  1. if you had read the unattend guide, or checked the 'hotfixes for windows xp professional' thread, or searched the forum, you would have found out: mdac uses a special command to install... that is why yours isn't working properly
  2. oh yeah.. .and when i use officeshrink.exe after a while an error comes up: Quiet-Mode installation is only supported in enterprise versions of microsoft office 2003
  3. I followed the guide on MSFN unattended guide... I don't have a setuppls.exe so I can't do an admin installation (I tried running setup.exe /a but after it started it error'd saying that i don't have a volume license office cd) I can't find setuppls.exe anywhere (even though someone else said it is available from microsoft download centre)... I have been searching google and microsoft for the last 30 minutes... I used the office 2003 admin toolkit thingy to create my Unattend.MST file... I run it via RunOnceEx... It comes up on the screen and says its preparing installation etc... it almost looks like it's going to work... after a while though, it dissapears off the screen without any error message, but office isn't installed? Is it because I don't have setuppls.exe therefore no admin share? i used the office shrinker to reduce the size of the source...
  4. using nLite and office shrink, plus compressing my drivers folder, i managed to reduce my XP SP2 RC1 unattended CD down to 649mb.... and that includes Adobe Reader 6, Nero 6 Ultra, Clone CD, Daemon Tools, lan search pro, ad-aware, power dvd 5, winamp3, office2003, cdex, isobuster, plus many more small applications (did i mention my 163mb of drivers compressed to 37mb?)
  5. don't you guys have discmans? or stereos? or portable mp3 players? if you answered yes to any of these questions then why bother getting sound to play during installation... it's a gimick, nothing more... personally though, i'd rather play solitaire than listen to music i have a radio, discman, mp3 player, stereo and another computer with speakers, and a tv!
  6. ok done thanks for that info dude... maybe you can help me with another thing dude do i have to change my svcpack.inf file to support sp2? i tried using a modified version of my old svcpack file, with the 3 new updates for sp2 rc1 in the list, but none of them installed....
  7. there is no real difference.... i prefer to do it during svcpack.inf but that's just me... using runonce might be slightly quicker, but hey, it's supposed to be unattended anyway so what does it matter?
  8. can i still use the old sp1 uxtheme.dll file? what else needs to be changed? can i use the old winntbbu.dll?
  9. could it be run through DetachedProgram if you put the solitaire.exe in $$ folder?
  10. 11. actually... now that i think about it i had this problem about 3 months ago.. the file just dissapeared i can't remember what i did either, i think it was when i reduced the source? i cant remember i just started all over again but this time i didn't reduce my source at all, except for manually deleting a lot of the extra directories off the cd.... until nLite came along now I've reduced all my disks and at least 100mb saved maximum 230mb saved
  12. sorry for not reading the previous 32 pages; my problem might have already been discussed... when i use nLite and reduce an sp2 rc1 source mildly or madly, either way i get about 5 or 6 missing file errors... it's not really a problem now because i fixed the references already, but the thing is, when i compare the file names to the nLite.log, they aren't even in the log? it says nLite didn't remove them, but without using nlite the files existed because i didn't have errors before
  13. did you check that the files exist in your source? if so the image might be screwy if the files aren't there at all, find the file that references that file name (do a windows search for all files containing the words 'errorfile.bleh') and delete the reference(s)... unless there is some cool switch to ignore missing files that i don't know about
  14. you have to set OEMPreinstall=Yes or it won't copy any of the $OEM$ folders?
  15. no dosnet? maybe its compressed as dosnet.in_
  16. i have the 3 updates in svcpack.inf but none of them get installed
  17. does that program give you an option for boot emulation? boot image = image file emulation = none load segment of sectors = 07C0 number of loaded sectors = 4
  18. [Version] Signature="$Windows NT$" MajorVersion=5 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=2600 do i have to change the build number because i have slipstreamed sp2 rc1 now?
  19. if your autologon account creation failed, or you are logging on as a non-admin account, the runonceex commands won't get flushed... usually though, most of them will have errors about access denied etc if this is the case.... this is the only time i have seen my runonceex commands repeat (when autologon account creation failed and logging in with a non-admin account)
  20. working out the cdrom drive letter you can change it to just one line: for %%i in (C: D: E: F: G: H:) do if exist %%i\CD.txt set CDROM=%%i also, if you were wondering AztecMystic, the numbers don't really mean anything in particular, they are just the order that things will be installed... they can be 5 apart, 10 apart, 1 apart, whatever you want... i normally set mine 5 apart so i can add things in between later on easily without having to change every number... you should put things that take longer to install at the start of the list... with the nvidia installers, they use install shield, so you can make silent installations for them using /R and /s (run setup.exe /R and install it like normal, then grab the %windir%\setup.iss file, stick it in the setup.exe directory, then next time run setup.exe /s to silent install) or for the drivers, you could extract the contents of the installers, make a couple of different directories (the directories that contain the INF files are required), add the directory paths to the winnt.sif DriversPath section, then windows will install the drivers only if needed during PnP detection like OEMPnPDriversPath="Drivers\NForce\AGP;Drivers\NForce\MemCtl;Drivers\NForce\SMBus;Drivers\NForce\IDE;Drivers\NVidia\Deton8r" for example Also, with the setup.iss files, if they are in the same directory as setup.exe, you don't have to specify the location using the -f1 switch... just the -s switch will suffice (only use -f1 if the setup.iss file is in a different location or isn't called setup.iss)
  21. XPlode works great, so does whimsy's WPI Wizard (I use the WPI) find links to both in the threads of interest thread
  22. if the error is before the gui mode screens, it probably has nothing to do with the winnt.sif or the svcpack.inf (svcpack's don't get installed until T-13 of GUI mode setup)... the error is probably in your txtsetup or dosnet files... are you using an original cd to create your unattend disc? have you reduced the size of the source using nLite? have you added your own raid drivers? have you used the slipstream media player 9 or directx9 installations (the batch file slipstream ones)? use a virtual pc to test your cd, that way you don't have to keep burning it, can just mount the iso and test it.... for starters re-make the ISO and try again, if that fails, make your unattend cd again from scratch
  23. I made an icon registry file, but what I am wondering is if I have to include the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT reg settings as well? 24. if you have used nLite like I have to reduce the size of the source, you might have taken the themes and login screens out like i did (because i apply my own theme during setup and dont use login screen) if it is a registry tweak.... start from scratch, add the tweaks one at a time, try to make your own visual settings tweaks yourself using regshot or regsnap etc.... if it's a registry thing it should be pretty easy to find though... have you searched the registry file of yours for "classic", "view", "login" etc?
  25. with SP2-RC1 my i386 folder is 202MB after reduction using n-Lite
