Asp Posted June 6 Posted June 6 (edited) I am getting blocked by websites that use Cloudflare hosting, I get stuck forever on pages like: https://annas-archive.se/slow_download/cfaaf2af56fd5956bd3f875b7f235726/0/0 "Verifying you are human. This may take a few seconds. annas-archive.se needs to review the security of your connection before proceeding." No problem on newer OSes. On XP I am using what I think is the latest version of "New Moon" NM28XP build: Win32 https://o.rthost.win/palemoon/palemoon-28.10.7a1.win32-git-20250531-d849524bd-uxp-4cb39ffa48-xpmod.7z The version number, 28.10.7a1 does not appear to have changed for quite a while. Is there any way to get past Cloudflare, or any other browser that works on WinXP 32 that can? Possibly related, I am now not able to log in to my account on https://imgur.com/ Edited June 6 by Asp
j7n Posted June 6 Posted June 6 (edited) Recent versions on New Moon can pass the check. But it takes a long time on a slower CPU and sometimes you need to refresh the page. That's just how it is now. The challenge is giving the client some processor workout. There is also Supermium that is much faster. Edited June 6 by j7n
Asp Posted June 6 Author Posted June 6 (edited) How long is a long time? I have 4 cores i5 3570, 3.6GHz, and it's been 20 minutes with no change, refreshed 3 times. Process Explorer shows the whole PC using 5%. So I don't think it is even trying. Since you said NM works, I restarted in safe mode, and this time it could pass in a few seconds.. So need to work out what add-on, adblocker, etc, is the issue. Never heard of Supermium. From a quick look it's a variant of Chrome? Will give it a try. Edited June 6 by Asp

Mathwiz Posted June 11 Posted June 11 I think you mean Serpent 55. Basilisk is for Win 7+ and is based on UXP (like Pale/New Moon and Serpent 52). Serpent 55 is generally on par with the above UXP browsers, but derived from Moebius, in turn from an ever-so-slightly newer version of Firefox. Maybe just new enough to deal with Cloudflare?

On "new moon"/basilisk(serpent) 52 - hcaptcha not working, on basilisk(serpent) 55 - all ok.
Mathwiz Posted Sunday at 12:38 AM Posted Sunday at 12:38 AM Good to hear. I use 55 myself, but I also keep a copy of 52 handy. The different names arose back in the early days. Originally Serpent was just a generic name used by "unbranded" builds of Basilisk; i.e., if you or I built the browser on our own PC, it would be called "Serpent" too. Basilisk was the "branded" name used for the official version distributed by MoonChild Productions. For several years the folks at MoonChild Productions expressed great irritation that some users sought support for @roytam1's Serpent builds at Basilisk's Web site (then run by MCP), so we were all taught to be careful never to refer to Roytam's builds as "Basilisk" and risk driving more Serpent users there. 1
dmiranda Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) This is not a problem (only) with legacy browsers. It is also related to the use of tweaks that reduce the ID'ing of one's browsing behavior, even in the newest versions of FF and derivatives. I haven't used legacy browsers (other than icecat, if you can call that legacy) for over six months. And yet, I get annoying cloudfare BS all the time. I blame those who use cloudfare, or similar s*** to "secure" their sites. Do your homework. Make safe your castle on your own. Do not rent knights for hire to do so. Edited 9 hours ago by dmiranda
