I certainly admire their efforts in that regard and of course one can use this guide anyway one sees fit but I for one would not recommend Windows 2000 for front line use these days. To use the infamous car analogy, if you took a 1930's car that had been sealed away and was in mint condition it wouldn't be as safe to drive as an equivalent brand new model. Sure you could retrofit some things, seat belts shouldn't be too hard for instance, but good luck retrofitting crumple zones. By the way I usually use this analogy to describe why the ****ashima reactor partial meltdown is a poor reason to write off nuclear power. At one stage I was considering taking an old box and using W2K on it as the basis of a media PC, but 10 minutes down the road they're selling ex-lease Core2 quad machines for $230. At that price it simply isn't worth mucking around with a box from 2003 running W2K that I wouldn't really trust on the internet. You should really do it all in one pass, also some of the drivers seem quite old and it seems strange that the Audio driver should have NT4 in the filepath (2000 and XP are NT 5.0 and NT 5.1). I run 64-bit XP on an Acer 5024WMLi (one of the very first laptops that could run it), you may want to look at the drivers I use noting of course that you'll need the 32-bit equivalents.

Ok, so I've rebuilt a new image, this time with no components in the Hardware Support removed. And I'm still lacking cpu drivers. Anyone got a suggestion? Um, your last session file still indicates that drivers have been removed.

Why remove hardware? If it isn't physically present the drivers won't be loaded and if it is there you need it. The only reason I know of to remove drivers from the install disk is if they interfere with the installation of other drivers that you've integrated (for example signed drivers will always take precedence over unsigned drivers).

USP 5.1 works with the Server versions of Windows 2000 and yes, while it is indeed quite old that also means that any problems would likely have been discovered. The Up-to-date Windows 2000 install media creation guide will work with Windows 2000 Server but it's not quite as smooth as with Windows 2000 Professional. The Anti-Virus I use (Avast Home) won't run on Server versions of Windows but Comodo Firewall v2 (as mentioned in the guide) will work on Server 2000.
