  1. I have updated the pack with some additional stuff and fixed some typo's i have been testing on a 900mhz Celeron with 512mb ram and the start to finish process of integrating, slipstreaming and burning a multiboot ISO took 2 1/2 hours See my 1st post for the download
  2. Easiest way is to use nlite and integrate the raid textmode driver at the same time you create the slipstrewamed SP1 then boot from cd to install.
  3. Well thank you for creating the programs..i was looking for something to do this kind of thing as i spent quite some time integrating, slipstreaming DP's and then creating a multiboot (all manually ) this is about as quick and as automatic as i can make it right now... i look forward to the new incarnations...
  4. I read in a recent post that someone wanted to make the process of creating cd's unnattended; as i'm always doing 3 or more things at the same time i decided i wanted this too... So..I put together a few batch files that use Ryan/Siginets integrator, Powerpacker and BTS driverpacks. The batch scripts are very simple and require .ISO images of the original XP cd's, tweakui (to prevent autorun) and Deamon tools to mount the images. They are then linked to automate the process of integrating hotfixes, addons and media player, slipstream drivers (make run_me.bat unnatended 1st) and then create the ISO. What is also required is the creation of folders to place isoimages, source files and end packaged files. I used C:\isoimages + C:\source\xppoem C:\source\xphoem etc C:\source\$oem$ C:\source\replace\home and pro. You of course can use whatever folders you wish, try to use names without spaces though. I always start with XP home then create Pro, the way i have put it together means you end up with multiboot cd's of OEM home/Pro and Retail home/pro. You can change the order or sequence to suit yourself. The batch files also include instructions to integrate winntbbu files and later change the cdshell.ini file and splash.csi for the boot menu. As with any batch file you can REM any lines you dont need PS i'm no programmer, so this just does a job quick and dirty, if anyone can improve them then go ahead but i hope people find them useful as they are. just a reminder always start with the home batch file. Reply, PM or email me if you need further help. Edit: there is a typo in the retail pro integrate file, change the $ to % in systemdrive I have updated the pack with some additional stuff and fixed some typo's i have been testing on a 900mhz Celeron with 512mb ram and the start to finish process of integrating, slipstreaming and burning an ISO took 2 1/2 hours PowerPack.zip
  5. I have the IDENT files in the roots of each pack as you mentioned above, that was the 1st thing i checked and they are there, i had to leave on a service call so i was not able to check the CD (besides, i forgot ) EDIT: i checked the CD and the package folder and realised that the ident files were in the root/xppo folder but not the root of the cd, only the home ident files were there, i added them manually and the disk works now.. Looking forward to the new version (server too ) P.S did you get to look at the XP Slipstream/powerpack auto create batch files i created and uploaded to another thread..?
  6. Got a little busy to be able to reply earlier but anything i would suggest has already been mentioned by others in this post... using a combination of bios boot password, encrypting data folders and configuring a software firewall. If all you want the user to do is access the internet, get a basic computer, no hard drive, build a very basic PEBuilder with firefox and boot from cd or use Knoppix Live. I suspect if we knew what you intended the user to do then we could help further. P.S The only software firewall i use these days is windows firewall, all the others either crash my computer or use so many resources they bog my computer down. I used to recommend Zonealarm but bloatware comes to mind these days...!!!!!
  7. I have created from scratch a complete multiboot cd of XP Home and Pro OEM I used Integrator to add ryan addon 1.1 Media player 2 and hotfix pack2 then powerpacked into an iso but when i try to use it i get and error when booting the pro version.... home works great... This is the screen i get, Any ideas Siginet...?
