  2. Has anybody used AutoPatcher XP v 4.0 Gold? Released now is v4.5 (Feb. 2004)!
  3. Well! This application is embarrassing! One can't tell its installation package type. This is why no contribution was provided for it, as I think. However, I tried some switches including -s, -R, and /S. The last one worked well except two problems: 1- Windows File Protection (WFP) appeared to ask for restoring files as you can see here: http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/wfp.htm 2- The installation program asked for reboot [Yes/No], as you know. Therefore, we should disable WFP first, using the method on the link above. If we do this, the first problem is solved. For the second problem, we can use the taskkill.exe command. So, our batch file may include this: ECHO. ECHO Installing Longhorn Transformation pack 4.0 ECHO Please wait... start /wiat "%systemdrive%\Install\LHTP4\Longhorn Transformation pack 4.0.exe" /S taskkill.exe /F /IM xxxxxxx.exe ECHO. "xxxxxxx" stands for the running application name. To know what to type in place of xxxxxxx, first install the application as usual, and before pressing "Yes" or "No" for a reboot, press Alt+Ctrl+Delete to run Task Manager and catch the running application name. As you know, it's not necessarily the same name of the program. Give it a try! I'm sure it works. As for me, when I tried it, WFP wasn't disabled on my computer. Also, System Restore was turned off, so no "Last Good Configuration" could be used! The Last Good Configuration for me was the same as the Last Bad Configuration! So, prepared with my Windows XP SP1 CD Key, I stayed up reinstalling Windows again. However, my applications and everything remained. Only the system was reinstalled.
  4. Disappointed?! Well! There is still a hope. Go to this page and read carefully: http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/wfp.htm If you do it right, use the second method (/S). But, try it first before coying it into your CD. I hope it works well!
  5. I don't know how to configure BlackICE to be silently installed through a setup.ini file. The setup.ini file has two phases: Pre-installation phase, where it contains the following: [startup] EnableLangDlg=Y AppName=BlackICE ProductGUID=76542ee3-5849-11d2-9c18-00609707c0ff [Languages] Default=0x0009 count=1 key0=0x0009 Post-installation phase, where it contains the following: [startup] EnableLangDlg=Y AppName=BlackICE ProductGUID=76542ee3-5849-11d2-9c18-00609707c0ff Engine=0 Copy=1 Source=0 [Languages] Default=0x0009 count=1 key0=0x0009 So what? I use a setup.iss file to do it since BlackICE uses InstallShield. And, the only problem is that AP doesn't have an entry in the setup.iss file. This is why I'm asking. Thank you, anyway.
  6. XL-DJK95355 That should be the best way! Can you give it more explanation? What cabs you replace, what about time stamp, size.. etc.
  7. Yes, there is. If you hate seeing a setup.iss file in Windows directory, use -R If you are ready to repair or reinstall Windows XP SP1, use /S
  8. Nobody here uses BlackICE?
  9. Sometimes we execute a command for copying files and find that nothing was copied. Also, we may have messages like these in case we use the PAUSE command: - The syntax of the command is incorrect - Access is denied. 0 file(s) copied. - Bad command or file name In case we don't use the PAUSE command, we won't get messages and won't get files copied over. Even if we use the "copy /y", copying might fail. Mostly, files we wanted to replace were system files, read-only files, or protected ".exe" files. Or, we might type paths or file names mistakenly. Whatever the cause is, I use WinRAR to make a silent SFX that forces files to be copied, either files replace others or don't. Example 1 ------------- Packing for extraction Suppose we want to copy a folder named "incoming" that contains files or folders or both. These are the steps: 1- Right-click the folder "incoming", wherever it is. 2- From the WinRAR shortcut menu, click Add to "incoming.rar". 3- Right-click the resulting archive "incoming.rar", and choose "Open". It should open in WinRAR. 4- Hit Alt+x on your keyboard. The SFX tab appears. Press the button "Advanced SFX options". 5- Under the "General" tab, in the field "the Path to extract", type this: %systemdrive%\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\ Don't add any quotation marks. Here, we assume that the folder "incoming" needs to be pasted inside the folder "VirusDefs". So, the back slash "\" is a must! 6- Still under the "General" tab, choose "Create in the current folder". So that the resulting SFX "incoming.exe" is put inside the folder where you work now. 7- Under the "Modes" tab, choose "Hide all" as a silent mode, "Overwrite all files" as an overwrite mode. Press "OK" for the "Advanced SFX options" dialogue box to close. 8- Press "OK" for the other dialogue box to close. Close WinRAR. Now, you should have a self-extracting archive of name "incoming.exe" with a familiar icon of a box with three books! 9- Delete the folder "incoming" and the archive "incoming.rar" as they are no longer needed. Now, if you run "incoming.exe", either directly or from a batch, it should execute silently without any switches, even if it replaces another folder of the same name and with the same contents. Other persons may have different methods. If so, please contribute.
  10. gosh Recently, I downloaded Update Rollup 1 to be slipstreamed into Windows XP SP1. But there are three additional files included in it after extraction. They are outside the folder "update". ntoskrnl.exe spmsg.dll spuninst.exe These are the files included in your guide: accwiz.exe crypt32.dll cryptsvc.dll hh.exe hhctrl.ocx hhsetup.dll html32.cnv itircl.dll itss.dll locator.exe magnify.exe migwiz.exe mrxsmb.sys msconv97.dll narrator.exe newdev.dll ntdll.dll ntkrnlmp.exe ntkrnlpa.exe ntkrpamp.exe ole32.dll osk.exe pchshell.dll raspptp.sys rpcrt4.dll rpcss.dll shdocvw.dll shell32.dll shmedia.dll srrstr.dll srv.sys sysmain.sdb urlmon.dll user32.dll win32k.sys winsrv.dll zipfldr.dll Should any modification be made to the ***.inf files accordingly?
  11. HardCopy Pro 2.22 ---------------------- ECHO. ECHO Installing HardCopy Pro 2.22 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\Install\HCPro222\HCSetup.exe "%systemdrive%\Program Files\HardCopy Pro" License.dlc HardCopy.ini The file HardCopy.ini is used to customize the program in advance, i.e., before running it for the first time. If you have already had this file, keep the string as it is. If you want to download mine, do it! Otherwise, delete this part at the end of string: HardCopy.ini Note: 1. It doesn't matter which typed first, License.dlc or HardCopy.ini 2. If you haven't got a License.dlc yet, delete License.dlc from the string. 3. Either you delete this or that, do not delete "%systemdrive%\Program Files\HardCopy Pro" 4. My HardCopy.ini states the Path and filename prefix for sequential save as: SavePath=D:\HardCopy\HC. It also states my 15"-monitor size as MonitorSize=3. So, make the changes that fit your situation. HardCopy.ini
  12. FastFolders v3.0 ------------------ ECHO. ECHO Installing FastFolders v3.0 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\install\FFolders\FFSetup.exe "%systemdrive%\Program Files\FastFolders" License.dlc EDIT: 1. If you haven't got a License.dlc yet, delete License.dlc from the string. 2. If you decide to delete it, do not delete "%systemdrive%\Program Files\FastFolders"
