  1. Why would those, who don't have free-speech at home, be given free-speech at the international arena? More of a rhetorical question.

  2. Inside the xpi file of IP Geolocator, one could restrict the size of the toolbar icon to a certain, desired value. I did that several times in terms of legacy extensions, and I assume it could be similar when it comes to webextensions. My credo: What doesn't fit, is made to fit. PS: And thanks for noticing my "typo"! TBH, it wasn't a typo but German spelling. Suddenly, and for no reason at all, I was of the opinion that the word interval is spelled the same in English as in German. Stuff happens! Dementia?

My credo: What doesn't fit, is made to fit. @VistaLover I had a look inside the IP Geolocator xpi file. I think I have an idea how the problem with the size of the the toolbar flag might be fixed when using the Photonic theme in Serpent 52. If the standard theme is selected, the flag is sized correctly. So, it seems to be a problem caused by the Photonic theme. Anyway! Interested in fixing it?

  4. And many thanks for pointing me to IP Geolocator! I will have a look at it. At the moment, I am writing from my Android tablet, but later, back at my desktop computer, I will check this extension immediately.

  6. Thanks, I´ve removed the link. The laptop I´ve got Windows 8.1 on has a prehistoric SIS display adapter that Bsods on W10+, so I`m stuck. Luckly MS will be realeasing updates untill 2026 for Server 2012 R2...

  7. Be careful.. We're not supposed to mention that tool. But it's good to know it's working. I'm a tad spoiled over at Windows 8 Land. Here I just download and install. I have apparently two more updates coming my way. I'm not sure if what is considered to be "unspoken" will work in my case beyond that, however, I was going to stop updating Windows after October's final patch. I'll just keep updating Firefox ESR 115, and manually updating Windows Defender as long as possible. After that, I'll retire Windows 8 at the close of 2024.

  8. I also noticed this behaviour in the past. I assume it depends on the VPN provider and the established VPN connection. Sometimes, it happens very quickly and sometimes, it takes a few seconds longer. And I can confirm, with my real/default (German) IP address, the current external IP is shown immediately.

  9. You're welcome! Glad to hear it is working for you as advertised by me. In the moment, when you click onto the toolbar icon, your current external IP is shown directly. Therefore, a button such as "Check Now" does not really make sense to me. What I can do is to try adding further time intervals as fractions of a minute. For example, 0.05 Min for 3 Sec. Interested?

