Microsoft announces a Windows event on June 24. What do I think?
bookie32 replied to sunryze's topic in Windows 10
Well it is time for them to change....I always thought and still do "You are never too old to learn if you want to" Yes, I get what you are saying but this isn't rocket science.....I have customers that are in the 80's that have made the change to Mac or Linux.... bookie32 -
Why don't you do you install with everything and make a clone?..That way you don't have to reinstall everything every time.... bookie32

It would be interesting to know how many of you think the new edge (based on Chrome) is worth a try...but maybe an opinion would be hard because as Microsoft say...it is based on Chrome...

Microsoft announces a Windows event on June 24. What do I think?
bookie32 replied to sunryze's topic in Windows 10
I would have to agree.....I am wondering if micro$oft remember the statements released with Windows 10 regarding that it would be the last Windows version and just updates for that version....but then again....micro$oft is not known for being honest as a company..... -
Hi Gansangriff Thanks for your input...I was sort of thinking along those lines that maybe somewhere in the router there is a problem for this laptop.... I will make that my next test... Customer coming to me with that computer and one other for updating... I will see how it behaves on my network and take it from there... bookie32

Hi guys! An interesting one....I have a customer with an Asus Zenbook UX430UG.... This was no cheap computer but is almost 7 years old now.... My customer uses the laptop for business and pleasure... At home she can be connected to the home network a while and then she gets dropped and has to basically restart the computer to connect again... She has two other places she uses the laptop for work and there she is connected to the network all the time without problems.. I reset her home network and updated the intel AC8260 driver to the latest one from Intel and it seemed to work fine for a while and then the same problem at home... I reset the network on her computer again and it worked fine after that for the time I was there....this was an evening call and it was getting late.... The customer tested the computer at home yesterday evening and according to her she wasn't dropped from the network as often as she usually is....? NOW the strange thing is I had my laptop beside hers while working on her laptop and my computer never missed a beat...it was connected to the network the whole time with out problems.... Has anyone any idea how to go about looking for other things that could be causing her problem at home? bookie32

Why is Internet Explorer still inbuilt in Windows 10?
bookie32 replied to bookie32's topic in Windows 10
Hi Tripredcus I have outlook on my work computer....have had it for years....I use it mostly for backup of my email...and appointments etc...I usually use Gmail and most of the time log straight into the webmail....Thunderbird works really well and I always recommend it to customers that have had Windows Live Mail for years.... bookie32 -
Why is Internet Explorer still inbuilt in Windows 10?

Yes..removing it wasn't the problem....being in baked in Outlook 2010 was the problem....Microsoft is rubbish and will not change bookie32 -
Why is Internet Explorer still inbuilt in Windows 10?

I also personally run pure Debian with XFCE.....I use Windows 10 for my business... "Rome wasn't built in a day" comes to mind.....;) We will never change Microsoft.....they got lost along the way...it is a shame that everything comes down to money.....this is why I will never respect Microsoft for what they have become.... bookie32 -

A lot of companies here in Sweden don't trust Microsoft with their security....Several use Redhat now...Ubuntu is a disgrace to the Linux community! bookie32 -

Why is Internet Explorer still inbuilt in Windows 10?

Control panel > Programs and features > Disable and Enable Windows functions.... The links are embedded in the email and no they don't try to open Internet Explorer Sorry too many years in Sweden....forget my English....lol Sorry for my word choice....been living in Sweden too long... Control panel > Programs and features > Disable and Enable Windows functions.... Office Home and Business 2010 has Outlook 2010 as part of the programs you can use.... I had a feeling that Outlook 2010 must use something in Internet Explorer.... If they remove the Internet Explorer stub in a new version of Windows 10 (which I might point out has been discussed for ever) then she will need to upgrade her office version to a newer one...and like I said "if it works don't fix it".... There are many threads about problems with all office versions after 2010 and I have customers coming to me all the time with 365 problems.....so I said to her keep it as long as it works and when it doesn't we can update to a newer one... And as stated I enabled Internet Explorer again so all is right with the world... My thread title was more of a rhetorical one.... bookie32 -
Hi guys! I know this question has been asked...but has anyone any idea why Internet Explorer is still part of Windows 10? I found a little reason why today when trying to help a customer with Office for home and business 2010... Yes....I know it is old and there is no support anymore for it but "if it works don't fix it" comes to mind.... I installed started her new computer recently and installed all programs that she uses... I also make it a habit to deactivate Internet Explorer as a matter of course.....why have something that has no support and customers can't do bank errands via Internet Explorer.... My customer had had a problem for a while but let it go because of work pressure.... Today she contacted me because of not being able to open certain links in Outlook..... The error was something like this: "The operation has been interrupted due to computer limitations. Contact your system administrator" I tried checking default web browser settings and other settings that others have said...no joy.... I was going to give up but though about reactivating Internet Explorer and that fixed the problem....must be code in Outlook 2010 and Internet Explorer? bookie32

The is only one drawback for those that need games support....games companies don't seem interested in betting on Linux...if anyone knows different....please say... Linux as an operating system is far more stable and reliable.... Just that if you want the best out of Linux...then you need to be prepared to learn the basics..the community surrounding Linux is fantastic and there is always someone that can help with your problems as they may arrise bookie32

Okej this seems to be a tough one for anyone to take on.... I have run the usual sfc /scannow and checked with DISM but don't find any problems just can't understand why this isn't working.... Might do a reset of Windows 10 and start again... bookie32

Running Windows 10 with both Local and Microsoft account facilities
bookie32 replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows 10
It is a mixed bag Microsoft these days... When installing just don't connect to Internet when asked to.... On the other hand there is a lot of **** attached to digital licences...have just checked one that a customer bought cheaply but it activated and it was supposed to be a license for Windows 10 Pro. When I checked the digital license with Microsoft it was for Windows 8.1....now how does that work...????? If you have a retail license Microsoft wants you to have it connected to a Microsoft account for easy moving to new hardware... I still prefer after doing that to logout and have a local account... If Microsoft know about the crap with digital licenses being sold for stupid prices and they are working - then the question remains...why allow digital licenses? sorry waffling on today....lol bookie32 -
Stable version (20H2? Nothing about Windows 10 is stable apart from it is crap and that is a constant that hasn't changed...sound problems have plagued Windows 10 and especially 20H2....Several of my customers have had no choice but to buy new sound cards....BUT there is no guarantee with that either...Microsoft still think they can fix problems with drivers....BUT instead cause more problems!! bookie32

What is your preferred release version of Windows 10?
bookie32 replied to sunryze's topic in Windows 10
Interesting question..... I really can't decide on a version because I genuinely think Windows 10 as being the biggest load of crap that we have had to put up with.... XP and Windows 7 were the closest that Microsoft have got to being good....but we all have different opinions on that and I respect all opinions.... Sorry, could not bring myself to picking a version.... bookie32
