I would power off the router and reboot it, it may have just locked

← Thanks, i had seen the tutorial, but i already have an established routine that was working very well. Win51 has been on all the disks i have seen, what disks would it not appear on on is it a Nlite thing where it gets removed..? just curious. I dont know if this is worth thinking about but the DP oem folder must always be in the root of the CD, can we use a file from that instead...?
-
Ok, i'm way passed these problems... i already repaired the slipstream file and the tagfile issue that left me with a WatchDriverSigningPolicy.exe error and completed a install and all went well on my test system..... except..... i no longer have a DP folder on C drive, i have a bin folder and all DPacks are left in the root... what happened there...???

I should look at XPlode again, with all the extra features of XPlode i thought i would be disabling most of the script so i never used it. I personally still use XPinstall as it does exactly what i want it to do and was easy to configure,

I never had a problem with this error before DP pack 5044, but now when i create my multiboot CD i get this error, !?!?!?? now i know how to fix it and your suggestion is good, however, i don't have a \i386\setuporg.exe, i have wxph\i386\setuporg.exe, and wxpp\setup etc, so consequently, this fix does not work, for me anyway, i still have to manually change it... can this be changed to something that we all have in the root of the cd..??? (back to win51 maybe.. )

Dps Poll #2: Which method do you prefer?
Ghostrider replied to Bâshrat the Sneaky's topic in The General Stuff
Ok, of course if i'm using CDimage then your correct, but i still find the modular package to be more manageble. -
It's not confused, it's Here

Goto this Thread to see the fix for this error, the nircmd error went away when i reslipstreamed and reintegrated the driverpack..??!?!?!?
-
Ok, 5045 killed my method 2. Edit, Ok fixed that one but nircmd error is back

Have you implemented install switches so you can pick what you want and don't want installing..?

Modular updates are so much easier and i also manually create multiboot cd's so space saving is important. my cd's are now 719 and 717mb respectivly, in otherwords... FULL... -

Networking 20 Pc With Server And Adsl
Ghostrider replied to Freakboy's topic in Networks and the Internet
If your Dad is starting from scratch then I would recommend starting with a wireless (108Mbs) 4 port router, attach a 24port Gigabit switch, wire the place with Cat5e cable and install gigabit NICs in all computers, unless they come attached to the motherboards Now that you have setup the infrastructure you can connect your router to the server computer via a second 10/100 Nic, this i would have running W2K3 server for small business with exchange server (not SBS, there is a difference in licensing, unless 25 users is enough) you can allow the router or server to act as dhcp, i use the router but it's your choice. Now i would setup exchange server to login to your ISP and downloads/upload emails and as your workstations are all XP (pro) you can login to the server and have it install Outlook 2K3 and configure shares etc. if at a later time you want to run your own SMTP server you just need to update exchange. -
Have you tried the Sysprep utility in the deploy tools, if your OS is functional you can run it then change the M/B, XP should re-detect on restart, you will have to reneter the Product key and user info etc
-
Well that's 2 of us it worked for, just have to see if it works for Vaternl, don't see why it shouldn't though
-
This may seem very strange but i had the same problem, so i experimented and moved the shutdown command from the beginning to near the end of the instruction list and it now works and you only need a 60 sec timer, 3 mins is kinda long especially as the instruction will now be near the end, not at the beginning.

DriverPack MassStorage:which method do you prefer?
Ghostrider replied to Bâshrat the Sneaky's topic in The General Stuff
I realised that most people who make multiboot CD's usually only make multiboot and don't use single OS CD's, as i use both types i found a error installing, maybe other people are finding the same type of error and you see it as a "WTF" error, that should work, but it's the multiboot config that is making it fail. i am going to change my build any way so that both driver sets are in root and i386 folder. -
-
F6 doesn't work in unnattended mode, you should use Bashrats method to create a unnattended CD with drivers included, then f6 will not be required. Edit ..P.S through experience i have learned that it's not a good idea to create a boot OS on a raid, mirrored or otherwise, when they fail you lose data big time, unless you ghost the drive then it won't matter.

