  1. there is also regshot and regsnap plus zillions more.... regsnap is shareware, but works good and makes .reg files for you too
  2. i had the same problem the other day mucking around with a new version of my cd... in the end i think it was the onboard usb controller on the mainboard, driver not installing correctly... i set bios defaults and it installed (afterwards i checked the bios and found the defaults set usb to disabled)
  3. 1) nLite (save 100-300mb +) 2) Office Shrink (save 100mb +) 3) Compress Drivers (save 50mb-200mb +) (or) 4) do a 2CD install (dont have to save any space
  4. is it installing through an administrative account or a user account?
  5. solved! thanks to Troglodyte who put me onto a program called "Bootable CD Loader" which works great!
  6. woohoo! I will check them all out but the Bootable CD Loader looks like the best bet so far! thanks heaps!
  7. oh yeah, i forgot to mention the intel indeo codecs thx Alanoll! I just modified the txtsetup.sif and removed all the lines that referenced the filenames that had errors and... yes... everything Alanoll said
  8. or, you could go to www.radeon2.ru and download the "Win2k/XP 6444" driver, which is a slipstream version of the catalyst 4.5 drivers just extract it to your $OEM$\$1\Drivers\Cat45 directory, then make sure you add "Drivers\Cat45" to your OEMPnPDriversPath... that's it... during PnP hardware detection, if radeon card detected, it will install the driver (with control panel and gart controller)... i haven't tested the new 4.5 version of their driver, but their old 4.3 slipstream drivers worked good for me
  9. you could just move your pictures to another location i moved My Pictures to C:\Stuff\Pics i then renamed My Pictures to Applications, made it visible as a popout-menu in the start menu, changed the icon, and put all my program shortcuts in the folder i did the same for My Music - i renamed it to Games, changed the icon, made it a popout-menu in start menu and put all my game shortcuts in there
  10. i integrated the SP2 RC1 build 2096 (i think that was the build) into my already configurred unattend SP1 installation... i had to change a few things: svcpack.inf - didn't need it anymore (couldn't get the SP2 RC1 hotfixes to install via that method anyway) uxtheme.dll - had to download a sp2 rc1 build 2096 version (search google for the correct uxtheme.dll for your build of sp2) size is about the same after you delete all the hotfixes and use nLite to take out some of the garbage, it works out to roughly the same size (my working sp2 unattend cd is only 650mb, with office2k3, nero6, pdvd5, adobe reader6, k-lite mega, blah blah blah) everything else worked the same i only had to delete the svcpack.inf and change the uxtheme.dll (the old winntbbu.dll still works even)
  11. even if you installed it through cmdlines.txt, before you run your vbs script... doesn't it have to reboot at least once for the changes to take effect?
  12. in your svcpack.inf check a few things: check that the qchain.exe is already extracted check the "windows xp sp1 critical hotfixes" thread (whatever its called) on this forum and find out if any of the hotfixes you are running aren't supported through svcpack.inf on the msfn unattend guide, their svcpack.inf has a couple of CMD files in it i think (to install some hotfixes that won't install direct from svcpack.inf) check that
  13. i do a sysprep -reseal -reboot -nosidgen and it seems to work ok (asks for cd key, name etc)
  14. it might be ok for 'dump shop' computers try the 486 forum if there is such a thing?
  15. just a shortcut to this thread i posted in the WinPE forum (that forum has no traffic compared to this forum, thought i might get better results this way, please don't castrate me admins)
  16. we support a lot of notebooks that don't have any internal drives (they have usb floppy drives and usb cdrom drives)... all of the notebooks can boot from usb floppy, but none of them can boot from usb cdrom.... i never cared about this until today i have a laptop with dead operating system... the only way to reinstall is with the recovery cd which will format the hard drive (it uses bootable floppy to load the cd)... there is no network card... the hard drive uses a non-standard 1.5cm wide ribbon cable for data (i can't plug it into a 40pin IDE cable using an adaptor)... now, i need to backup the data on the hard drive... i can't get barts network boot to work as there is no network card and no pcmcia slot... i can't boot a WinPE disk (to use Nero) because it won't boot from cdrom... is there any way i can boot a floppy, which then loads the bootable cdrom itself? or can you start winPE from DOS?
