  1. Anyone know why the links to these two updates do not seem to exist? KB914388 - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=66151 KB917159 - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=64331 Also, when searching microsoft.com for these updates I cannot find any results, let alone a specific article or download page. What's the deal? EDIT Although those links provided in the Automatic Updates descriptions of these patches are dead/nonexistant, I was eventually able to find direct links to the download pages for them: KB914388 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en KB917159 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
  2. It contains nearly 200 copies of the hotfix -- 1 for every language x 3 for each OS flavor. The bulletin says one type of user who would use the ISO is someone in charge of a multinational network. I would think each region should have at least one administrator in charge of critical updates, but I guess there are some responsible for multiple regions.
  3. EXCELLENT compilation I just thought I'd point out this little typo: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] "RegisteredOwner"="Your name" "RegisteredOrganization"="Your Organization The end quote is missing for the organization name.
  4. Still no one has verified if my list is complete. I updated it to include KB885626 now. It's back on page 111...anyone? I was not aware of this feature. That makes me wonder, why was I getting errors when trying to integrate certain hotfixes out of order? Oh well, I guess it doesn't really matter since I don't integrate with this method. I like the chronological order anyway (probably an OCD thing), but it's good to know it doesn't have to be that way. Thanks, sonic Not true, This one is showing up on Windows Update if you have a Prescott core Pentium 4 processor. This is why I am keeping it in the list "I see," said the blind man. It's not showing up for me because I don't have a Prescott...duh! I guess it won't hurt to include it anyway for any non-Prescott systems I build. Still, I'm curious how the issue described by the KB could be fixed if the system cannot load XP after SP2 is installed on a Prescott machine. Would you boot in safe mode to install the hotfix? Or would you have to install the hotfix before attempting to install SP2?Thanks, HULK
  5. Can anyone tell me if this list of critical updates for XP Pro SP2 is complete? I want a quick'n'dirty list of all critical updates prior to SP2 in the order MS released them. Rather than integrate these hotfixes into my unattended install I simply renamed the files to include the release date (e.g. 2005-12-05_KB905915.exe) and then execute them -- in chronological order -- with a .cmd file. A few hotfixes were giving me errors the first few times I tried to integrate them; I think the problem was that I tried to install them out of order. (The list in this thread's original post is not in chronological order, and some of the release dates simply do not match the published dates according to MS.) EDIT: sonic informed me that chronological order is not actually important/necessary, but I think it's still nice to have a short list like this as a quick reference. NOTE: I did not include the GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374) because it is not required for Windows but is actually for software like Office, Picture It!, Visual Studio .NET, etc. 2004-09-14 - KB885626 ... download page or direct download 2004-11-22 - KB887742 ... download page (requires validation) 2004-12-13 - KB873339 ... download page or direct download 2004-12-13 - KB885835 ... download page or direct download 2004-12-13 - KB885836 ... download page or direct download 2004-12-13 - KB886185 ... download page or direct download 2005-02-07 - KB885250 ... download page or direct download 2005-02-07 - KB887472 ... download page or direct download 2005-02-07 - KB888113 ... download page or direct download 2005-02-07 - KB888302 ... download page or direct download 2005-02-07 - KB891781 ... download page or direct download 2005-04-11 - KB890859 ... download page or direct download 2005-05-18 - KB894391 ... download page or direct download 2005-06-13 - KB890046 ... download page or direct download 2005-06-13 - KB893066 ... download page or direct download 2005-06-13 - KB896358 ... download page or direct download 2005-06-13 - KB896422 ... download page or direct download 2005-06-13 - KB896428 ... download page or direct download 2005-06-27 - KB898461 ... download page (requires validation) 2005-07-11 - KB901214 ... download page or direct download 2005-08-08 - KB893756 ... download page or direct download 2005-08-08 - KB896423 ... download page or direct download 2005-08-08 - KB899587 ... download page or direct download 2005-08-08 - KB899591 ... download page or direct download 2005-09-02 - KB893803 ... download page (requires validation) 2005-10-10 - KB899589 ... download page or direct download 2005-10-10 - KB900725 ... download page or direct download 2005-10-10 - KB901017 ... download page or direct download 2005-10-10 - KB902400 ... download page or direct download 2005-10-10 - KB905414 ... download page or direct download 2005-10-10 - KB905749 ... download page or direct download 2005-11-07 - KB896424 ... download page or direct download 2005-12-05 - KB905915 ... download page or direct download 2005-12-12 - KB910437 ... download page or direct download 2005-12-13 - KB904706 ... download page or direct download And of course the Malicious Software Removal Tool: KB890830-v1.11 ... download page or direct download I prefer to run the Malware Tool after all the hotfixes and not in silent mode -- just personal preference. 6. Actually, the updates/hotfixes cannot be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list. Another thing I have wondered about is whether or not the updates must be installed in chronological order. The list in the first post of this thread is in numerical order (mostly). If it is necessary, would this list of critical updates be complete and accurate for an XP SP2 installation? 2004-09-14 - KB885626 2004-12-13 - KB885835 2004-12-13 - KB885836 2005-02-07 - KB885250 2005-02-07 - KB888113 2005-02-07 - KB888302 2005-02-07 - KB891781 2005-02-22 - KB887742 2005-04-11 - KB890859 2005-06-13 - KB890046 2005-06-13 - KB893066 2005-06-13 - KB896358 2005-06-13 - KB896422 2005-06-13 - KB896428 2005-06-27 - KB898461 2005-07-11 - KB901214 2005-08-08 - KB893756 2005-08-08 - KB894391 2005-08-08 - KB896423 2005-08-08 - KB899587 2005-08-08 - KB899591 2005-08-10 - KB899589 2005-08-10 - KB900725 2005-08-10 - KB901017 2005-08-10 - KB902400 2005-08-10 - KB905414 2005-08-10 - KB905749 2005-08-11 - KB904706 2005-09-02 - KB893803 2005-10-05 - KB896688 2005-11-07 - KB896424 2005-11-08 - KB890830-v1.10
  7. Thanks, Gee. So I guess this is Microsoft's way of reducing the number of updates they release in order to make it look like they didn't have quite so many holes to fill. LOL
  8. When certain updates are removed from the list does that mean they are not needed? For example, KB873339 was removed with the addition of KB896424. However, KB873339 is still listed in my Add/Remove Programs list even after I installed KB896424. If I were to start a new clean install of XP should I leave out KB873339 and other updates that have since been removed, or does it make a difference?
