Adobe Reader

Featured Replies

The Adobe Reader takes up a lot of space on my xp cd. Which of these files are unnecessary for the silent install of Adobe Reader 6?

0x049.ini

abcpy.ini

adobe reader 6.msi

data1.cab

instmsia.exe

instmsiw.exe

rdr60enu.itw

rdr90enu.mst

setup.exe

setup.ini

Thanx in advance.

instmsia.exe

instmsiw.exe

These you can safely remove, but as far as i know you need the rest.

RemyBlade :)

You can also remove setup.exe. It will be installed via the (then renamed) AR6.msi anyway. You gotta rename it to AR6.msi because it's not found otherwise (had to learn the hard way...).

Does that mean i can also remove the setup.ini?

Does that mean i can also remove the setup.ini?

Affirmative.

I only have the following files and it works ok

0x049.ini

abcpy.ini

adobe reader 6.msi (renamed to AR6.msi)

data1.cab

setup.exe

It looks like I can also remove setup.exe aswell

This is how you make a Adobe MSI package

1. Run the .exe for Reader 6.0 you downloaded from Adobe

2. It will say "Recomposing data" and create a folder structure called:

C:\WINDOWS\Cache\Adobe Reader 6.0\ENUBIG*

3. That folder will be populated with the MSI and supporting files you need. No capture needed.

4. The command line to install it (if you're inclined to use the command line) is:

msiexec /i "Adobe Reader 6.0.msi" TRANSFORMS=Rdr60ENU.mst /q

*depents on language

u dont need setup.exe

do it as muiz said but rename Adobe Reader 6.0.msi to something handy like AR6.msi and just leave AR6.msi and data1.cab in your install directory.

anything else is not needed.

.ini not needed also?

i did not try that

Get RyanVM's switchless V7.

20.4mb

Acrobat reader 7 basic is also a lot smaller than 6.

If you want to save space on your CD and also keep the original Adobe Reader 6, here is my solution.

Just use the original .exe you downloaded. No need to extract.

Run with this command in RunOnceEx.cmd

REG ADD %KEY%\001 /VE /D "Adobe Reader 6.0.1" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\001 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\AdobeReader\AdobeReader6.exe -p\"-s /v\"/qn\"\"" /f

Anyone have a link to RyanVM's Acrobat Reader 7 installer? I think his website is still down.
