It's taskbar crashing but no SAB in sight. Ensure you don't run other taskbar enhancements / auto-hide

Posted

I've just installed SAB on a fairly clean install of Windows 11 (recovering from a catastrophic disk failure) and am experiencing an odd issue; with the enhanced classic start menu enabled, I'm unable to unpin items from the start menu. Both the option to unpin from start menu and 'Remove from this list' are available when I right-click on items; if I click either one, nothing happens. If I uninstall the associated program, the pinned item remains on the start menu; the icon just goes blank, and fixes itself if I reinstall the program. If I go to the folder it tells me the shortcut is in, I can delete the shortcut from that folder and it remains pinned. I've been mostly trying this with one particular program that I can easily install and uninstall but I've tried unpinning other pinned items and they similarly won't budge. I can add new pins but they cannot be removed.

I have attempted uninstalling SAB, including removing all settings and my registration. When I reinstall and re-enable enhanced classic start, the pinned items are still there. They are not present on the default start menu. This appears to be independent of the 'store and display recently owned programs/items' settings. I'm absolutely tearing my hair out over this.

The classic taskbar is removed in Dev... it's only a matter of time until that trickles into release preview and then retail. My advice is stay on 23H2 or use T2.

Quick question.  Will I have to disable auto updates via the registry?  Or will it be one of those ones that sits in the updates waiting for me to allow it?

Also, for Tihiy, will you be trying to put the classic menus that microsoft removes into your mod?  Or are we going to have to stay on 23H2 forever?

@Tihiy First off thanks for the awesome program as I been using this for over a year now. I'm posting because recently I purchased an OLED and I decided to start using auto hide taskbar. There appears to be a thicker margin and this can be an issue over time with static lines. I am unsure if there are any fixes to the issue previously mentioned or not.

Issue: The taskbar when autohide seems to have a small margin that always sticks out. There will also be a darker thick line on selected apps and the line applies throughout all monitors. The line appears to be on any position top, bottom, left, or right with icons to the left or centered. Disabling the enhanced taskbar will resolve the issue as the default windows version has no issues.

Disabling the enhance feature beats the purpose of using this software for me. I had to record with a camera and converted to a .gif Taking a screenshot does not show the line in a screenshot for some reason.

I have which did fix the issue but left me open to another issue. I've posted on that thread but now the taskbar on autohide will now open up upon hovering over it on my primary screen.

Edit: Temporary fix of using RudeWindowFixer did the job due to Nvidia overlay.

Yup. Use 3.8, it's been trickling down the rings for a few weeks now. I guess it just hit prod.

StartAllBack 3.8 is a major update with fully recreated taskbar. It will be necessary for August 24H2/23H2 update.

It's like 70% new app. It's free update and it's buggy and it's your fault for not testing!
