Thanks for that info, Andre,

I should get some time to experiment myself soon, but if you have a moment I'd like to ask a few questions (assuming you have already experimented)...

  • Does killing that thread once after login keep it gone? Or does it come back under some situations?
  • Does it save a lot of resources to kill it?
  • Does killing it cause errors in the event logs?

it doesn't come back (maybe Ms added now a restart, I only found it out during accident in the Release Preview). When you reboot it is back.

I can't remember if there are error in the eventlog.

Google and download FxxkMetro.exe ;)

this tool kills the windows.immersiveshell.serviceprovider.dll!CImmersiveShellController::s_ImmersiveShellComponentsThreadProc thread. So you can use ProcExp and kill this and the modern is gone.

Which tool are you referring to Andre? Win7Exp4Win8 or FxxkMetro? dubbio.gif

Thank you

may be too late but... this application is not working on 8.1...

your issue is "explorer is not loading"

just hit "ctrl+shift+escape" to get taskmanager or "ctrl+alt+del" and then taskmanager

run this new task "c:\windows\explorer.exe" or "explorer"

everything should load then disable the win7 explorer with the installer

Tihiy: I understand that this program does not work with Win 8.1 but can you please update this program to provide support for 8.1 as well? This is much wanted due to the low memory usage as Metro is not loaded in memory. Request you to please think about it. Is there a way to completely disable Metro so that Metro apps are not loaded in memory? Thanks!

will Ex7forW8 working on windos8?

No, of course, it needs Windows 8:

Windows 7 explorer.exe for Windows 8 (Ex7forW8)

Long story short, i made a wrapper to Windows 7 explorer.exe to run on Windows 8. You can try it now in order to have native Windows 7 desktop experience, without immersive shell bits enabled, saving RAM. New Windows Explorer features like ribbon and file copying are present.

WHAT is the actual question?
