e-t-c Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 (edited) Hi folks ... FAQ: Is there any small, smart (portable) Firewall around for XP in these days ? Please let me know, thanks! BTW: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11196 Edited May 26, 2022 by e-t-c 1
AstroSkipper Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 (edited) Hi @e-t-c, I tried al lot of firewalls in the past. The best I found is Windows 10 Firewall Control XP 7.5 from sphinx-soft.com. I use this special version for Windows XP for years and it's simply great. There is a Free and a paid Plus version. My preferred version is the Plus one. Try it! I love it! Here is a link of archived versions: https://www.sphinx-soft.com/download/W10FC7.5/ Cheers, AstroSkipper Edited May 31, 2022 by AstroSkipper 1
Damnation Posted May 26, 2022 Posted May 26, 2022 I use the last free version of Comodo Internet Security that supported XP, it seems Comodo scrubbed the download links, if I can find the installer I'll post it here.

Maybe it's only me, but it's what I get. 1

Or go to homepage, download section and then Windows 10 Firewall Control XP 7.5 at the bottom of this site! Cheers, AstroSkipper

MikeyV Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 Do any of these have the feature that sygate had to notify when new dlls are being used?
i430VX Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) I just use the firewall built into windows. But in truth, most systems that don't leave one's home (hopefully trusted) network, do not need host firewalls as any old SOHO/consumer Firewall+NAT router basically eliminates those threat avenues. Nerdulater Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 I have never heard of Windows 10 Firewall Control XP 7.5. My paranoid self took one look at the name and was suspicious, but no, there's only 1 detection from Dr.Web I will try it someday.

The portable version is not compatible with Windows XP. Only the versions ending in their name on XP are written for Windows XP. This is the free version for Windows XP: https://www.sphinx-soft.com/download/W10FC7.5/Windows10FirewallControlFree-XP-Setup.exe And this is the Plus (paid) version for Windows XP: https://www.sphinx-soft.com/download/W10FC7.5/Windows10FirewallControlPlus-XP-Setup.exe The Plus version is the one I use for years. It's definitely worth the money. I wouldn't use a portable version in case of a firewall. There are components which have to be installed in Windows sytem folder, otherwise the services couldn't start at Windows startup. The goal of a firewall must be in managing and controlling all connections, especially at system startup. A firewall should be deeply integrated into the system. Therefore a portable version isn't a good idea. Cheers, AstroSkipper Edited May 27, 2022 by AstroSkipper
AstroSkipper Posted May 27, 2022 Posted May 27, 2022 And here is a link from December of 2015 where you can compare the Free and the Plus version: https://web.archive.org/web/20151229143305/https://www.sphinx-soft.com/Vista/order.html Have a nice day, AstroSkipper 1
