  2. That depends if 1&1 doesn't auto renew the domain. Some domain registrar will auto renew the domain and if you don't pay it they keep the domain for a year. If they don't renew it the normal length of time form when it available to be re-registered is usually 60-90 days.
  3. Well I'll be... Thanks, that worked perfect.
  4. Does anyone know how to add the effect of a photo turned sideways like the above photo in photoshop cs?
  5. On domain registration? Unfortunately no because our domain registration is already one of the lowest around and it's not a major overhead profitable item for most companies.
  6. wow thats such a big expectation. max ppl who visited MSFN at one time and msfn i believe eats a lof of bandwidth like maybe 100gig? xper? xperties? so i really really do think u're flying high start with something smaller then upgrade it i'm on emaxhosting, have my free ipb v1 board as u know, emax gives for 3.95 so i'd suggest u start with that.. **** i should read more carefully, u actually want to own a server and want ppl connect to your machine, is that right? lots and lots of ram dual xeon scsi hdds that should be enough but erm for 2000ppl at the same time u also need a frigging fast internet dude!!! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks for the plug but with a board that busy any hosting provider will tell them they need a dedicated server. In fact we would kick you off our servers almost instant. MSFN has less than your expectations and they run this site on a dual xeon and it's all dedicated to run MSFN. Shared hosting is not something you can expect to find for a website/forums that big.
  7. neil - nice advertisement plug using an affiliate link. Astalavista - http://www.emaxhosting.com - You can register domain names at $8.95 per year.
  8. OMFG!!!!!!!! FthrJACK...is still alive!!! Sorry for going off topic but I got all fuzzy inside when I saw my old buddy post something.

  11. i don't wanna be smartass but its up there, though i cannot say much if u've read it and want more details <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry I should have been more specific. Where or who told you that you can not store clients information outside the UK? Being in the industry I have never heard of this regulation and I deal with partners who run businesses in the UK and around the area.
  12. 403 is a forbidden error and doesn't always mean it's a permission error. For example if you uploaded perl files in binary mode, that causes 403 errors. Secondly as an administrator, I highly suggest you NOT mess with the public_html folder. You should send in a support request to your host to see if they have an issue related to 403 error. From my past experiences there can be a file protection issue related to the server that needs to be fixed.
  13. Why are you limited to the UK, if you don't mind me asking?
  14. m&m's top or bottom?
  15. Thanks. For lazy people the active link is http://www.emaxhosting.com Although you are right, it takes more than that to run a successful business. It's always advisable to look for real feedback from a companies clients. *plug* http://www.findmyhosting.com/showrating.asp?id=6550
  16. action kill or get killed?
  17. I'm well aware of how gaming would slow down hosting and would never imagine having a game on a shared/reseller server. Been in business long enough to know that but thank you for your advice. My main concern right now is to see how the load runs with a few people on a server, test the specs of all servers and see how the new gaming software I'm using works. I'll work on Call of Duty and set things up and then post the game info.
  18. I'm looking into gaming servers and running a few beta scripts. The following games are available for testing but I don't want to create games for all of them so I'd like to get some feedback on which game more people have so I can set that one up and we can slam the server and see if we can crash it or see if it can take our abuse. Which one? Half-Life / Half-Life 2 / UT2004 / Call of Duty / Savage / Enemy Terrirtory I'll give this a few days to try to get as much feedback as possible, I'll configure things and then set the date.
  19. When I spoke about frames I was referring to this page: http://www.planetabeo.com/packages.php WHM.Autopilot is a billing system. It allows your client to sign up for hosting packages, installs their accounts on your server, sends out a welcome e-mail that has all their login details. It also generates invoices and bills your clients each month. It works with real merchant accounts and paypal. Not having a terms of services is the most dangerous thing not to have. You should have a TOS, AUP and SLA. If you don't you are only asking for trouble. Good luck.
  20. Shopping carts is one thing, accepting payments is another. Like MSNwar said, paypal is what you should look at or a real merchant account.
  21. Something you should keep in mind... [1] You should never use frames on your website. Some browsers have issues with them and it's not very professional coding. [2] Always have a very easy to find "Terms of Service" or "Acceptable usage Policy" so your client can review it before they sign up. Also the background, dark blue to light blue to lighter blue. I would think it be better if you took dark blue and faded into the last light blue instead of 3 solid blocks of colors. The bottom of each page just cuts off. You should code a closing more curved bottom (referring to where the copyright 2004 is). Your space in the package box on the left...Place some right padding and left padding in your CSS so the text isn't directly on the edges. It would seem you are going to use cPanel. For beginners I highly suggest http://www.whmautopilot.com for a billing/client management system. It also has a support desk built in which you can use.
  22. Regarding image hosting, You forgot Image Paradise. Although the BB can't be used on MSFN because of dynamic tags, you can still store images for free.
  23. So sad to see it go.
