If WU never ask for update, then check file version for msscp.dll (located in system32). For my case, If I did not include windowsmedia11-kb929399-v2-x86-intl.exe, the file version is 11.0.5721.5145 If I include windowsmedia11-kb929399-v2-x86-intl.exe, the file version is 11.0.5721.5201 BTW, all my WMP11 hotfix is located in HFSVCPACK_SW1. (As long as it takes /quiet /norestart switch, I put it there) I'm using hfslip-1.7.9_beta_k.cmd, with WMP11 slipstream method as per HFslip webpage. On XP Pro. WU has no complain about missing WMP11 hotfix so far. Edit==>: I did another test, with windowsmedia11-kb929399-v2-x86-intl.exe in HF folder. Also works. (file version is 11.0.5721.5201 ). Hence either HF or HFSVCPACK_SW1 also works.

I do not know of any tweak either. How about a small workaround? I activate thru autoit script. I made a small file to launch IE with Ctrl+F. So everytime u launch this file, it will also activate "Find". Requires Menu Bar to be visible & no tweak to Internet Explorer Title bar text. Also if there are multiple IE windows, only the latest focus IE window will be activate with Ctrl+F. @Brownie To get these tweaks, I actually had to click "Next' at Welcome Prompt and answer all questions IE asks. So at the end, I get "IE8TourShown"=dword:00000001 & "IE8RunOnceLastShown" etc with their own timestamp. This is different from GPEDIT.MSC which are disabled totally. I create another script to address this issue so that his script can continue to install unattended. Hi, you can use the following switch to install: tightvnc-1.3.10-setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /SP- TortoiseCVS-1.10.10.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /NORESTART /SP- It is better to test on VM first if you are not familiar. (U can use Universal Silent Switch Finder (USSF) or CMenu to find application switch like the one above. It is not that hard or mysterious about installer switch). Generally, the only problem is sometime after using /S switch, it launches the program. Only this kind of switch (/S) is sometime unfriendly.

Hi, this is a simple addon that uses the following switch emesene-install.exe /S There is no post-install complicated screen launch after running it. Should be easy to made yourself. Nevertheless, pls test it on VM first.

No, it does not show up in WU (as far as my build is concern) I have KB968220-IE8.CAT located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB968220-IE8.CAT in my installed XP. U can check if your exists or not. (I'm not sure if this is the one that cause WU to shown up kb968220)

Please share if you know any tweak that can disable "Welcome IE8 screen" on first run. Usually I need to click "Ask me later" just to remove this little annoyance. I was wondering if there is any tweak as I couldn't find one.

Try removing IE7-WindowsXP-KB958215-x86-ENU.exe (Dec 08 hotfix) as well since IE7-WindowsXP-KB961260-x86-ENU.exe (is latest as on Feb 09) <---keep this (also as per bcf_xxx: remove IE7-WindowsXP-KB956390-x86-ENU.exe (Nov 08 hotfix) ) Usually this IE7 Cumulative update has about the same filesize i.e. 8.5 ~ 9MB. So I think it is safe to remove the older version when new version comes out.
