HOTFIXES: Windows XP SP2 & Windows 2000 SP4

Featured Replies

Is there any necessity to install KB894391 (fix MS05-012 error) after relise of KB902400 (MS05-051,

replace MS05-012) ?

@NeoDeath:

MRT 1.9 Version 08FFB7EB-5453-4563-A016-7DBC4FED4935

Just went thru the list from the first post and these hotfixes should be removed

KB896727

KB899588

KB885626

None of the above are required as other hotfixes have replaced them

KB885626

"Your computer stops responding when you restart to complete the installation of Windows XP

Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005"

This update is seems to be unnecessary for system installed from WinXP with SP2 CD

because this update must be install before installing SP2 (from here

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB885626 method 2)

I added the KB885626 patche because it will appear as a critical update for people having a Prescott D-0 Core CPU (even if you already have SP2)

As I always said: "If it show up on Windows Update, I'll keep them on the list".

Tomorrow is Patch Day and we'll see if they still show up...

Incroyable HULK

In KB article no special information for Prescott C-0 stepping (not D-0).

Here only information that on computer using this processors can hang up and

for this computers update has been released. The fact, that update shows

in windows update on winxpsp2 system is strange. There is no possible

reason for this. And there is no information about legal post sp2 hotfix

installation.

According to article content the problem for the sake of hotfix created

is the computer stops responding and no other. It's not look like people

that have hanging up computer can access the windows update service.

Where is the logic?

There is no information about why can i install this update,

for which purpose?

Windows update service is more comfortable method of getting windows update,

but there is no warranty from errors.

The reason for people to install updates is not to see, that windows update

service show, that the all currently updates has been setup. I do that for

provide security to my system, not to see some messages from microsoft.

Can you mark on the first page such problem updates, than the people know

about the troubles.

And what's about KB894391?

And why KB884020 not removed from list, it's replaced by KB893066.

Hello all, here are the result of a clean simulation with Windows Update for XP SP2:

*** NEW ***

KB896424

KB890830

I Removed KB873339, KB886185, KB896727 and KB899588 from the list since they no longer show up on Windows Update...

Why there is no new update in win 2k section on the first page?

Aren't there any new update for win 2k since July 12?

Aren't there any new update for win 2k since July 12?

Sorry about that, there was some issues with the Update Rollout 1 but now they are resolved so I will update the first page soon...

When certain updates are removed from the list does that mean they are not needed?

For example, KB873339 was removed with the addition of KB896424.

However, KB873339 is still listed in my Add/Remove Programs list even after I installed KB896424.

If I were to start a new clean install of XP should I leave out KB873339 and other updates that have since been removed, or does it make a difference?

You linked the same file twice

Here is the proper link for KB890830

Yes

If another hotfix replaced an existing one, you no longer need that hotfix. The reason why it still appears on your add / remove list is because the installer added it to the registry so you can remove it, when the new hotfix was installed, it did not update the registry to reflect that it has since replaced that file.

So to answer your question, you do not need to install outdated hotfixes. Doing so would just make it redundant.
