  2. Of course you'll lose your update history. My suggestion was to make an image of your OS partition to revert back at any time you want. I can restore my whole system in less than a half hour (very old computer, very slow). Your Windows Update history is located in "DataStore.edb". So you can backup this file at first. In your Windows Update Log you can see clearly: 2022-01-27 12:28:48:824 1860 1560 Agent *********** Agent: Initializing Windows Update Agent *********** 2022-01-27 12:28:48:824 1860 1504 Report WARNING: Reporter failed to upload events with hr = 80240004. I guess there is a problem with your Windows Update Agent. I have added a link of "winUpdRestore!v28" right down at the bottom, a more recent version of "winUpdRestore!v23". I used it first. Then you have to reinstall Windows Update Agent. Resetting of SoftwareDistribution folder is not the same. I suggested you: After this procedure you have to reinstall "Restore_WU_XP_2003". Here you have to check if "install.cmd" did its job properly i.e. all commands in "install.cmd" have to be performed properly. Check the correct version of "wuaueng.dll" in both folder system32 and system32\dllcache. Check if all registry entries have been added. If not do it manually by creating a reg file for importing necessary entries from "install.cmd" and copying wuaueng.dll first in folder system32\dllcache and then in folder system32. And what about some posts before where So a lot to do! https://www.mediafire.com/file/xn2a1rlriapkhym/winUpdRestore%21v28.zip/file

At first WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe and then WindowsUpdateAgent-7.6-x86.exe using the option /WUforce e.g. WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86 /WUforce and WindowsUpdateAgent-7.6-x86 /WUforce. For resetting Windows Update there is a nice tool I used when I had problems with MU. It's called winUpdRestore!v23. If you don't have it or you can't find it I can upload for you. These steps would have been my next suggestions for you in any case. I did these steps definitely when I fixed my system. You should backup your partition by making an image using Norton Ghost for older computers and Aomei, Macrium or Acronis for newer ones if something is going wrong or you have to revert back. Hope we'll get ahead.

  5. You're absolutely right. My screenshot belongs to current user. When you compare yours to mine there is one thing strange and this is your Microsoft Root Cerificate Authority 2011. You have twice and I don't know why. If it were my system I would delete the one with "Friendly Name" <none>.

  6. Yes, all of them . Opera's own launcher and installer not needed (you only need your portable launcher) , also may throw away opera_autoupdate and opera_crashreporter . (!) How needs that ?

  7. @autodidact Thank you for the FFmpeg builds. Now, would you be so kind to update OpenSSL 64-bit dll's to 3.6.1? 🙏 This is an important security update.

  9. Thanks for the input. I'm going to give it a try. I liked what I read about it with respect to Windows 10 / 11. I didn't want to really use ZoneAlarm but that's how it worked out. It will probably be hard trying to get ZA off my computer with everything that it installs. Also thanks to NullEntity for the 'thumbs up' comment. ...

  10. Sometimes a reboot is necessary especially after changing system settings and configurations. And delete the Internet Explorer cache. By the way have you ever tried reregistering following components in the command prompt? Here if not: regsvr32 Softpub.dll /s regsvr32 Wintrust.dll /s regsvr32 Initpki.dll /s regsvr32 Mssip32.dll /s Your system is a brainteaser but a hard nut has to be cracked!

  11. Someone claims to have the "Logon Process Initialization Failure" for Haswell fixed . Beware , a very good English ahead . https://steamcommunity.com/app/498240/discussions/0/143388132201481545/

  12. Have you ever heard of KB977675 ? "The issue occurs because of a deadlock between a thread in Windows NT File System driver (Ntfs.sys) and a thread in the Autochk.exe program." I have something similar (from time to time) with Haswell and SP1/SP2 , I can summon task manager and just start the explorer , though. I wouldn't say it bothers me a lot , but sometimes it just hangs up or shows this "famous" logon failure. I'd like to add , RTM is much less affected. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/microsoft-releases-fix-for-windows-vista-black-screen

  14. Replace all files in your x86 portable version with the extracted files from Opera 72 (64 bit) from the link I gave you . Extract with 7zip . I have a fully working Opera , it works 100% percent ! Also you need to add the flag to the shortcut , win32 wrote about (scroll to the earlier comments). Don't forget to like and ask , don't be shy xD . Edit : This works if you replaced the kernel in your system already . If you use the local method , I gave you full instructions earlier.

  16. Yep , you're right , Vista Home Premium ! I do not remember the exact model . Yes , it was HP Pavilion with a thin remote control . The temps were fine , esp. at idle , I remember I was playing Dungeon Siege 2 when it caught fire . I never had it overheated . It was standing on my table , the air conditiong was on. P.S. You see , the same as I was told "HP cheaped out on the cooler". I also had an HP printer which went bad after a year ! They lost a customer , I do not by anything from them since .

  17. Any idea why x86 systems don't have that problem with Haswell ? By the way , I'm not sure if you remeber , back in the day (I think in 2007 Vista already had the exact same black screen of death on some systems , they even had a patch , but it was deleted from servers. It had the SAME logon failure error. Some people wrote that the reason was the changed activation process , I do not know if that's true . I never had it with my Core Quad during that days. Take a look here : https://www.gfisk.com/windows-vista-logon-screen-of-death/
