  1. I am still a fan of Debian for myself😁
  2. I can't say with all honesty when I named this thread that Windows 10 would live up to its name...but it does and just continues.... I have probably written this before....but when Windows 10 was first offered as a "free" update I sort of got a bad feeling about it.....Microsoft had never in all the years of me using it been so blatent about wanting us to have a product that they have offered it for free....as they would like people to think....It didn't get the interest that they expected and then it got offered as a "recommended update" and we all know what that means.....unless otherwise stated your computer will install Windows 10 at 11pm in the evening or the first time you have your computer on after that..... I still have the words of a customer so upset by this but still maintaining that "Microsoft would not do such a thing"....but even he listened to me in the end and accepted things for what they are..... A friend of mine works at a local company about 10 employees..they came to work one morning and there and behold was Windows upgrading to Windows 10....I think everyone was too shocked to do anything about it and after a while learned to live with it...... Microsoft caused so much upset with this "recommended update" way of making sure you end up with Windows 10 that the tabloids in Fleet Street London wrote about it......but over 4 years later everyone is just getting on with things and accepting this is what Microsoft are offering..."what do we do" is something many of my customers have said over and over again..... The fact that this thread continues to get attention just goes to show me that "Official - Windows 10 Worst Crap Ever!" still rings true to this day and I can't see it changing.... Not only have we a company that I was once naive enough to trust with updating my computer...that has decended into what it is today!! The development team are getting younger and younger....ok to have new blood but they need to get out of nappies/daipers first.... Will Microsoft be that company that I once respected I don't think so.... Will they care about support representatives taking over computers to fix them remotely and then using third party sites to look for solutions to the problem... I don't think so.... So, we are left with this s*** and have to put up with it....or do we.... I have started telling ordinary customers that have computers that don't support Windows 10 that we can install linux instead...many just need the internet and a way to write documents....Linux is getting easier and easier....as it is customers come to me with their Microsoft problems....don't see any difference if they come with Linux problems... bookie32
  3. Now you have to admit that is funny...even the statement....... Sorry...can't stop laughing.... I needed cheering up..... I don't think arrogant covers this crap... bookie32
  4. Hi guys😀 Thanks for the help...😁 bookie32
  5. OK not following: I cannot write the code as shown: dir > text.txt text1.txt text2.txt instead of writing: dir > text.txt and then: dir > text1.txt And so on...how do I write one line of code that creates all three files? bookie32
  6. Hi jaclaz Yes...that can work..... I was thinking on the lines of: dir > text.txt text1.txt text2.txt I just wondered how I could create several documents at once with just one line of code... bookie32
  7. Hi guys! Instead of creating a batch file... How do I create several files with differnt names at once....seen many how to's for directories but not actual documents? bookie32
  8. Have to ask NoelC are you feeling ok....
  9. That is perfectly understandable....but that has been typical of Windows 10 from the start.....the settings you make get overwritten with an update.....there are a lot of posts about the pitfalls with trying to setup Windows 10..it demands time and energy and is also a reason why many members don't use it as a production OS.... bookie32
  10. Well this popped up in my mail box yesterday evening...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What the **** has Microsoft to do with Linux....why are we seeing them on the same advert..... Microsoft is **** and Linux is something to be admired....they should not be in bed together!!
  11. Yep that is bad enough...but I still say it would be OK if you could trust the updates not to **** up your machine....and the simple answer is we can't....
  12. Hi guys! Fixed it..... I reinstalled IE 11 and things are working as they should again....do not understand what became corrupted but it works... I will add that when I sat and thought about things...I had been having problems with getting to computers on home network...I use Openmediavault a lot and after logging in the screen went blank...now everything works again.... bookie32
  13. Hi guys! I have done extensive tests and cannot find a problem.... It does seem to be connected to my profile... If I login to my girlfriends user account no problem saving password in IE for google.... So without creating a new profile I can't think what to do...? bookie32
  14. Hi guys.... I have been trying to stop the popup for google's security policy that popups all the time on this one computer.... I saw a thread about logging into google to stop this happening but it is worse than that... IE 11 on Windows 7 will not save passwords...if I open a new tab it asks for all my details again....if I shut IE 11 it is the same thing....I have reset internet explorer and it is still happening...I tried starting IE 11 without applications but still the same problem.... Has anyone any idea what to do? It isn't a virus/malware have checked... bookie32
  15. We haven't heard from Roffen for a while...do hope he is ok... bookie32
  16. Thanks for all the info here guys! I will use this thread as a place to check if I have done everything....lol After resetting winsock and reinstalling the driver before giving the computer back to the customer I haven't heard about any more problems....so I will call this solved.... bookie32
  17. Just one thing that comes to mind....have you turned of Microsoft updating your hardware drivers? And then removed all usb drivers and reinstalled just your motherboard ones.... Microsoft couldn't fixa a p''''p in a brewery and letting them loose to fix drivers is a no no... bookie32
  18. Yes....but I haven't the setupact.log...think it might have been removed by ccleaner....;) Thanks anyway
  19. Yes....I think you are right... bookie32
  20. Thank you so much! bookie32
  21. Hi guys! I have tried to see by convential methord like msinfo32....nothing about legacy or UEFI there... I have tried looking ofor the setupact.log to see if I am actually using UEFI...no log file.....ccleaner can be the culprit....lol What other ways can I use to see if I am actually using UEFI mode? bookie32
  22. Thanks guys for the info! Much appreciated! bookie32
  23. So tll me....is Internet Explorer worse than Edge...I personally have not wasted time on Edge....so would like an opinion.... bookie32
  24. Sorry...been busy....my bad! I have two computers connected to a splitter but had forgotten that. I have a server connected to the same screen splitter and had started that but forgot that my main computer was connected to hdmi and not vga which the server is... Because I started the server first it took over the screen and then my works computer wouldn't work without attaching the vga cable...forgot that I had hdmi still connected...hdmi and vga didn't play well together.... All solved... Thanks for reminding me that I hadn't written solved.... bookie32
  25. Hi Dclem and ojt_1998.... Having a hard time believing that Roffen is really interested in any help he gets.... He is on two threads this one that I started way back when and this one... @Roffen If you are going to post then respond with comments that let us know that we are being acknowledged for giving advice.... Just want some clarity... *Roffen I am sorry if I have been a little harsh... Learning computers is a pain at the best of times and as I run a business helping lots of pensioners....should be a bit kinder to you....I would like you to write a post and then sort of answer if anything we suggests helps you so we know how to proceed.... Please don't be put off by a grumpy old git like me....lol bookie32
