@Kurt

no it's only for DVD ripping, i.e from DVD to AVI (Xvid)

it's the best ripper ever

check www.doom9.org for ALOT of informations about DVD RIPPING

I'm a memeber too in their forum! :P

daemon tools, period

as far as iso programs go, I use ultraiso, and nero for burning

sometimes one program that does everything can cause problems, as did alcohol for me...great idea, too many bsod :/

@Mywindows

thanx for the informations, and yeah as I said it doesn't make images yet!

anyway, my prob is that I got over 50 CDs in a *.000 extension of VirtualCD so I'm stuck with it! and they are compressed to maybe 2/3 of thier original sizes , and I can mount and work with them smoothly

while the Ordinray ISOs are huge for sure

what about the file type of Alcohol? can alcohol compress CD data into a smaller image size like H+H Software Virtual CD?

2/3 of initial size huh?

That must we have a look at :)

ONE more for Alcohol 120%, I never like Deamon Tools... Just never worked out 4 me...

I much prefer Alcohol and am even a part of their forum support team. They use the same VD drivers as DT and even share a developer or two between them, so there's not really much of a difference between them in that regard. As for your requirements above:

My ideal Emulator is:

1- Can deal with virtually every Image Type!

Alcohol can work with almost every datatype except for B5T and there's a way to make that work in the VD.

2- Compression

Alcohol does not do compression. It has been suggested, but there are no plans for it at this time that I'm aware of.

3- Smooth,Reliable,No Hangs,Compatible

Well, I've never had any problems with it. Some people have, but that's why we're there on the forums in case they do have problems. 99% of the time it's due to problems with Windows, though.

4- Can put info and comments on each CD like for instance e.g Serial Number

No, and the reason being that Alcohol's main purpose is to image CD/DVD games so you can play them as if they were the original. Modifying the disc to add files and such to them defeats the purpose because the disc could no longer be authenticated.

5- Doesn't take Half of C: drive space!

Well, depends on how many discs you image and how big your C: drive is. :) .

I didn't mean the Images, but I meant after installing the software, it doesn't take much MBs at thr program files :P

You're real fun man! especially you avatar!:P

In that case, alcohol again is cool, its pretty small. (consider that it can even replace your CD-writing software, besides making and mounting images)

what exactly is a cd emulator? what are its benefits and when is it useful?? How do we use one?