  17. does your winnt.sif have the admin password set? and does your winnt.sif have AutoAdminLogon=1 ??? check ref.chm! (i might have mis-spelt)
  18. i dont think changing the PID will negate activation... vlk disks have modified files?
  19. with the ICH5 and ICH5R Intel chipsets (south bridge), you only need to load the driver if you are running RAID... if you only have a single drive, or two drives seperately without RAID, the ICH5 and ICH5R emulates IDE support and you need no driver (I've tested this on my ABIT IS7-G and it works fine)... if you are running RAID with your ICH5R south bridge, you need the iaStor driver integrated: 1) make a folder $OEM$\$1\Drivers\iaStor 2) copy your drivers into this directory (off your mainboard floppy disk, need all the files in the directory containing iaStor.sys) 3) makecab iaStor.sys iaStor.sy_ 4) move iaStor.sy_ to your I386 directory 5) edit winnt.sif, add the drivers path "Drivers\iaStor" to your OEMPnPDriversPath 6) edit txtsetup.sif, add the following near the bottom (not after the OEF character which looks like a little square, has to be before this): [SourceDisksFiles] iaStor.sys = 1,,,,,,4_,4,1,,,1,4 [HardwareIdsDatabase] PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24DF&CC_0104 = "iaStor" [SCSI.load] iaStor = iaStor.sys,4 [SCSI] iaStor = "Intel(R) 82801ER SATA RAID Controller"
  20. how are you processing your runonce commands? from where? paste a copy of your commands here as well so we can have a look at them
  21. yeah... you probably have a batch file, or a runonce entry, that is referencing %allusersprofile%, or %appdata%, or %homepath%, or %userprofile% and it doesn't have "" marks around it.. for example, to copy something to your my documents folder, you would need: copy this.file "%userprofile%\my documents" note the "" marks around the destination (because it contains spaces, as does %userprofile%)
  22. you could use a registry monitor like RegSnap or RegShot to make your own registry tweak, then you can post it in the registry tweaks topic all you do is take a snapshot of the default, then, change the setting to exactly how you want it and take a second snapshot... it will give you a registry file with the changes
  23. for boot screens (as in windows boot logo with flashing bar) install StyleXP 2.0, use that to create a boot screen and then grab the kernel1.exe file it makes, put it on your CD in $OEM$\$$\system32, then you need a batch file to change the kernel: Basic Code: bootcfg /copy /D "Windows XP Professional" /ID 1 bootcfg /RAW "/Kernel=kernel1.exe" /A /ID 2 bootcfg /Timeout 2 bootcfg /Default /ID 2 Advanced Code: (checks for SP or MP kernel and applies accordingly) FOR /F "tokens=3 delims= " %%A IN ('REG QUERY "HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Environment" /v NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS') DO SET NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS=%%A bootcfg /copy /D "Windows XP Professional" /ID 1 if %NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS%==2 goto DUAL REM ----For Single proc bootcfg /RAW "/Kernel=OEMKrnl.exe" /A /ID 2 goto End :DUAL REM ----For Multiprocess/Hyperthread proc bootcfg /RAW "/Kernel=dualKrnl.exe" /A /ID 2 :End bootcfg /Timeout 2 bootcfg /Default /ID 2
  24. I just finished installing SP2 RC1 unattended on this computer here.. I didn't enable the registry tweaks during installation and sure enough I can create a new folder from an open/save dialog box... so then, i ran the reg tweak file.... and i can still make a new folder? hahah this is silly
  25. well then dont, you pussy whipped b***h! i dunno how to attach files anyway
