i430VX
Check the BIOS and see if USB legacy is an option. Turn it on if so. Other than that, I don't know.

bluebolt
Unfortunately, you haven't given us much information about your hardware, but "computer is too new" may mean you're running up against this problem: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/175782-ntdetect-failed-during-setup/?do=findComment&comment=1126466 In which case--if your motherboard does not have a PS/2 connector--there is no way to make your USB ports work in Windows 2000 Professional. jumper
Try disabling BIOS -> USB legacy once it is no longer needed. Try connecting the keyboard with and without a USB hub. Does a USB mouse work?
i430VX
Would an object like this be of use? https://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-32bit-Dual-PS2-PS-2-Card-PC-Keyboard-Mouse-PCI-2Ports-PS-2-without-USB-/181671723885 Or would that require a driver the Windows 2000 installation would not have at Install? tomasz86
You could also just use WINNT.SIF to make your installation process fully automatic so that no user input will be required. http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/19/ You could then use your mouse to install the USB drivers once the OS is running. That is what I use when testing Windows 2000 installation in a VM. Alternatively you could just integrate the USB drivers into your Windows source before the installation.