  8. Make sure file and printer sharing is installed on the Win98 computer, also make sure you login using a network login not windows login. finally make sure that the tcp/ip for your network card is set as the default protocol
  9. Never Mind... will create a new thread PowerPack.zip
  10. Anyone who has physical access to your computer can get into the guts of it, access profiles and change passwords if they know how... I am a service manager for a computer company, i regulary have to access computers which are password protected, I have programs that allow me to add accounts, change passwords or even access the password protected account, do what i need to and return the password to what it was so the user would not even know I had been there. So, to answer your first question, guest account or not your computer can be comprimised by someone who knows what they are doing, a lay user could not bypass guest login restrictions. As for the second, restricting access to C drive... well you cant stop access to the whole of C as windows itself needs access, but you can use NTFS file/folder permissions to deny access to certain other folders/files. just right click and select sharing/security then security And lastly, LAN access... you can make sure you have no shared files/folders on your computer, also use a software firewall that is configurable to deny access from other computer IP/MAC addresses Best of Luck
  11. Thanks Bashrat... i have been using the RyanVM integrator, and powerpacker to create a multiboot CD with driverpacks. The small business and full server 2003 I only use the powepacker with driverpacks, i cant even slipstream SP1 into SB server as it wont let me continue the install of exchange etc. Just in case there was some corruption i decided to redownload all packages i use and re slipstream from scratch. problem is i can't check the server install until next thursday, I can test XP on Monday
  12. I have a question....can I use Nlite to integrate the textmode driver and then slipstream the driverpacks or will that corrupt/erase the Nlite integration...?
  13. OOps, forgot to mention that, i'm using method 2, all packs but cpu and graphics A. i then used powerpacker to create a tri-pack
  14. I have been experimenting with a slipstreamed SP1 server 2003 + $OEM$ install using base pack V5112 and installing on a Dell poweredge 2850 with PERC 4e/Di controller. All was going well and then i updated the base pack to V5115 and reslipstreamed the whole package from scratch when i went to install. It now tells me there are no hard drives installed.... What it really means is the driver for the PERC 4e/Di controller was not found... has it been removed from base pack V5115 or is there a bug...?
  15. Try this.. First, create a whole new key: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control \ StorageDevicePolicies. Then create a REG_DWORD entry in it called WriteProtect. Set it to 1 and you'll be able to read from USB drives but not write to them. EDIT see here for more info http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;555324
  16. That's true, However I just like to have a clean machine so I would likly use every Anti spyware/Malware tool I have before transferring...
  17. Then my only concern would be registry settings that may have been comprimised by Malware.. Thanks for the tool, I'll test as soon as I can.
  18. I just downloaded USMT to use for profile transfer, i wanted to check if it was safe to use on a possible virus/malware infected machine or should it only be used on a clean machine..?
  19. I got some further info and it seems that the licensing for accpac means it can only be used locally so Term Services appears to be the only option. Good thing for me both servers are high end and right now only 5 users are expected to connect at the same time via Term Services. These days i don't see the point sometimes of using Leased lines and VLans when Remote workplace and OWA are available.
  20. I have a client who is currently using Accpac across a lan located in a rural head office and 4 locations across N/America & Canada. They want to create a Wan so that all locations use the centralised data at the head office instead of uploading locally created files at the end of the week. I currently have them running SBS2003 with a separate Terminal Server allowing them to access locally created accounts through the TS and input data directly into Accpac. They are also running exchange for mail which will be expanded to include their remote locations. They are a growing company and want to centralise as much as possible and add some redundancy to their internet connectivity (Head office is 1.5mb Wireless Internet) but they want a dedicated connection if possible. they have had a quote from another consultant recommending OfficeLink VPN managed routers at remote locations and a fibre/ADSL dedicated connection locally. I don't dispute the dedicated link as a replacement or backup of the wireless connection but i think managed Officelink is a bit much especially as they may pay for data throughput too and accpac transfers masses of data between server and workstations. My thinking is that remote workplace/Terminal server access is better and cheaper, however, is security a risk.... Does anyone have any suggestions or comments that might help me point them in the right direction, money is not a big problem as they are willing to spend what is needed, i just don't want to suggest paying more than they really have to.
  21. The repair option is removed and cannot be used, however, in the DATA section of the WINNT.SIF file set this entry AutoPartition=0 you can then choose to repartition and re format the drive.
  22. 3.79 is out. Can't they do anything right . I'll update this DriverPack ASAP. EDIT: where do you see that? It still says A3.78 here! Dont break anything....It now works for me with 5.012 base and 5.11 sound pack.....1st time ever..
  23. Corrupt download maybe..? anyway i'm going to update files at work and try there too.
  24. I downloaded the latest 5012 base pack and rebuilt and now it works....
  25. I just did a rebuild using the new base, chipset, massstorage, graphicsB and sound A&B then created a multiboot disk using powerpacker and i just got the same error on all versions when installing in Virtual PC. I think something got broke..!!!!