  10. Check My IP Address & Location - A fork of the HMA! IP Checker extension, made by AstroSkipper HMA! IP Checker, created by HMA, was my favourite extension for checking the external IP and displaying its location. It directly showed the external IP and the corresponding country flag of its location by clicking onto its toolbar icon. Furthermore, it was able to alert external IP changes and to log them. HMA stopped developing this extension in 2015 and has not been offering it for many years. It seems to have been completely removed from their website in 2015. Unfortunately, HMA! IP Checker stopped working properly some months ago. It was no longer able to show the associated country flag of the external IP. Therefore, I decided to fix this extension in the form of a private project. But first, a few commented screenshots of HMA! IP Checker 2.0.2 for a later comparison to my fork: The red arrow points to the missing, associated country flag. The red arrows point to advertisement and to a link to the HMA website. Here, you can see, not all entries are available easily in the dropdown menu which is unfortunately displayed truncated (red arrow). And here are download links for HMA! IP Checker 2.0.2 which are also the source files for my fork: Download link for HMA! IP Checker 2.0.2 via Classic Add-ons Archive: https://caa.zetamex.com/xul/410/410358/hide_my_ass_ip_checker-2.0.2-fx.xpi?origin=caa&action=download Download link for HMA! IP Checker 2.0.2 via Wayback Machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20170914162156/https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/hide-my-a**-ip-checker/type:attachment/addon-410358-latest.xpi?src=dp-btn-primary While fixing the extension HMA! IP Checker, I noticed a further bug in the size of the Log & Alert window. And I decided to remove some code and to add new functions. All this led me to the decision to make a fork of HMA! IP Checker. And although the project was actually of a private nature, I nevertheless decided to make it available to the public. Therefore, I tried to make a proper fork with my own branding and identification. I also kept the reference to the MPL-2.0 licence. As already mentioned in the headline of this article, the name of my fork is Check My IP Address & Location and will be available in the version 1.2 (Edit: The latest version is from now on 1.3, see further below). If you are now wondering why the version number is 1.2, it is because the previous versions were purely private. But first of all, a few screenshots of Check My IP Address & Location 1.2 together with corresponding explanations: As you can see, the associated country flag is shown again. Here you can see the changes I made by adding the service Geotool. Clicking onto the button Show leads to this new tab: The service Geotool provides a lot of information about the geographic location of the current external IP. The Log & Alert window was enlarged by me. I added a 1 Min and 5 Min interval for checking as requested by users of the abandoned HMA! IP Checker extension long time ago. And you can see, all entries are now available in the dropdown menu which is no longer displayed truncated. All is shown by the red arrows. This is the standard toolbar icon of Check My IP Address & Location. And this is what the toolbar icon looks like when an IP change is alerted. List of all features of Check My IP Address & Location: Check current external IP. Show the associated country flag. Show the geographic location of the external IP. Show more information provided by the service Geotool in a new tab or window. Alert if the external IP changes. Set different time intervals for checking of IP changes. Have a look at the log of the last external IPs. Changelog of Check My IP Address & Location 1.2, compared to HMA! IP Checker 2.0.2: Missing country flag in the IP Address window fixed. Unnecessary code removed. Service Geotool added to the button Show in the IP Address window. Wrong size of the Log & Alert window and truncated dropdown menu fixed. New time intervals for alerting added. Compatibility entries to different browsers updated and added. Changelog of Check My IP Address & Location 1.3, compared to Check My IP Address & Location 1.2: Four further time intervals for checking IP changes added: 1 Sec, 5 Sec, 10 Sec and 30 Sec. Here is a screenshot: Here is the link to the MPL-2.0 licence I kept when I created my fork: https://opensource.org/license/mpl-2-0/ And here you can get the latest version of my fork Check My IP Address & Location: Download link for the extension Check My IP Address & Location 1.3: https://www.mediafire.com/file/xvmk2ntk0f4i2e7/Check_My_IP_Address_%26_Location-1.3-pm.xpi/file Version history: Check My IP Address & Location 1.0 (14-10-2022) Initial, private build Check My IP Address & Location 1.1 (04-08-2023) Private build Check My IP Address & Location 1.2 (08-08-2023) First public release. Download link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/72755xbjfipa5h3/Check_My_IP_Address_%26_Location-1.2-pm.xpi/file Check My IP Address & Location 1.3 (11-09-2023) Second public release Download link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/xvmk2ntk0f4i2e7/Check_My_IP_Address_%26_Location-1.3-pm.xpi/file The extension Check My IP Address & Location is my fork of the extension HMA! IP Checker. I tested it successfully in New Moon 28, Serpent 52 and Serpent 55. After months of testing, I didn't notice any problems or bugs. The extension Check My IP Address & Location, contrary to the original HMA! IP Checker, is fully working. For all those who want or need to know exactly which external IP they are connecting with, especially all users of VPN services, this extension is absolutely perfect. My recommendation for setting the time interval to check IP changes is the 1 Sec interval (only available in the version 1.3). If you use this interval, the detection of an IP change takes place without any significant delay (at most 5 seconds for VPN connections, almost no delay for direct connections). However, if you find errors or other problems, please report them here in my thread! Any feedback in the form of commenting, liking or upvoting is of course welcome at any time. Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper

  11. Hello @WSC4! Alternatively, you can check my article ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use under the section 5.2. There you can find everything important about Root Certificates. And under the section 11.2.4, you will find all downloads related to Root Certificates, including my most recent, self-created Root Certificate and Revoked Certificate Updaters for offline use. 13. And these values tell me that on old, underpowered computers with a 32-bit processor and Windows XP, the 360Chrome 13.5 build 2022 browser is not an option. This browser needs a 64-bit processor which old, "period correct" computers don't have.

