This is what I use to install XPPro from my HDD: I just boot to DOS with a StartUp disk, and Dir, then CD, then type go.bat followed by ENTER. That's it. You can use the same procedure from a CD.

If you had a 56x ROM, I'd say you'd better use a 52x one. But since you have 52x already, I'd say it's a frequent problem on Win98 and Win98SE. But, if you have WinXP, then this problem is related to some other software, as said by sven. I'm sure this problem does not occur on a newly installed WinXP. But if it does, then your ROM is partially corrupted and needs a repair. Particularily, it's the rubber band.
