  1. The .Net 4.0 installer, unlike the .Net 3.5 one, is NOT cumulative, it only installs the additional components that comprise .Net 4.0. Hence on Windows Vista and earlier you will need to install .Net 3.5 sp1 (.Net 3.5 is already included in Windows 7). Personally I wouldn't bother with .Net 4.0 for now as it will be a while (as noted in the guide) before we see applications using it in the wild, it was 2 years after the release of .Net 3.5 before I came across an application using it (most rely on .Net 2.0 only). I probably would have waited longer to add .Net 4.0 in the (forlorn) hope that a fully updated .Net 2.0 through .Net 4.0 installer would be released, but .Net 4.0 had already been mentioned by Trance-Energy in the guide.

  4. Having never used it I can't help you with a source processed by HFSlip x64. Unless you can confirm that the problem still exists after following all the steps outlined in the guide exactly (that is, using nLite) I doubt we can help you.
  5. In my case setup will fail partway through with a BSOD, so while the symptoms aren't the same, the underlying cause might be. I would suggest trying installation with the DVD drive attached to the SAS controller and seeing if that gives you a better result.
  6. Kenlau, what you are experiencing is NOT normal behaviour. As John has suggested please check the hashes to ensure that your versions of NDP20SP2-KB958481-x64.exe and dotnetfx35.exe (note that .Net 3.5 SP0 has the same filename) aren't corrupted. If they are valid please attach your session file (unlikely to be the cause, but we may as well rule it out).
  7. On my motherboard (Gigabyte EP45-DS3R) that also uses the ICH10R controller, XP x64 installation will fail if I attempt to do it via a SATA attached DVD drive, I have to use an IDE attached DVD drive.

  11. Trance, I found that REG ADD is very picky about quotes, try removing the superfluous quotes: If exist %1XP_1.bat REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce" /V "command0" /D "%1XP_1.bat %1 " On another note I'm about to go on holidays until Saturday 10th April, so I'll have only intermittent access with my laptop.
  12. Yes the AddOns will install, but the file associations don't always register correctly on XP x64. For this reason I recommend installing applications via batch file on logon as described in this guide.
  13. The WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64.exe is considered in your first post as "Optional". I agree with that, but the KB927891 patch should be considered too as optional, as it seems to be useless alone. 2) The MSI Installer 4.5 has a patch, the KB958655. Could be useful if you want to install SQL Server or things like that without problems. Maybe you could add it in the list (it would be better if MS took some time to create an updated installer...). I have also a question : The KB923789 update, who concerns Flash Player 6... Is it really necessary ? I mean, I will install Flash Player 10. Should the vulnerabilities be corrected at the same time ? 1. Realistically users will upgrade to WindowsUpdateAgent30-x64, either by running it specifically (as done by this guide) or by BITS installing it in the background, the optional aspect is more of a when rather than if. 2. This guide only uses hotfixes publicly available on the Microsoft download center (no beta updates), besides there have been problems with the various patches for MSI 4.5 as described in 5eraph's update pack thread. 3. Yes, KB923789 is redundant if you install Flash Player 10, again it is a case of giving all available options (as long as they won't do any harm).

  16. I too would like a "classic" skin, the current default strikes me as a tad bright and garish. That being said, I'm posting to report the code function is not working correctly. Like, what's with the weird colours? Also that a look at the post 5eraph references above, at the bottom of the post are several batch files that are supposed to be in code boxes.
  17. Erpdude8: It's indeed an unfortunate loss of a valuable resource, still you can get SP5 from MediaFire, eSnips or this guide's torrent. Targaff: According to Microsoft's preliminary investigation, the problems regarding KB977165 are due to a pre-existing rootkit on the affected systems.

    RunOnce Program

I take it you are using the function in nLite to autologon at least once, if so: Do it with a couple of batch files, first call one from nLite's RunOnce function %Source%Step1.bat containing Start %Source%Step2.bat which calls another batch file containing Ping -n 121 127.0.0.1 > nul %Source%Autorun.exe The first one will initiate the second, but critically will allow the first logon and account creation procedure to start, the ping command gives a 2 minute delay (n-1 seconds) before executing your Autorun.exe program. EDIT: Anything in the 1st batch file will be executed before account initialisation and anything in the 2nd after.
  21. Just to clarify: 1. I have no issues with the RST management application once installed, the problems I have pointed out only apply to the actual act of installing the program. 2. These limitations compared to previous versions of the installer will not be limited to XP only, they will also apply to Vista and Win 7.
  22. I'm not seeking to integrate it exactly, rather I'm seeking to script it for silent install along with all my other applications on subsequent reboot passes once the OS has been installed. I'm using RAID 10, so there is some benefit and as I only reboot about once a week or less, slightly longer startup time is not really an issue. Still, none of this changes the fact that Intel did a poor job on the installer.
  23. Actually, the Setup.iss file for v9.5.6.1001 is still useless, here's its contents: [InstallShield Silent] Version=v7.00 File=Response File [File Transfer] OverwrittenReadOnly=NoToAll [{9068B2BE-D93A-4C0A-861C-5E35E2C0E09E}-DlgOrder] Count=0 And here's an example of what a response file should look like (from PowerDVD5): [InstallShield Silent] Version=v6.00.000 File=Response File [File Transfer] OverwrittenReadOnly=NoToAll [Application] Name=PowerDVD Version=5.0 Company=CyberLink Lang=0009 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-DlgOrder] Dlg0={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdWelcome-0 Count=10 Dlg1={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdLicense-0 Dlg2={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdDisplayTopics-0 Dlg3={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdRegisterUserEx-0 Dlg4={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdAskDestPath-0 Dlg5={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdSelectFolder-0 Dlg6={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SELECTSKINDIALOG-0 Dlg7={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SHOW_CLPV_CLEV_DIALOG-1 Dlg8={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdFinish-0 Dlg9={6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-AskYesNo-0 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdWelcome-0] Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdLicense-0] Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdDisplayTopics-0] Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdRegisterUserEx-0] szName=Kermit the Frog szCompany=The Muppet Show szSerial=Dream on Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdAskDestPath-0] szDir=C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdSelectFolder-0] szFolder=CyberLink PowerDVD Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SELECTSKINDIALOG-0] DefaultSkin=Glow Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SHOW_CLPV_CLEV_DIALOG-1] Result=1 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-SdFinish-0] Result=1 bOpt1=0 bOpt2=0 [{6811CAA0-BF12-11D4-9EA1-0050BAE317E1}-AskYesNo-0] Result=0
  24. I took the opportunity to do a quick (partially) automated install and the latest drivers do seem to work on real hardware, mind you I still find it strange that integrating the textmode driver will BSOD VM's when the previous version had no such problem. I remain most unimpressed with the installer for the management console however: 1). As I noted before, it tries to extract itself to the current drive rather than the system temp folder, so if you are running it off a CD the installation will fail. 2). Even if you are running the installer on a hard drive, you can't do a silent install (/S). The "setup.iss" response file is there, but it's empty.
