There should be an effectively final update to this list in about a week, the only items likely to change after that are updates to .Net, WMP9, MSXML and VC runtimes.

According to Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-040, NDP20-KB928365-X86.exe replaces both NDP20-KB917283-X86.exe and NDP20-KB922770-X86.exe and it installs on Win98se, at least for me.

Opera 10.60 has been released but didn't work for me, anyone care to confirm? If so it looks like 10.54 might be the last working version on 98se.

KB976570 has indeed be superseded by KB982168, similarly KB974417 has been superseded by KB976569. However when I checked previously Windows update kept offering the superseded updates, taking another look today it would appear that this has been fixed. It certainly works fine at this end, are you yanking out various components? It's installed via the batch files simply because it cannot be integrated by nLite.

If -X-'s solution doesn't work, you'll probably just have to make the phone call (to the Microsoft activation hotline). Remember that your RAID 1 setup will appear to be a different hard drive to the activation hardware check. Just explain how you changed you system setup and you should be fine, they're quite understanding.

You don't have to do anything with the batch files (except copy them across at step 9), all you have to do is download the listed files and then follow the 10 steps. Everything from the heading "Application AddOns:" onwards is optional settings and/or additional information.

It's in the config file on MediaFire or you could click anywhere in the main post that says "torent" and grab it from the tracker (with the new forum software it's much harder to see where actual links are).

The .Net 4.0 installer, unlike the .Net 3.5 one, is NOT cumulative, it only installs the additional components that comprise .Net 4.0. Hence on Windows Vista and earlier you will need to install .Net 3.5 sp1 (.Net 3.5 is already included in Windows 7). Personally I wouldn't bother with .Net 4.0 for now as it will be a while (as noted in the guide) before we see applications using it in the wild, it was 2 years after the release of .Net 3.5 before I came across an application using it (most rely on .Net 2.0 only). I probably would have waited longer to add .Net 4.0 in the (forlorn) hope that a fully updated .Net 2.0 through .Net 4.0 installer would be released, but .Net 4.0 had already been mentioned by Trance-Energy in the guide.
