Install Plus & copy the SCR to a test PC, run InstallSpy, run the the SCR and accept the EULA. Then check the InstallSpy logs....seems simple enough to me. If you use VmWare and snapshots for your testing- its a hell of a lot easier.

perhaps just use remote desktop software....remote into the home PC and watch it. But you might not have the upload bandwidth to support this.

Suddenly unable to run System Restore from MCE
WwTIPPYwW replied to mburk's topic in Windows XP Media Center Edition
if no system restore - do a disk image. If you don't like office 2007 - restore from image. -
if you're pulling your TV from Cox, you're OK. If your TV is coming from the air then you'll need a digital/HD capable tuner card. Otherwise its analog and that will be dead. graphics card is not the same as the tuner card

so what is the problem? what are you trying to do?

I can confirm...somebody told you something the other day. perhaps a bit more detail might help. If its related to more than 3-4g of RAM on a 32bit OS - there is a difference.

look here for some help on this - its for a different model, but the steps might help if you need to reinstall. make adjustments where appropriate - http://soulpass.com/2007/11/10/installing-...15-2153-laptop/

Automatically switch audio for USB headphones
WwTIPPYwW replied to PlayWithFire's topic in Windows XP
my soundcard drivers automatically do this. I have to disable this, as I always have the headphones plugged in and only occassionally turn on the speakers. Update your soundcard drivers and then hunt around it's settings. -
this is a relevant thread....like 10 years ago. NTFS offers much more improvements over FAT32 to make this debate nonexistant. You can use tools to convert to NTFS w/o formating. You can use tools to read NTFS partitions. This used to be a lot more complicated years ago. Before doing anything - BACKUP you vital data!

NEVERMIND - I just saw that you tried this.... try this - it has customizable variables too http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb897557.aspx BgInfo v4.14 By Bryce Cogswell Published: August 8, 2008 Introduction How many times have you walked up to a system in your office and needed to click through several diagnostic windows to remind yourself of important aspects of its configuration, such as its name, IP address, or operating system version If you manage multiple computers you probably need BGInfo. It automatically displays relevant information about a Windows computer on the desktop's background, such as the computer name, IP address, service pack version, and more. You can edit any field as well as the font and background colors, and can place it in your startup folder so that it runs every boot, or even configure it to display as the background for the logon screen. Because BGInfo simply writes a new desktop bitmap and exits you don't have to worry about it consuming system resources or interfering with other applications. BgInfo works on Windows 2000 SP4 Rollup 1 or above.

From vista to XP on Acer Aspire 5920 - anyone done it?
WwTIPPYwW replied to darkstranger1's topic in Windows XP
different model Acer - but some of the fundamentals are the same. http://soulpass.com/2007/11/10/installing-...15-2153-laptop/ -
try XPLIte to remove some of the "Extras" of XP post installation. nLite is good for pre-installation cleanup. XPLite is good for post.

[Question] Fresh XP install - put boot files on C:, install XP on D:?
WwTIPPYwW replied to E-66's topic in Windows XP
I customized my install of XP, moving the documents and settings folder and the program files folder to the D drive - they never were installed/created on C. Despite this, I ran into a few issues along the way. Even Microsoft couldn't handle it. Microsoft Money 2007 failed to install with the drives/folders configured this way. My AV program (AVast) didn't seem to like it either. Poorly written programs/viruses look for C: - better programs look for %systemdrive% or similar variables. My two cents. -
Help With These "unattended Install" Doubts I Have
WwTIPPYwW replied to perfection's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
should you just leave the line out of the file? -
it is not running - because it gets deleted before getting run... When you run this command RD /S /Q "%systemdrive%\Install" it kills the rest of the cleanup.cmd file, because it just got deleted. Move this to the end!
-
just run the BAT file from the cd - why copy it over?

tried Knoppix STD?

OOOoops, Deleted Partition, Need Data Recovery
WwTIPPYwW replied to Slip400's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
if you installed anything over the drive, like you unattended install - then you've done a lot more damage than just a repartition and format. Oh well, I guess a little is better than none! -
OOOoops, Deleted Partition, Need Data Recovery
WwTIPPYwW replied to Slip400's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
GetDataBack http://www.runtime.org Easy Recovery http://www.ontrack.com/software/#dr ERD Commander http://www.winternals.com/products/repaira...002.asp?pid=erd But the chances of getting anything back are pretty slim. Also, make sure to install anything on another hard drive and to restore on another drive as well. But that should go without saying. -
I second prathapml theory! I've seen it before and that was the cause.

no switches are required if you make your installer silent w/in InstallRite. Just call the EXE as you would normally - with no switches. I used it for many programs. Others might be better. Some programs are best with the built in installers. InstallRite merely copies all the changes made. So it takes the options you picked when you created it. So, if you want to do none default things, InstallRite will mirror them. Or use the wildcard options when you create your installer.
