A different cooling question... (I hope!)
zipp51 replied to TheDayStalker's topic in Hardware Hangout
You can effectively use a fan to blow into the case from the side mounted low as Elite stated, provided you have two case fans (one in front blowing in and one exit fan in the rear)The power supply fan always is an exit fan in addition to the other. The Alienware cases are designed like that as well as other more expensive systems. This side fan cools the cards as well. It's cheap to do this.I have an Enlight 7237 and have added a 60mm exit fan and my 1.4GHZ TBIRD runs from 45c to 57c on a real hot day under a load. Before that my temps were much higher.I will buy a Zalman like FthrJack has when I get my XP 1900 chip. I recently upgraded a friend's computer from winME to Win2k.He has an old super socket 7 w/K62 500.He is on a cable modem. The upgrade went very well.We had a storm and he says he shut down his comp and after the storm passed the sys would not start correctly.A blue screen with the Stop message saying that the bios is not completely compatible with ACPI and to turn it off and all will be well. Now,in the bios utility I switch it off and after a few seconds into the start up screen the system shuts itself off.I have tried every which way to get around this.It won't even boot into safe mode or restore to last known working configuration.I was on the phone trying to do all this so I will have to go over my buddies to troubleshoot.Could the boot sector be corrupted? Can I start the machine with the CD and repair the configuration files.Any ideas besides trying to format again?..............Thanks Zipp

The drive is an ATAPI internal one.I got it to work better.I bought Iomega Hotburn software and downloaded the xp patch, however I installed the patch before I installed the Hotburn and thats a no no according to Iomega. It still is slow but it works. The other alternative is to shell out $70 to $100 on the newest Roxio Easy CD Creator. It originally had Version 4 which will only work with 98se.What I mean by slow is that it is a 12x burner and I get buffer underruns while copying at that speed and have to slow it down to 8x and then it's fine.I'll live with it.DVD sounds like something I might want to save for.

Do you use a program to install the icons on different folders or areas on the DT?

I have an Iomega Zip650 12x4x32 burner. It was installed in my Win2kPro comp and I had to get new software from Iomega to run it.I installed it in my XP comp and as instructed got the patch for XP,but it runs a lot better with the Win2KPro.To be blunt it sucks.I am going to look around for something new does anyone have a suggestion on a good CDRW for under $125.00?How do you rate your Burner?

Can't get mine to work either.Do I add the xyzzy to the command line in properties,as in right clicking on the minesweeper's startup tab? -

Good call Elite, obviously I'm still learning about the boards.

I think this is the driver you are looking for it's called GLSYWin98.exe.Says that this driver is for the Elsa Gloria Synergy a8 vivo.............Drivers You have to join for free and use their search engine not the message board,I already tried that. You are right though "General Discussions"would have been better.

I have also heard of brand new fans spinning the wrong way (ie. blowing air away from the cpu)Each fan has an arrow on it.Usually the arrow is on the upside of a cpu fan.Make sure the fan is going in the direction of the arrow. Also at one time ATX case specs allowed the PS fan to blow in towards the MB and cpu,but they changed their specs to blow outward.Check to see or feel if the PS fan is blowing outward from the rear of your case.If you have an exit(back)and an entrance fan(front) make sure that the one in the front is blowing in and the one in the back is blowing out.If they are both going in the same direction it will create a vacuum and an overheating problem will occur. That temp "seems" too high.Have you taken the cover off and visually inspected the fan.It might be loaded with dust, hair, and whatever. Also while the cover is off, start the sytem and look at the fan.Is it slowing down sporadically? If you have MBM 5 monitor you can set the alarm for the lowest rpm's,and this would warn you before you get the warning,as you have said, for the overheated CPU.If all is well with the fan only other thing I can think of is to reinstall your MB monitor software. Good luck 1.4GHZ TBIRD 266FSB LEADTEK GEFORCE4 440 CPU TEMP 46c CPU FAN 5113 RPM CASE FAN EXIT 2777 RPM +3.3V 3.37 +5V 4.73 +12V 12.07 CORE VOLTAGE 1.76

Could be your video card drivers not up to date or your card is not compatible or not seated correctly in it's slot.Could be your refresh rate is set too high.Need more information on your hardware and software installed. Are you running a UPS?

Thanks for the link FthrJack, that Kanie Hedgehog wing looks like it generates some serious wind although with 2- 60mm fans it might be a bit noisy.I'll have to do some checking on the dB/A rating.
