the Windows NT command, or batch program to be run So i'm guessing if you do it without the time switch it will run straight away along line so at \\computername /interactive "command" Hope that helps
  16. I'd have to agree with agent_smudge, in that a proxy server will do pretty much everything in way of blocking people accessing unwanted sites and also if configured well can stop most trojans and the like getting through. I can't believe you have NO anti-virus installed as this will certainly open you up to kinds of problems. There are numerous about and most also now contain ad-aware equivalents in them. If all this is to much, (don't mean to offend as no idea of your technical skills), then best thing is to get the consultants in. You could also implement an Acceptable User Policy, that employees sign saying about if you misuse the PC or Net we have right to discipline you etc...
  17. wuschel, That sounds to me like a mis-spelt switch as one works and the other doesn't. Try using the switches as stated in the post by baza23 which works for eveybody else. Hope that helps.
  18. Found that using /s:<path> switch did work and also using the /integrate:<path> switch which is the oone listed when you do a /? or /help to get a full list of available switches. CD built and intstalled with no issues and when doing a winver it shows SP2 as version.
  19. I found that using the /integrate:<path> switch worked on using an extracted SP2 and using "-S:C:\XP" failed along with nlite everytime so gave up that method. I think it's a case of some work for some and others don't
  20. @Drepie Not sure what you want a script for as it is already their. @belluso_316 The best place to go for any info on slipstreaming ServicePacks and Applications is here at http://unattended.msfn.org and follow the guide. When your stuck use the Application Switches for exactly that to install apps and use the Unattended Windows for questions when your stuck with errors or wish to check stuff. I do highly suggest you use the search function though as you'll find most questions have already been asked and answered. The switch i provided only applies to adding SP2 to XP Hope that helps
  21. All i did was extract and run dxsetup.exe with the appropriate switches, which i think was /silent /noreboot and no issues were encountered. Why the need to use a modified one when the original works perfectly well?
  22. @Drepie IE6 is part and parcel of WindowsXP The only things you could add in relation to it are SP1 and updates after that was released. Though if you just use SP2 all IE6 updates are included. Hope that helps @belluso_316 I did manually using the /integrate:<path> switch and delted the folders like, Lang, all upgrade, support, valueadd and cmponent to reduce size. If you try that you may get more on CD but everything your after.
  23. Have managed to resolve his with some more thought and playing. so do this and you it will work. Extract the file "WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe" in to a folder of choice Then do start | run and type <pathname>\uodate\update.exe /s:<pathnameofxp> It will then integrate as expected. Now going to produce cd and see how it goes. Will update with results for those interested. OiOldman
  24. Hello All, I'm just after thoughts, so if in wrong area, apologies. I have downloaded the SP2 file from link here at msfn.org. When i came to perform the slipstream manually, it did nothing, though doubleclicking on it worked fine, so i know file is good and working. I have looked at the help, (/? or /help), and the switch is /integrate:<path>, however, If i do th is on Windows 2000 Server SP4 it fails when applying to either XPSP1 XPSP1a, or XP Though when done on XPSP1a with exact switch of C:\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /integrate:c:\xpsp2 it works with no issues at. I prefer to do it manually, as i learn more, though as an experiment i use nlite to do it and that also failed, with an eror, but can't remember it. Any thoughts as to why one works and another not? OiOldman.
  25. I found it easier to set the notifications to OFF by start | contol panel | security centre In this pane you will see a question / notice about notifications, click this and set them all to off and presto all done.
