  1. This is considered pre-release software (in essemce, a beta) Please consider adding these and similar hotfixes to the beta section or thier own category.
  2. here you go http://msdn.microsoft.com/howtobuy/subscribers/default.aspx msdn professional, enterprise and universal only though have fun!
  3. are you sure it really hangs? can you move your cursor or turn on/off num lock, etc also go to device manager, look under Computer and see what that says, that shows us which HAL you are using and can often be the culprit of isssues like this also try running sfc /scannow too, seems to fix alot of problems
  4. norton stinks get avg free if you dont want to pay for virus protection

    taskman.exe

taskman.exe by default is in both windows and system32 directories for SP2: CRC is 0x5E9721D0 MD5 is F4DFD83153E8C9088AE2DB704107060D and yes, it does absolultely nothing, justs wastes 32KB of HD space
  6. I am taking it that CnQ is something that prevents your CPU from throttling? perhaps it isn't fully compatible with vista? wouldnt be surprised...
  7. daemon tools, period as far as iso programs go, I use ultraiso, and nero for burning sometimes one program that does everything can cause problems, as did alcohol for me...great idea, too many bsod :/

    Windows XP...

windows xp will be around for a long time for one reason it WORKS all of the previous MS OS's (exception of 98SE) stink hard 98SE, however old it is, if used sparingly by an undemanding user and with adequate protection, will run forever. email and internet and solitaire? 98se is for you! after loading vista b1 myself, and all the problems I ran into..(im sure theyll get fixed)..its just not THAT much better than xp, and runs alot slower than xp on my athlonxp 3200 with 2gig ram should be called win nt 5.3, not 6 sure there are alot of cool features, but there are many totally free 3rd party programs that do a better job at whatever (except ms antispyware which rocks) its up to each user, but honestly microsoft needs to lower prices on it's OS's or really need to make pro version FOR professionals versus now just being a 'complete' windows (as home is slimmed down abit)

  11. run sfc /scannow you might have some corrupt files what network protocols are installed? is there anything special about your xp install? (did you nlite or anything) ?
  12. boot to the windows 98 cd get to the command prompt type fdisk delete the proper partition create a new one for windows 98 and format it
  13. what other protocols are installed? have you tried disabling lmhosts lookup?
  14. will RunOnceEx work on a non unattended install disc? (win xp sp2) thanks.
  15. hmm, hot ****, I think that's a great idea. thanks!
  16. heh, well, thats how I currently do it, (except for dist over network, cause I actually work) but I have to deal with many computers that are quite slow (bogged down with apps) and have a tight schedule Is there a way change what autopatcher installs on a machine or a way to make ones own service pack for xp?
  17. nLite totally rips this stuff from even being put in the built registry, so reinstall I think is necessary you might want to try the 'repair' install option though, worth a shot and alot faster than reinstalling
  18. I can see the future... sorry to bust your bubble, but fat chance
  19. no, I'm sorry, I am looking to improve my service pack disc, not integration I need to be able to install SP2 on XP machines in the field (not reinstalling), and hopefully hotfixes and some other features too.
  20. hey guys, i am a road tech and often need to install sp2 onto client's machines right now i run it off of a cd-r: i have extracted all of the files from the network install (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) it's about 327MB after that I also have a cmd script with this @\i386\update\update.exe /passive /n so, it has no prompts and no backup (if something goes wrong, it probably is needed to be reformated anyways) I am looking for a way to streamline this process by alot more (hotfixes mostly) I have seen autopatcher xp, but it contains several things (even in the lite version) that I dont feel comfortable putting on a customers machine i was also thinking of decompresing all of the dl_ and ex_ and etc, but when i run expand, it keeps behind the original any ideas?
  21. i use nlite now, however i am awaiting the next version, few bug fixes hopefully i use it to integrate hotfixes only though, no apps, so i dont really know how well it does, or if it all, for stuff like media player, etc
  22. cool, thanks for the clarification. looking forward to sp2 then as well.
  23. thanks for the link anyone know if there are any plans for XPCreate to add support for hotfixes like these? the reason I ask about 8.3 filenames, is a few files afterwards come up with the tilde ( ~ ) i renamed all of my packages manually, but a few remain (not the few .wav & .wmv files) they end up Q8124E~1.CAT and Q8A119~1.CAT maybe they are just getting unpacked improperly