  15. Just for clarification! Unfortunately, there is no "no-tab-open" browser mode. I'm afraid browsers such as 360Chrome 13.5 or bnavigator without tabs are either not yet open or already closed . I think you mean a browser started with one empty tab only. Anyway! The RAM consumption in Windows XP with only one empty tab opened and only one extension (uBlock Origin) installed are: bnavigator (single-process mode): 145 MB 360Chrome 13.5 build 2022: 750 MB Cheers, AstroSkipper

  17. This is an Older NT-Family OSes discussion. As such, there will always be a LAG with "cutting edge". Basically, "we don't care" about the LAG being YEARS. We have our JUSTIFIABLE reasons for using Older NT-Family OSes. I'd still be using Opera 10, if it worked ! And I did - 'till the end. BTW, I don't know how modern Chrome looks on XP, but it still looks the same on Vista (with aero), and it all that matters. So why not use it ? I don't want to get into arguments, but obviously we use a different set of websites. You of all know, I loved this browser when it made sense for me.

  19. Is this considered to be normal for chinese made browsers produced in 2020 to consume almost 1gig of RAM with 1 empty page ? Either of you ever wondered what's inside ? Maybe debug ? I mean , @AstroSkipper is right - this is not normal, and I think he was the first who noticed.

  20. On my old Windows XP computer, I use all my browsers in single-process mode only. Even Mypal 68. Firefox 1.0 was released 2002 with tab browsing. And old Opera versions did also tab browsing, even in 2001 and earlier.

  21. Your old computer seems to be what I defined with period correct hardware. What kind of RAM is it? My old Windows XP computer is equipped with slow SDRAM only. Would be interesting to see if you can run 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022 on it. In my system, it consumes with only one empty tab round about 800 MB of RAM after starting.

  24. 1 - From what I remember when I used this browser, it had its own dark theme. Where is it now !?!? 2 - It mostly depends on the overall speed of your PC, HDD and RAM speed in particular. I have a short white splash with chrome 102 (only upon cold boot) and then zero of them. With the old 13.5 I had zero of them.

  25. I wrote what doesn't work on imdb in my reply, it's the dark mode. The pages are rendered dark only partially. "...it (the flags I gave) will not help with the most modern websites, for example imdb. Why ? because the engine of this browser is outdated, yeah , sorry to say it. But if you use these same flags with, say chrome 102 - it will render them dark (fully)."

  28. I have deliberately chosen the definition of "period correct" hardware so strictly to make clear that no newer Windows-based operating system than Windows XP can be installed on these underperforming computers. My Windows XP computer is equipped with an old Pentium 4 single core CPU 2.8GHz and only 1.5GB of RAM, produced in 2000. Therefore, this computer fulfils my strict definition of "period correct" hardware. The motherboard is fully compatible with Windows XP. I started using anti-virus and firewall programs in the 90s. And I do not surf the internet or connecting to other servers without them. Some weeks ago, I switched completely from Avast to WiseVector StopX. On my old computer, it works perfectly. It is leightweight and uses only few system resources. But unfortunately, serious problems with all 360Chrome versions, and with 360Chrome v13.5 build 2022, too. I had to add all 360Chrome versions to both exclusion lists of WiseVector StopX. They can be found in the main program window under Exclusions and additionally in the Settings under Advanced Protection Settings. If I don't exclude them completely from scanning, then the starting of these browsers will cause BSODs. For me, a rather bad sign, unfortunately. No other browsers or programs generate BSODs in my system. Some of them have to be excluded from scanning to get them work. But if not, they can still be started without any BSODs. I conclude from my observations that all 360Chrome browsers do things in the background that are very unusual (to put it in a completely non-judgemental way), even crashing an AV program that ends in a BSOD.

