YouTube no longer works with Flash 7/Win95 [Solved]

I now have Flash Player 9.0.262.0 installed successfully. :D

I manually copied NPSWF32.dll and flashplayer.xpt from

the installation folder (\Windows\System\Macromed\Flash) to

the Firefox plugins folder (\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins)

then FF recognized the plugin the next time it was started.

Would it also be possible (and advisable) to patch Flash 7.0.73.0 to 9.0.262.0?

I can try, during the weekend, provided there is someone willing to test it for me, so we can find out whether it works or not. On the other hand, we know that patching to v. 10 doesn't work, since that we did try already.

Good results! Should be put in MDGx "Stickified" so it gets "stuck"...

I would dust down my Windows 95 B box and test it, certainly. :)

Thanks a million for this Flash patch. I use Windows 95 (OSR2), and was a bit disappointed that Youtube decided to stop working in Flash 7 after all this time. Now it seems to work perfectly again! At least for now. Who really knows how long their player will continue to actually be compatible with Flash 7?

I also tested this in Windows NT 3.51 and it seems to work great.

Edit: Almost forgot to mention, If I add 

@-moz-document url-prefix(http://www.youtube.com/) 
{
#watch-views {
   width: 90px;
   }
}

to my userContent.css file I can see the YouTube video descriptions again in Firefox 2 and SeaMonkey 1.1. (Otherwise they appear all squished on the side) Just thought I would share that.

Probably. Which sites do you have in mind? If I can reproduce the problem, I can test myself, so I can develop a workaround (if there is one) faster...

Please try the BBC News website, for example:

When I visit these links I see an image with the small circle moving round like it is loading, but that's all it does, I use the latest version 9 of adobe flash by the way.

The Content doesn't seem to be working, Try again later.

Anyone else that uses Firefox 2.0.0.20 and have amended the driver get the same message?

I think perhaps these links have been ceased by the bbc as I can get others to work on their site.

For anyone that might come across this post in the future, I can confirm that the spoof still works on YouTube as of 10/15/2014.

I tested this on a Gateway 2000 P5-200, mfg date April 16, 1997. It runs but is slightly choppy on the Pentium 200 MMX. Would highly recommend at least a Pentium II. Works well on a G6-400XL I own from September 10, 1998.

In order to use the spoof you need to first install a version of Flash Player 7, preferably the latest 7 0 73. The original Macromedia/Adobe link is long dead but I have it available here:

would really like to see a patched youtube plug in for firefox 2.0.0.20 that will allow watching movies higher than 240p. the patched flash player 7.0 plug for firefox 2.0.0.20 only allows up to 240p and its simply too low of a resolution. windows media player 6.4 / 7.1 seems to be out of the question, regardless of using the added codec packages, i was still not able to get mp4 videos to work, i have not tested mpeg2 yet, i think i may give it a try soon. a better alternative to all this is coverting an existing mp4 file into mpeg2 so that windows media player can at least play it in a reasonable quality instead of plain old mpeg ( although i have not tested this out yet to see if mpeg2 even works ) but its possible that mpeg4 can still be made to work. i will have to see. but yeh, it would certainly help if there was a software that can easily convert existing files such as mpeg2 to mpeg or mpeg4 to mpeg2, etc, so that whoever is using the computer, doesnt have to go through the trouble of going to one computer, converting files, and doing the same thing over and over, just to get one thing to work on windows 95. would anyone happen to know any offline software that does this sort of work?

well i just tested mp4 and mpeg2 video samples in windows media player 7.1 with the addec codecs and mp4 wouldn't even play, mpeg2 would play with sound working perfectly fine, noticably better quality sound than regular mpeg and i would be perfectly happy with mpeg2 videos, however, more than half the video was torn up with green lines, so mpeg2 was not a success either. could there be any additional plug ins / codecs / updated files that i can add to make the videos play properly? youtube sounds like crap with the 240p settings compared to the mpeg2 video sound quality that i just tested out and i thought it had to do with having a low end sound card, but apparently it was youtube's quality.