Bashrat, see my Post i outlined my process, including use of massstorage DP

DriverPack MassStorage:which method do you prefer?
Ghostrider replied to Bâshrat the Sneaky's topic in The General Stuff
I mentioned in post Here about how i created several different Slipstreamed installs, as the main ones are multiboot cd's (not DVDs) i use pyrons method (M2) as it uses a lot less space, i also find it much easier to keep updated as my $oem$ folder seldom changes, except to add hotfixes and i can change the base XP install by adding or removing driverpacks. Just to elaborate... i start with a clean XP, (OEM, Retail and Corp) slipstream SP2, then i add Bashrats M2 method for all driverpacks (or remove Massstorage if causing trouble as recently happened ) i then add my $OEM$ folder which uses XPinstall and Runonceex to install extra software, hotfixes, registry hacks and Oeminfo files (if required, i can choose) and cleanup then I use WinCDMan version 1.04 to create a multiboot CD but at the very last section when it allows you to add your own changes i move Bashrats oem folder from the WXPH and WXPP folders to the root of the new multiboot CD, then add my own Winntbbu files to each i386 folder and when i use the Mass storage pack i move all the newly added drivers and Winnt.sif from the i386 folder to the root of WXPH and WXPP folders then i create the .iso. when i'm done the .iso is 717mb and just fits on a CD However, as i mentioned in the other post the multiboot CD causes an error when using it with the adaptec 1200A and 3ware 9500S-12 cards but a single XP version CD worked properly with no errors. I believe this error occurred because i moved all the driver files from the i386 folder to the root of WXPH and WXPP folders instead of copying them (done for reasons of space), if they are not placed in the root then you get the aec6280.sys error but as most installs are standard IDE controllers and these drivers are in the Drivers.cab file i have not come across an error, but the 1200A was the boot drive controller and windows does not have a driver built in that's why i now get an error. I think the Multiboot install looks for files in the root, hence the aec6280 error when it cannot find them, but the massstorage pack seems to want the files in i386 and as i just moved them from there to the root of the WXPH & WXPP folders on the multiboot CD it now fails Cant copy file etc. I hope that was clear, it appeared so to me but i'm using this sequence all the time and it seems so easy and strightforward, if i can i will rebuild my multiboot CD and leave massstorage driver files in both root and i386 folders and see what happens, my only concern is i wont be able to fit the iso on a CD anymore... -
Actually, one was a Dell Laptop, the other one i think had the intel AC97 chipset, sorry to be a little vague but i repair PC's all day everyday and sometimes the desire to get them fixed and back to customers overides my ability to make notes..

I dont know if this info was noticed as i posted it just before the old thread was moved so here it is again, just in case it is helpful to someone I have a new error to add to the list... I am creating 3 Driverpack Slipstreamed XP cd's, one is OEM Home & Pro, 2 is Retail Home & Pro and 3 is Corp. 1 and 2 are multiboot and 3 is standard install, all 3 work in a normal IDE install, sound, lan, video all install, however is still get Portcls errors on some soundmax installs but restart and it continues the install. My big problem came when i tried to do an install on a Asus P4P800-VM with Adaptec 1200A and a 3ware 9500s-12 SATA controller, the boot drives are on the adaptec 1200A and the 3ware is setup with a 2 terrabyte raid 5 data storage, when attempting an install with either of the multiboot cd's i got an error that the adaptec 1200.sys file and 3ware.sys (not actual driver names, forgot those) files could not be copied and of course i get a BSOD, but when i use the normal Corp install cd it all worked properly, all drivers found and no windows updates. so i think the changed config of the multiboot cd is creating a problem when trying to locate drivers for non windows supported cards, but the normal config of a single install CD means it can find the files it is looking for. So if you are using a multiboot setup and are having trouble then try making a single OS cd/DVD and see if it cures the problem

The title says it all, i have a customer who changed the password i provided for their AV console and as it's not been accessed for awhile so the password has been forgotten, does anyone know how to retrieve the password without having to manually remove the whole program from the server...
