apreese16 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) Is it at all possible to modernize (make more compatible for browsing) internet explorer 6? After doing a bit of research on msfn I found a few helpful things: 1. disable active scripting 2. disable TLS 3.0 and 2.0 and enable 1.0 (HELPED A TON!) Is there anything else I can possibly do? Huge thanks to those who reply. Edited January 26, 2018 by apreese16
i430VX Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 (edited) It's not exactly what you want... but once I was able to run IE8 with the IE6 theme. I'll look into how I did it and update this post. UPDATE: Meh. cant find anything. I did not install anything special to make this happen... I just found something on the computer... perhaps residue from an IE6 installation...this hard drive it was on was sadly wiped. Edited January 27, 2018 by i430VX

Use Chrome Frame; literally convert internet explorer 6 into Google Chrome.https://archive.org/details/ChromeFrameArchive01 It's a bit dated (February 1, 2014) and runs on Chrome 32.0.1700.107, but should be a big step up from IE6

So does it keep ie6 looking the same? Or does it completely change the look of everything inside the browser?

apreese16 Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 Another question: Is there something I can download that will just simply allow the browser to load CSS3? and or html5? I want to see how far I can go improving the original engine. And thanks for taking the time to reply!

apreese16 Posted January 26, 2018 Author Posted January 26, 2018 Anyway to correct this without chrome plugin?

Destro Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 (edited) why do you want to use IE6. Better question is why do you want to get a virus, trojan, botnet, or something so bad that renders the computer unusable? Edited January 27, 2018 by Destro

Im using it because I just want to see how far I can get with it... its not like I would use that as a main browser, just a fun project that I want to work on. The only reason Im doing this is just to see how much progress I can make with the old browser.
Destro Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 (edited) look for an IE6 UA switcher. That might help spoofing pages into thinking that youre not using ie6. http://www.enhanceie.com/ietoys/uapick.asp http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/essentials.asp that one says its for IE8 + but surely there is something that exists for Ie6.Insert other media Edited January 27, 2018 by Destro

pcalvert Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 Try SlimBrowser: https://www.slimbrowser.net/ SlimBrowser uses Internet Explorer's Trident rendering engine. I don't like using Internet Explorer, so instead I use SlimBrowser for the rare web sites that don't work right unless you're using some version of IE.

(to modernize IE 6, not download another browser)
