  1. No. There is nothing to be modified. Geforce 4MX 440 is a DirectX 7.1 videocard. While Windows 7 need hardware support of Direct X 9 with 2.0 shaders. Your videocard predate windows 7 on 7 years, and use DirectX from year 2000 with no shader processors at all. To have normal 3D hardware acceleration on AGP system with windows 7 you need Geforce 6 or 7 series videocards or radeon analogues - X800 (unnoficially), X1xxx, x2xxx, x3xxx with AGP port.

  2. Before 2010 change for 4K size of physical cluster consumer HDD was ALWAYS from the begging of they mass production in early 1980's - a 512 bytes drives. Meaning they physical sector size was 512 bytes. Thus why all windows OS before Vista formatted them with correct alignment by default. It was the only alignment. If you talk about windows OS - apparently NO. As i understand you are confused why NTFS use 4K CLUSTER size as standard even where sectors were 512 bytes? Am i right? The explanation that i read is next: As far as i understand the 4K cluster size in NTFS system before 2010 year 4K FORMAT era was because CPU native minimal memory page size is 4K. The 4K memory page was standard first in late 1970's with VAX and ОS VMS. In x86 CPU world support of 4K memory page was introduced in 1985 with Intel 386. So as i remember the explanation why NTFS use standard cluster size of 4K - it is minimal memory page size of modern popular CPU's. Thus why later, when better efficiency of storage of information was in discussion, 4K as native physical sector size was obvious choice.

  6. *Of course* hard drives park the heads OFF the platters, away from them. The question is, was the drive under the circumstances that could affect the condition of the emergency parking spring. EDIT: Not to double post, not long ago, I already explained to another user what happens in an emergency case, look it up at my account.

  7. Any repair is much more expensive and prone to the future failures than getting a new drive. If you want to restore the info, there's no guarantee it's not damaged beyond the point where it makes no sense, especially seeing what you describe about the condition,

  8. While I understand your frustration, I'm pretty sure everyone was serious. I also wanna know if there's a virus scan on the forum, just for the future. We can't trust a random person on the internet. It's not only about you. You're the least of concerns and interests. At least three people reported that over 7KB difference in your image. So?

  9. Quick update: It's been a month since I reported this issue and provided the developer with a video capture demonstrating the behavior. I have heard nothing further from the developer. I'm not familiar with the frequency of updates for the product and/or communication from the developer, so I don't know what's normal. A major reason for my interest in StartAllBack (vertical taskbar) is now seeing support from a competitor, so I'll keep my eyes open here for future updates, but it's looking less likely that I'll be patiently waiting for this to be fixed.

  10. Well, after all, diskat-gui.exe is old program, more then decade old. And your SSD is new. So maybe it's detect wrong. So better use AS SSD test program - it is far more informative and is new, because it's constantly been updated. Please test your SSD with this program and make and upload here screenshot of AS SSD benchmark result. Here is a picture describing what is what in AS SSD interface:

  11. Just a small hint. My custom button is called PMT - Process Mode Toggler. It toggles the process mode and is therefore a toggler. Back to your statement. If you really want to install the Custom Buttons extension for only one custom button without any deeper interest in Mypal 68 anyway, since you are a user who always deletes everything after a short time, then it's not worth the effort at all. This extension actually only makes sense if you want to retrofit missing features or if you plan to replace a lot of extensions by custom buttons which have only a very low resource consumption and are much less restricted than webextensions. These custom buttons can do things which webextensions are not allowed to do . And especially my self-created custom buttons do exactly what I want them to do.

  13. @NotHereToPlayGames BTW, such a legacy Custom Buttons extension I have already provided in September of 2022 in my thread "Extensions and custom buttons for UXP browsers - Corrections, modifications, adjustments, and special recommendations" which can be found here: Custom Buttons - The extension for installing custom buttons. As already said, this version cannot be installed in Mypal 68. And here are more of those old Custom Buttons extensions you are referring to which are all incompatible with Mypal 68: https://sourceforge.net/projects/custombuttons/files/ Can be checked very easily. The good is you won't "have to dig through stacks and stacks and stacks of DVD-Rs" to find your Custom Buttons extension because with a probability bordering on certainty, those old versions, if you ever find any, won't either work in Mypal 68.

  15. You're very welcome! As an advice to a friend, there's a much higher chance to get a decent HDD inside of My Book, and then simply throw the box away. It will save you money. It's usually cheaper than buying a retail dive. But like I said, please do a research, people oftenly post photos of what they get inside of that box.

  16. Actually it was 15 years ago. It is a minor problem for windows XP cause by default XP will format with cluster size of 512 bytes, and also not aligned to disk 4K advanced format sectors because: HDD will suffer speed penalty from wrong cluster size and misalignment much more then SSD. But if your HDD and SSD correctly formatted with 4K cluster and aligned correctly - there will be normal fast work with winXP. I use with winXP both HDD and SSD that are 4K Advanced Format devices - i create partitions on them using program mentioned below - program that works under windows XP and give ability, when formatting disk\partition to set 4K cluster size and correct alignment. There is a method to format disk in 4K with command prompt in winXP, but i never used it and instead use 2 programs to check alignment and format in 4K with correct alignment. The first program is MiniTool Partition Wizard Server Edition 7.8, - it can format drive correctly with 4K size of cluster and set correct alignment, and also can aligned correctly already existing partition. If you want this program in Server Edition write me Personal Message i will give you a link. The Home Edition is free and can be downloaded via wayback machine - http://web.archive.org/web/20140904082151/https://www.partitionwizard.com/download/pwhe7.exe The second program is Disk Alignment Test - very simple program, it just checks are your partitions and disks correctly aligned. It is free and you can download it via wayback machine http://web.archive.org/web/20160221100017/http://diskat.net/

  17. I don't think so. It should support Windoes Vista as well. Did you try to install it under Windows Vista? Anyway! Here is a quotation taken from the AVG support site: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=AVG-Windows-XP-Vista-support-FAQ&supportType=home

  18. OT: I am a cat lover and prefer the assumption that Schrödinger's cat is in a living state despite an existing Heisenbergian uncertainty. And, to be on topic again, all that means I prefer an antivirus program in a working state under Windows XP. Ultimately, it all depends on empirical measurement. AstroSkipper

  19. But first it would have to be clarified whether Webroot SecureAnywhere 9.0.27.49 still receives current virus definitions at all. And how good the protection is, of course. Additionally, you also have to buy a licence as there is no free version.

  20. Avast v18.8 antivirus products are still getting virus definition updates. Here is a link where you can even download offline virus database updater called Avast VPS update: https://www.avast.com/download-update#pc Cheers, AstroSkipper

  21. so it supports it but also does not support it? I'm confused then does it work on xp? Webroot SecureAnywhere 9.0.27.49 is supposed to be the last XP-compatible version according to the manufacturer. Whether the virus definitions can still be updated must of course be checked. Webroot SecureAnywhere 9.0.33.35 is supposed to be the most recent version and does not support Windows XP anymore. You need Windows 7 at least.
