I have looked in my ME cabs and there is indeed a msvcp50.dll 5.0.0.7022 md5: f2c94d09f87ad02a0636230567f6d143

So, after reading your list, Petr, I conclude that of the five I have collected from installing software, none come from an MS OS. Neither the single 5.0.0.7022, nor the four 5.0.0.7051.

Where they do come from originally is what I am wondering.

PS : All the four 5.0.0.7051 have a size of 565,760 bytes and a creation date of 08 February 2000, 23:16:42 and differences between them seems quite minor when comparing them at the binary level. A maximum of 315 differences.

Does anyone know if the files listed for ME (Msdxm.ocx & Wmpcore.dll) works under Win98se correctly?

Download MP832353.EXE instead for 98SE as it replaces 828026.

I am on Win Me and I have removed MP7.1 to only have 6.4 so I can't say about wmpcore.dll.

As for msdxm.ocx, it is version 6.4.7.1129 you want to have and not 6.4.7.1128.

The package you should use is WindowsMedia-KB832353-x86-ENU.exe and not WindowsMedia-KB828026-x86-ENU.exe

By looking into it I see that wmpcore.dll is version 7.10.0.3076.

Those files should work with 98SE.

You should also update MPG4DS32.AX to at least version 7.10.0.3069 (from WM324178.exe)

and dxmasf.dll to 6.4.7.1121 (from WM320920_64.exe or WM308567.exe)

and strmdll.dll to 4.1.0.3925 (from WMSU47357.exe)

That's only for 6.4 and might not be totally accurate as I might I have missed an update or another. For 7.1 they will yet be some other files to update I believe.

AVOID or REMOVE the KB828026 WMP update off your computer, FixitMad. The KB832353 WMP updates fix the URL script problems with the KB828026 patches.

dang, Microsoft should have posted the KB832353 updates instead of the buggy KB828026 updates at Windows Update.

These two updated files are included in IE6 SP1's version of Windows Media Player 6.4, eidenk (it's version 6.4.07.1121)

Download the WMP 6.4 CAB file here:

and see for yourself. Those two files are on there. Beats having to install those two patches by just installing this updated release of WMP 6.4.

There are also files more up to date in it such as mplayer2.exe and of course I have the IE6SP1 setup archive even though I only use IE55SP2. Didn't notice those two fixes were also in it as well.

Thanks everyone for that update. I was not aware of the issue with KB828026. Thanks: the guy, eidenk and erpdude8!

I'll download and archive that Patch and 6.4 CAB file right now. On a side note, is the IE5.5SP2 still available for download anywhere? Of course M$ removed that option to download the files.

All three of these files are for WMP 6.1 only?

I searched for MPG4DS32.AX and it appears there is a version 8.0.0.4487. This is for the Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec. Is there a complete update package for 7.1 player? When I searched for the MPG4DS32.AX file, it was not on a M$ page so I'm not sure where this v 8.0.0.4487 is coming from.

I'm wondering what the best Codecs are for WMP 7.1 or 6.4 to play MPEG-4,AVI,DivX, etc. I have several Codecs already but it now seems that even DivX is not making any further updates for Win98 users.

I searched for MPG4DS32.AX and it appears there is a version 8.0.0.4487. This is for the Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec. Is there a complete update package for 7.1 player? When I searched for the MPG4DS32.AX file, it was not on a M$ page so I'm not sure where this v 8.0.0.4487 is coming from.

I have that version you say installed on my machine but I am unable to trace its origin so far. It's probably from XP's Media Player 8 and must have been installed by a third party multimedia utility of one sort or another.

I'm wondering what the best Codecs are for WMP 7.1 or 6.4 to play MPEG-4,AVI,DivX, etc. I have several Codecs already but it now seems that even DivX is not making any further updates for Win98 users.

I am using ffdhow.

I have a friend who installed SP2 on his 98SE machine.

During the SP2 install, he got a warning about two DLLs that were newer on his system than the ones in the service pack...

hhctrlui.dll

iscript.dll

I told him to keep the newer files.

Was that the right thing to do?

Are these DLLs needed for the next version of SP2?

If so, I can try to get them from him. Let me know.

You probably meant these DLLs:

HHSETUP.DLL

ITIRCL.DLL

ITSS.DLL

Multiple instances of HHCTRLUI.DLL are installed in the %windir%\system\MUI folder, under specific subfolders for each available language.

The only newer HHCTRLUI.DLL I know of comes from Win2003 SP1:

and may or may not work with 9x Oses, because it may contain Unicode. Unicode is not understood by 9x OSes, unless a particular app uses UNICOWS.DLL specific code:

I'm not familiar with iscript.dll .

Those newer DLLs your friend has, are probably from this update:

which [except for HHCTRLUI.DLL from 2003 SP1] installs all newest files needed for 9x OSes.
