  1. Unfortunately Windows Update still thinks KB2659262 is necessary but that would hardly be the first detection issue its ever had.
  2. While the previous version of the board software was painful for me to use for post formating, primarily due to the lack of tab alignment, I was able to work (imperfectly) around it. However the new version drops my post formatting halfway through my guide thereby turning it into a real dog's breakfast: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/105277-howto-create-a-fully-up-to-date-xp-x64-dvd/
  3. It's not entirely clear what you want here. I'll assume you want a fully updated base install disk WITHOUT a CD key so you can use it on multiple computers (note, I only have OEM copies of XP x64 so can't guarantee results on other versions, it shouldn't make a difference though). In that case just don't enter the key in nLite, you can still choose fully automated install mode, the installer will stop when it gets to that point and ask you for the key. nLite does not have the capability to integrate WMP11 in and of itself, it does apparently have the ability to call the WMP11 slipstreamer, but as I haven't used that ability I don't support it. If you're having trouble the simplest option is to use 5eraph's update packs (with the WMP11 slipstreamer, and DirectX & .Net at \RunOnce), with no addons, in that case you only need to autologon once and shouldn't copy Run2_Xp-64.bat to your new install disk.

ASP.NET Compatibility Update A tad late again this month, this time for reasons similar to those that hit 5eraph, as I had a hard drive die on my computer the day before patch Tuesday just when I was about to do the monthly offsite backup AND I had to rebuild my parents PC (which strangely took priority over updating this topic). .Net 4.0 - currently has 13 updates totalling 215MB for a base installer that only weighs in at 48MB? Me thinks it's well past time for an updated base installer to be released.

MS13-040 - Spoofing Rather late this month due to an unfortunate combination of lots of overtime at work, a rather busy schedule outside of work, and a lingering throat infection that just won't bugger off. [Rant] What is this obsession with Metro-fying everything? The latest application to fall is Foxit reader, joining Avast anti-virus and Comodo firewall. That's bad enough but now Microsoft's download pages are "Modern UI" style, hiding such basic information as the name of the file you are about to download and (more importantly for me) sometimes dispensing with the links to the associated security bulletins. MediaFire has also gone the Metro route, displaying in a horrible blurry grey font that gives me eye-strain. [/Rant]
  8. A rather unusual request, but if that's all you want to do, just follow the guide and:

    1. only download and place the .net related installers at RunOnce

    2. you don't need Run2_XP-64.bat

    3. only set it to auto-logon once at 7

  9. Are you sure that applies to XP x64 as well? (or even to all installations of 32-bit XP) I hadn't heard of it before and considering that XP x64 is really Server 2003 x64 with the server extensions stripped out, it may not be a problem if it only affects the NT 5.1 codebase (XP x64 is NT 5.2).
  10. These young whipper-snappers, try installing and updating XP at the end of a dial-up connection, now that's long and boring!
  11. Probably not, at least I have no intention of doing so. As to the 32-bit versions out there, I've tried OnePiece's all-in-one update packs and .Net true addons but have found them to have the odd bug, perhaps they are a tad too aggressive in their implementation. Instead I use UserHidden's (and before that YumeYao's) updated .Net installer, but even that far more conservative option runs into problems with Windows Update continuously offering the same update.

The new versions of Avast and Comodo are rather bleah and MediaFire now has fuzzy out of focus text.
  13. Clearly coming late to this party, that's what you get for going away for the weekend (also away this coming weekend, as such this month's update might be late). As 5eraph has noted his pack includes a large number of hotfix by request patches, in the very early days of 5eraph's pack I encountered some application incompatibilities when using it, mind you it has been several years since I've had such an error. As to whether using 5eraph's pack or publicly released hotfixes is "better", there is no clear answer (I use 5eraph's packs on my systems). The publicly released hotfixes have had more extensive testing but on the other hand the HbR patches fix (admittedly rarely encountered) problems with Windows XP x64. The updated DirectX files in the June 2010 redist pack (re-released 18 Apr 2011) mainly include performance fixes for game use, so while there is no security issues if you don't install it, I'd still recommend you install it.
  14. When running nLite, did you turn off your anti-virus? I find leaving mine running while nLite is processing causes problems. I've attached a known to work XP sp3 last session created under XP x64. LAST SESSION.INI
  15. Added the post end of life hotfixes suggested by tomasz86 (as a separate download). PCBONEZ: If you were using the default install, then you are using updated .Net installers provided by User_Hidden. The "errors" you saw were the batch files searching for the original Microsoft installers for those people who chose not to use the updated installers (see notes part 4). As thomasz86 noted, Avast version 8.0.1483.72 works on Windows 2000 (although I don't care for the Windows 8 skin a lot of programs are using lately).
  16. On the batch file front, your GuiRunOnce should look like this if you want the batch file to run BEFORE the user account is initialised: [GuiRunOnce] Ping -n 41 127.0.0.1 > nul CMD /R %Source%OTROS\RUN.bat If you want the batch file to run AFTER the user account is initialised it should look like this: [GuiRunOnce] Ping -n 41 127.0.0.1 > nul Start %Source%OTROS\RUN.bat with the first line of the batch file being: Ping -n 121 127.0.0.1 > nul The way you have it currently the batch file will execute at the same time that the user account is created.

MS13-021 - Cumulative Security Update PCBONEZ: I've corrected number of files to move for IE8 silent install (it dropped from 5 to 4 in February), as for Adobe flash player, this guide only updates monthly so if an update is released out of cycle it won't be included, that's why FlashCheck.bat asks you to ensure you have a later version if the expected size doesn't match. Avast anti-virus and Comodo firewall both released new versions with a "modern/metro" style UI. Personally I don't care for it but wouldn't comment except that the latest version of Comodo breaks Deamon Tools, specifically DT can't see that the SPTD driver has been installed.

  20. I can definitely say that .7z works correctly and as nLite recognises .zip and .rar I can't see any reason they wouldn't work as well. No, this update is x64 only, if you want a x32 IE8 update try this one.

MS13-004 - 4 Vulnerabilities fixed A bit late this month, a tad busy with other things. As one can see mostly .Net related changes this month, now if only Microsoft would put out updated installers that would vastly cut down both the size of the install media and the time taken to install (as .Net patches take forever to apply).
  24. KB982524 also dies, so there will be a large number of .Net patches lined up against the wall this month. Of course with .Net 4.0 the patches are 201MB where the actual installer is only 48MB, only Microsoft would have a program where the updates are over four times the size of the original program without issuing an updated installer.
  25. You can basically follow the steps 1, 2 , 5 & 10 in this guide with the following changes: 1 - as is 2 - integrate the 32-bit SP3 (no need to exit) 5 - add User_Hidden's Update Pack (only, the files linked to in this guide are 64-bit specific so don't use them) 10 - as is
