Dave-H Posted February 7 Posted February 7 That post did indeed refer to Windows 2000, but this isn't the thread for any prolonged discussion about Windows 2000 issues. If you post in the relevant Windows 2000 thread, you can always tag people in this thread to bring it to their attention.
Dietmar Posted February 8 Posted February 8 (edited) Hi, I put the 14900k into the Asrock z690 Extreme 1700 socket board. Before first start, I update this board to the very last version of its Bios 20.01, which contains all the changes from Intel, for example in Microcode for the 14900k. This board Asrock z690 Extreme is the most stable board from all boards, that I ever tested in last 24 years. Now I run prime95 on it. It throttles also, but only from 5700 MHZ ==> 4900 MHZ maximal. Via this, the temperature with Dark Rock Pro 5 reaches 97 degrees on the E-cores, 92 degrees on the P-cores. prime95 runs now for 20min, no(!) crash. So, it looks that Intel did their most possible repair for this 14900k cpu. On the Asrock z690 Extreme board the 14900k seems to be stable and shows only little throttle under XP SP3 Dietmar Edited February 8 by Dietmar 1

Quote now it is nearly equal to the 12900KS. BUT the 12900KS does not show heavy throttel. No kidding: i wouldn't see any reason to upgrade from Alder to Raptor Lake at all (a fortiori not for an XP user)! Edited February 8 by Mark-XP
SEDANEH Posted February 8 Posted February 8 https://rog.asus.com/laptops/rog-strix/rog-strix-scar-18-2024/ Hello everyone Does anyone have any ideas on how to bypass this example to install Windows XP? It doesn't allow booting to anything other than Windows 11 at all during the installation process. Does that mean we should give up in this case?
Dietmar Posted February 8 Posted February 8 @SEDANEH I just take a look at the Bios from this Notebook. I think, that the whole legacy CSM setting is missing in that Bios. So, until now no chance for to install XP SP3, because it needs CSM (legacy boot, secure boot disabled). You have a chance with XP SP2 bit64 (see @reboot12) Dietmar 1

Anyway, it seems that instead of me controlling this model, it is controlling me. I tried to install Windows 7. I was able to boot once, but during the installation phase, the keyboard and mouse were locked. Life goes on. Edited February 8 by SEDANEH
Dietmar Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Hi, during install of my german xp.iso and update it via Legacy Update, I get some strange crashes on the Asrock z690 Extreme board with 14900k cpu. This NEVER happens with the 12900k cpu on the same board Dietmar
Dietmar Posted February 10 Posted February 10 (edited) @Damnation Because I just have some time and money, I bought just now for the fun test with XP SP3 Prozessor Intel Core Ultra 5 245K (I compare a lot and this is the only one I like in Arrow Lake 3nm) Motherboard GIGABYTE B860 DS3H (with PS/2 and Serial COM port for ultimative tests) Memory Corsair Vengeance RGB grau DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR5-6000, CL30-36-36-76 (I do not think, that any other memory is faster all together) CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 5 (I have already. This is the best AIR cooler ever, now with more space between the cooler and ram). Soon fun starts Dietmar EDIT: Does anybody know, if there is a motherboard for the Arrow Lake cpu, that supports CSM, legacy boot? Edited February 10 by Dietmar

The ASUS PRIME B860M-A CSM ? Edit: No, probably not, as CSM in this case means "Corporate Stable Model - a commercial program designed to provide stable and reliable motherboards." (see here). Dietmar Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Hi, no legacy CSM mode on any Bios version until now for the GIGABYTE B860 DS3H. I also check a lot of other boards for the Arrow Lake cpu. No CSM everywhere. This will be a really hard job, to implement an working CSMcore.dxe into this Bios. I will make a try in my next holidays beginning at 5 of April It comes with Bios version 3, now I have 6c. Dietmar
Damnation Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) @Dietmar From what I've found on Gigabytes website. https://www.gigabyte.com/WebPage/917/amd600-bios.html On the Favorites (F11) page. AMD at least still has CSM. (It might only apply to 600 series and not 800 series chipsets though) edit: https://www.gigabyte.com/WebPage/1081/amd800-bios.html All good, CSM support still there on the Main Menu page. Dietmar Posted February 13 Posted February 13 (edited) @Damnation Yepp, I just check: For example, the B850 EAGLE WIFI6E board for AMD has CSMcore in its BIos Dietmar Edited February 13 by Dietmar
Tecchie Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) Any chance of getting a stock ISO compiled with an updated ACPI.SYS to allow installation on a Z170 Chipset? Specifications are as follows: Intel I7-6700K will update later to a 9900T or Xeon equivalant Intel Z170 Chipset nVidia GeForce GTX 970m 6GB 64GB DDR4 installed Cannmot seem to get an ACPI working in an XP x64-SP2 disc image. I replace the files in the image but still get the ACPI error. Drivers aren't really an issue as I've managed to sort out storage drivers and such. Any input greatly appreciated Thanks guys! Edited February 14 by Tecchie
Damnation Posted February 14 Posted February 14 @Tecchie Make sure to use the x64 acpi.sys, the x86 acpi.sys won't work on XP x64.
