  1. Sweet.. been looking for an option like this. I have been having to live with deleting the partition first then recreating it.. Worse yet, if you have two partitions on the drive like my setup: 1. Small windows partition to just wipe each time I reinstlal 2. Storage and Program Files this setup really gets screwed up if you use windows setup to delete and recreate the first partiton. Normally windows will look at the first partition and default to install windows and boot loader (ntldr) there. If you delete the first partition and recreate it without restarting setup, it will see the 2nd partition as the first and still let you isntall to the first like C:\Windows. Problem is it will put the boot loader on the 2nd partition anyway. So then, both partions are tied into the windows install. You cant mess with either of them in windows without it saying like "You can not make changes to this partition as this is the drive windows is instlled on"... (or something like that) Onward, if you have more then one physical drive, windows will also suddenly associate the 2nd drive with C: and the first drives partition with D: or E: (i know it doesnt matter, but I am used to to having boot partition always be C:, much like may older program isntallers) Anyway, as I started, sweet!!!!!!!!!!
  2. yup, everytime I used a unattended file (winnt.sif) and tried to add the driver by useing f6 and a floppy (vs. integrating them in cd) it would give the error described. It only seems to be with the SI drivers. Hightpoint, Promise, you name it all work fine doing this, but not SI's.
  3. I have seen this problem for a long time on several peoples machine with Silicon Images drivers.. (I personally use a Promise based card , drivers are so sweet) anyway.. yes, they integrate fine, but if you use f6 to load the drivers while still using a unnatended setup, they dont work. It will loose track of a file somehow.
  4. @voltaic Sweet.. I was hoping to try what you did some day. Had the idea of doing it as I wanted to fit PE and XP Setup on a single cd along with some added extra to PE. Oh yeah.. just realised I got a gold star too!
  5. Here is a bit of an alternative idea... XP setup can access most, if not all, compressed files (in file names xxxxx.xx_) if they are or are not compressed. It would be a lot of work. But you could uncompress the files in xp setup's i386 folder that match the files PE uses. Then use cd image as usuall. This will only be of so much value. You may have to compare the space lost to the new files that are not compressed but saved space gained by cdimage doing its magic. This might save some space compared to having the compressed file for xp setup and the uncompressed file for PE on the same disk.

I know the owner of the site had some issues with hosting (switched to different host), but I can't find the new site. It was a great site with an awsome forum regarding many things. One of them being Bart's PE Builder.. Anyone have any insight on the current situation?
  8. @Dutchy This may seem like an odd question to start with... but... What antivirus are you using?
  9. @daMANiack I assume you burnt AIO SP1 to dvd? Or were you somehow able to fit all of them to a single cd? Bet I can do using cdimage.exe is a little above 900mb.
  10. I use pro because, well, it is what I bought.. I use very liitlle of the "features" gained by having pro.. Speaking of those features, the CD burning in Windows XP's explorer based burning is so horrid, tried it maybe once after each "update" came out for it, then went back to using nero for even the simplist things that the explorer based burning addition should have been able to do.
  11. 1) the dotnetfx folder only contains 1.0, not 1.1. They do offer a redistributable, which is fine to download. Dot net isn't at the point where its needed on the cd. When longhorn comes, it will be, since everything is based on it. The version in Longhorn is meant to be the real offical version. The ones out now are more trial to fix most of the problems. 2) When switching from 1.1 to 1.0 some programs may break. It is rare, but is know to happen. This may be the case here. I really haven't checked, but that may be why. 1st Yes it is available for download.. it is quite commonly used in many of the non MS programs I use. 2nd If you get the msdn cd of sp2 update the new dotnetfx folder contains version 1.1, not 1.0. Finally.. .net runtimes are nothing more then what the vb runtimes of the past to me. Something countless programs needed but were always one more download to get the latest verison of it. They should have just called it VB7 runtime library... My point is.. maybe windows xp itself doesnt need it to be installed for normal use, but it is commonly required for many modern apps that I, for one, instlall and use within windows xp. At 250+ mb they should have gone the rest of the way and integrated the deistributeable into the download.
  12. 2 things.. 1st MS should make the DOTNETFX folder available for download similair to support tools for the public, not just MSDN. They made it and are pushing use of it in programming so they should support it a little better. 2nd Why havent they updated netfx.cab that Tablet PC and MCE use to 1.1 yet?
  13. or if you can track down the msdn iso of sp2 update it has it on there.
  14. agreed.... disable the firewall and almost all of them will work fine.. Use some other firewall of course.
  15. I have experienced some problems with some of the games mentioned. Usually it was because the dialog asking to allow the game through the firewall comes up too late, like when the game is already gone to full screen. In these cases I just manually add an exception for the game before starting it.
  16. @arablizzard2413 Too freaky Just to be sure, you used a VLK on a Home Edition Retail CD and in actually installed? Now that is something weird...
  17. Actually.. It is very likely possible. Picking out the left overs that xp setup doesnt need after sp2 is slipstreamed could be a bit difficult, but possible. The fact that it is sp1 has no play in matter, it wouyld work fine if it was a normal sp1 cd.. If the OEM added hotfixes or whatever, you may need to remove those..
  18. There is a large thread started elseware in this forum.. I cant remember where right now, but I will look... Wait.. I found it here This patch is really not needed. Programs can make more then 10 connections, compared to what has been reported on the net. Anyway, see the post linked to above. Updated... There is a new version (2.0c vs. 2.0b) on lvllord's site. Note, on his site the reference to "half-open" connections. It will have a purpose and use to some people, but many people will not really need it.
  19. @BenjaminKalytta Ah, my mistake... was looking at %SystemRoot%\Documents And Settings\NewUser All is good
  20. no prob.. thanks for the attempt
  21. @MCT Correct.. sorta.. %userprofile% will get you "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%" This will not work for a new user path as it would alway come up as "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator" if you were running WIHU under the Administrator account. I am looking for in the interactive mode of WIHU to take the user name I enter on the very top of page, say "bilemke", and fill in all the other paths with a default. Like HOMEPATH would fill in after tabing out of the username box and say "\Documents and Settings\bilemke"... Else it can result in a lot of typing.. Maybe even adding a "Browse" button next to each box...
  22. Finally got to reading about all the activity with WIHU... Great job Benjamin Kalytta! Been playing with it for a few hours, something I would love to see... When creating a user interactively, instead of by using users.ini, would it be possible for all of the user related paths to default to the usering root profile directory like "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\%shellfolder%"? Ideally dynamically find this so if it windows is not installed to "C:" it would locate the proper directory.. I know many people probably use your program as a way to make the user account store on some other drive letter, but I often leave mine in the default location.
  23. @Jazkal I wish I knew too.. Your going to need some very good skills with a debugger to try and find it, if it is possible at all. That, or soemone else finds it first and shares the knowledge Then we can just download a file or do some small hexediting hopefully.
  24. They probably want to make sure there are no compatibility problems with Duke Nukem Forever. lol Duke Nukem Forever... hahaha Or perfecting the latest versions of notepad and solitare.. wouldn't want new firewall to interfere with those.. Anyway, I am supposed to be sleaping.. couldn't help myself...
  25. Seeing as last I remembered c-net is in the United States an that news bit was posted at psat 10 p.m.... well..
