According to Infoworld, Microsoft showed off the work it has done since Beta 1 of Internet Explorer 7 this week.

At the Hack in the Box Security Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Microsoft showed the latest build of IE7 Beta 2 to attendees to try and gain feedback. "People had a lot of good suggestions, and asked a lot of good questions," said Tony Chor, group program manager at Microsoft's Internet Explorer team.

The Beta 2 version of IE7, currently under internal dogfood testing at Microsoft, will likely be ready by the end of the year, said Chor.

One new feature on the Web browser is it runs in higher security "Protected Mode" by default, set at a lower user privilege. Similar to UAP in Longhorn. In protected mode, all downloads and other packages are automatically dropped in the "temporary Internet files" folder, so malware can't be deposited on the hard disk. Windows treat the files as dangerous and they're given no privileges to move about.

Microsoft will license its "Protected Mode" innovation to other developers for free to help spread its use, and increase security, said Chor.

For businesses, Microsoft added a "Compatibility Mode" that works when a person is using the company's intranet and allows them to drop files wherever they want to on their PCs.

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 is NOT warez, rooter skunk ..

It's a free product from a public listed company on the New York Stock Exchange. You Conepatus leuconotus wood pussy, get you're facts straight ..

Microsoft is testing the product first with criminals to see how they hack it. You farandole fartlek, your just kissing in the wind ..

If you don't understand the posts, then don't reply!

I want a legitimate copy of Windows IE B2 as I have IE B1. I'm not concerned about people breaking into my computer as I have limited bits & bytes to steal, and several traps are waiting for them.

At the moment I am Browser poor with IE B1 and FF 1.5 B1. I take the risks of bugs in the betas.

But get this into your head - you cannot get a warez version of FREE software - get it, IE is free!

Now be a good felucca and felwort off!

Untrue. If it is not a public beta, it is illegal. Saying you want it along with the following:

I'm just a good guy .. going bad .. if that's what it takes.

Better start cracking some MS software.

That is a rule violation.

Discussion of circumventing activation/timebombs/keygens or any other illegal activity will also not be tolerated.

Hope that clears things up.

On a server company we had to get after them for hosting IE7 Beta 1, because it is not meant for the public. Why? It's a private beta and that is illegal.

/me agrees with Tarun.

IE Beta is a closed beta, that is not for public. If Microsoft wanted to to have it PressAny, then you would have it already. Get over it, wait for it to be released and very soon your computer can be as insecure and bug ridden as you want :D

And btw, many of the innovations in software, not to mention discovery and fixing of exploits in software (including your favourite browser) would not have happened without these 'criminal' crackers (prefer the term 'reverse engineer' myself though). Personally, I think Microsoft have shown initiative in allowing the group of people most likely to 'destruct test' their software properly an early view. Means it will probably be a better final product.

Amused that you label crackers as crooks and not hackers though? Hacker damage tends to be more immediately expensive and destructive than cracking software ....

Hell, I still wont use it though ;)

Oh my god, you people dont get it.

People are allowed to like IE, firefox sucks in my opinion I will never use it (although i did use it to test it so people cant say dont bag it before you try it, i did i hate it.)

Opera is a great browser for people who don't like IE But as you can see the first post is about IE7 Beta. I think it would be fair to let people like what ever they want!

Seriously get over it, your just making firefox look bad by being so stubborn, scaring other people intro thinking they might turn out like that, thats what the mactards to. you don't wanna be anything like them do you?

@xper, do you think it is fair that press any key got flamed (in a way) in post 2 but when he is standing up for himself its not ok? and post number 4? Really all Press Any Key is talking about is wanting IE7 Beta if he cant talk about it whats the point of the forums!

No, you dont get it.

If he had come out with a simple statement "hey, I cant wait to get IE Beta 2", no-one would have a problem. However, coming out in that first post like a 2-year-old with tourettes, and the same in further posts is the main problem here. And no, the only flaming here was from PaK.

Yeah, people can use whatever browser they want, and people can also recommend whichever browser they want. Personally I dont like opera (even less than I like IE), but I dont care if others prefer it.

And only one person mentioned firefox, hardly a crusade to take over your world.

What are you talking about? IE7b1 or any beta is not FREE PERIOD. Microsoft, as any company in fact, reserves any and such rights to hold back any release to the public and to it's beta developers. It's a CLOSED BETA publication!

If you want to be involved with Microsoft beta services I would suggest you either subscribe to a TechNet or MSDN service.

Personally, I think Microsoft have shown initiative in allowing the group of people most likely to 'destruct test' their software properly an early view. Means it will probably be a better final product.

I could not agree with you any more. Microsoft is the only company that has shown inovation and the curiousity of what the future will be like. UNIX has always stayed it's path. NIX is great, but for a home office / home user environment it's no where close to where Microsoft has placed their software. If it were not for Microsoft's inovation, technology would be nothing as it is today.