  29. Avoiding Russisn, Asian or American VPN servers is a very good idea for a European, if possible, of course, and if privacy and anonymity is important. Due to many well-known reasons. It doesn't matter whether someone is located France or Germany. The connections are too slow, physically induced. Americans are feeding permanently NSA & Co, presumably and hopefully against their will. Privacy and anonymity do not really exist in the USA. Have fun with Ultrasurf, @msfntor! Data collectors are already looking forward to it. And give my regards to the NSA!

  30. All offered versions on Mozilla are for Firefox browsers 91.0.0 and later. And regarding old, abandoned versions for a VPN service, if they exist at all, don't work anymore in general.

  32. Here is a quotation of the Privacy Policy from their website ("privacy" ): Your connection will be logged. Therefore, this service has to be considered unsafe and should actually be avoided. As I wrote in my posts above, using free VPN services means very low speed, in many cases no stable connections, no privacy, no security, no anonymity, and definitely a lack of a "no log policy". So why should a user choose such a service? Just to get a foreign IP? That's simply nonsense and definitely not the idea of VPN. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  33. Hello @retrotrash69! Windows XP is my beloved, main OS. But truth be told, there are very few solutions meanwhile to establish VPN connections in Windows XP. And without any payments, all existing solutions are very limited and most of them crap, unfortunately. Which Mypal browser do you use? Mypal 29.3.0 or Mypal 68? There is a huge difference between these two. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  36. @UCyborg , please tell us if you know what was the last working version for Windows Vista and 8.1 respectively. Thank you.
    1 point
  37. Well I've tried (just now) to run on Vista without the extended kernel , like you suggested . It was easy , simply because I do not use that kernel. I'm getting : "Cannot load RTSSHooks.dll library" "Failed to initialize main window" This is with the same Net 4.5.1 and VC Redist 2015. Now it seems to be intentional to me too , and they definitely lie about the requirements.
    1 point
  38. Maybe , maybe not . I wouldn't be surprised if it's intentonal, though . But ! To be sure you need to test with the same Net 4.5.1 , VC Redist 2015 and drivers' versions. Also , try to remove Afterburner and see if it works without it . Today I've used drivers 388 , 391 , 416 and 430.x.x - again , all is fine . I shall test with Vista if I find some spare time.

  44. Thank you , it worked ! Though there are warning messages (huge) , right at the start "this flag is not supported" (they are lying , of course , it is definitely supported, otherwise it wouldn't work, they just want everyone on Win10) , and the second huge and long banner "...you're on Vista or XP..." they are EXTREMELY annoying and on white background , which is insane . Extensions won't load , even unpacked with this error "Default locale ... bla , bla , bla ... couldn't be loaded". and something about manifest. I was not going to use this "browser" with such ugly interface anyway , it's just for testing purposes , because others have asked.

  47. Hi , I think I found what' going on, several functions are missing from your file : RtlLookupFunctionEntry , RtlPcToFileHeader , RtlUnwindEx , RtlVirtualUnwind (these seems to be the most inportant) . I wasn't sleeping and I've tried to add files from W7 , no success , but the error chanded to "0xC00000FD" . After several unsuccessful launches , I placed back your files and just opened the .exe with Dependency walker to confirm , yep missing. Edit 1 : also the game wants these : RtlCompareMemory , TryAcquireSRWLockShared , LdrWx86FormatVirtualImage , NtWow64WriteVirtualMemory64 NtWow64QueryInformationProcess64 , NtWow64ReadVirtualMemory64 , RtlExtendedLargeIntegerDivide , RtlInitializeExceptionChain , RtlSetUserCallbackExceptionFilter _alldiv , _allmul, _alloca_probe , _allshl , _aulldiv , _aulldvrm , _aullrem , _chkstk Edit 2 : It seems to me the game is protected with steam libraries , and steam makes these calls to those in the "Edit 1" section.
