  1. I was never able to correctly open all *.???x files with either Office XP or Office 2003 using the Compatibility Pack. As a result, I moved to Office 2010 with UBitMenu. Another problem with Excel on these previous versions of Office is that they were unable to correctly handle more complicated spreadsheets, such as Glenn Reeves' Excel IRS Form 1040.

  2. Detailed explanation of this issue on WinXP SP3: https://github.com/3dyd/pyinstaller-builds/issues/2#issuecomment-3464525813 Excerpt form PyInst-6.0.0 documentation: https://pyinstaller.org/en/v6.0.0/CHANGES.html#incompatible-changes The psapi.dll in question (with the missing function) is the system one, while the one inside the "_internal" dir (which isn't being loaded when PyInst-6.16.0-xpmod has been used) is PSAPI.DLL, one of the four wrapper DLLs (kernelXP.dll, ntextl.dll, psapi.dll, ws2_xx.dll) that are used to backport py3.11.4 to XP ...

  3. Or you could copy a Psapi.dll with that API (Vista/ROS/Wine/KernelEx) to the local directory. Patching might be the best option -- this is one case where dropping the "Ex" from the end actually works (same three parameters). Using a hex editor, change "QueryWorkingSetEx" to "QueryWorkingSet" by replacing the "Ex" with two nulls.

  4. My Office is 2007, so I may not be of much help. But maybe this will fix your issue (article cites your exact issue but on Windows 2000) -- https://superuser.com/questions/1504407/office-2003-cant-open-newer-office-files More specifically, solution was to use "version 2" of the compatibility pack (linked in superuser article) -- https://www.malavida.com/en/soft/microsoft-office-compatbility-pack/download

  5. Hi @maile3241 What do you think about people asking for assistance but being too lazy or whatever in writing reasonable posts? I don't understand that and it annoys me. We all do that to help other people just for fun. But in these cases there is no fun! Apart from that, it is also a question of respect and that's really lacking in some cases, in my opinion!

  6. Hi @cc333, I have never noticed that you've read and liked my guide. But thanks for reading and apparently liking! Usually there is a little button called "Like" to let me know that. Anyway, I think we are talking about my "Complete guide for restoring Microsoft Update in IE". I already wrote it in 21th of January. Due to new facts, modifications and reorder of some steps I've updated it in the last two days and for now it's finished. The linking to other posts is very important to get additional and necessary information. But could you be more specific relating to your request "if you have any input"? What kind of input do you need? And where shall these html sites be mirrored to? You see, a lot of questions we have to talk about. And forget about any old versions of my guide. The only interesting version is the current one. So long! Kind regards, AstroSkipper

  7. Sorry, no! Truth to be told it's not really ok. In an very old OS you are using a very old unsupported version of IE6 and an unsecure version of ProxHTTPSProxyMII due to lacking of SHA256 capability of signing. Just for fun on some very safe sites for testing purpose only, it's ok. But for more it's just a no go. In this case you need a more recent and secure browser which supports Windows 2000. But anyway, congrats for restoring access to MU web site! The impossible is possible as you can see!

  8. You are using an unsecure proxy version. ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a (20150527) should only be used to access MU. For surfing you need a more secure browser. For more information about these proxies you can read my article:

  9. If you want to disable SFC in future times, you have to do in this way: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/85098-how-2-disable-windows-2000-sp3s-file-protection/?do=findComment&comment=996683 There are a lot of those guides in the WWW.

  10. When I restored MU web site in Windows XP, I had the same problem. You can disable SFC by patching a system file.

  11. Hi to all, to avoid unnecessary questions and problems while trying to restore access to MU web site, I have modified and updated the content of my guide "Complete guide for restoring Microsoft Update in IE". Now all steps have been fully numbered for better reference and the order has been corrected to avoid problems when completing all steps. Any assistance should be much easier now! Furthermore I think this will increase the probability of success for all people trying to follow the guide. Any opinions or suggestions for improvement are always welcome. Here is the link once again: Kind regards, AstroSkipper

  12. I do not use Windows 2000 but afaik MU can be restored there too. Go some pages back and read the conversation between @maile3241 and @WULover.

  13. What shall I say? You're welcome! Of course! BTW I assume the button "Check for Updates" worked for me in the past because automatic ActiveX download was present at that time. What do you think? I did not have such problems which have been reported here.
